Dankzij de eeuwenoude geschiedenis, de magie van het eiland Ortigia en de charme van de kust is Syracuse een van de meest populaire bestemmingen op Sicilië. Onze chauffeur haalt u op het tijdstip van uw voorkeur op bij uw accommodatie en brengt u naar de prachtige stad Syracuse. De eerste stop is in Neapolis, het archeologische gebied van de stad. Hier heeft u vrije tijd om het Romeinse amfitheater en het indrukwekkende en plechtige Griekse theater te bewonderen, het grootste op het eiland en een van de grootste ter wereld, volledig in de rotsen uitgehouwen. Je kunt ook het Oor van Dionysius bezoeken, een kunstmatige grot die vlak onder het Theater ligt. Het wordt zo genoemd vanwege zijn oorvorm en ook vanwege zijn akoestische eigenschappen. Daarna zet de chauffeur je af op het eiland Ortigia, het oude historische centrum van Syracuse. Hier heeft u vrije tijd om door de karakteristieke straten te wandelen en de belangrijkste monumenten te zien, zoals Aretusa Fontain, de kathedraal en het Maniace-kasteel.

De eerste stop is bij het archeologische park van Neapolis. een Unesco-werelderfgoed. Hier zijn de belangrijkste overblijfselen van de oude Griekse en Romeinse stad te zien. Het Griekse theater, het Romeinse amfitheater, de oude steengroeven, het oor van Dionysus en het altaar van Hieron zijn slechts enkele van de monumenten die in dit grote groene gebied te vinden zijn.
De Geboortekathedraal van de Heilige Maagd Maria bevindt zich in het hoogste deel van de stad en de gevel combineert barok- en rococostijl.
Bij de ingang van het eiland Ortygia wordt u begroet door de geur van allerlei soorten kruiden, chilipepers uit de Etna, amandelkoekjes, maar ook zeevruchten en verse vis. Een mooie gelegenheid om onze lokale producten te leren kennen en nieuwe Siciliaanse recepten te leren.
De overblijfselen dateren uit het begin van de 6e eeuw voor Christus en vallen vandaag de dag op in het midden van een tuin die het hele landschap nog spectaculairder maakt.
Het is gelegen in het oudste deel van Ortigia. Dit is een suggestieve waterspiegel, nog specialer gemaakt door weelderige papyrusplanten. Het is ook de plaats waar de legende van Aretusa en Alfeo zich afspeelt.
Op het Archimedes-plein staat een monumentale fontein van Giulio Moschetti, die de godin van de jacht vertegenwoordigt, een oude beschermer van Siracusa.
Je hebt vrije tijd om het prachtige eiland Ortigia te verkennen, het is de oudste wijk van de Siciliaanse stad Siracusa. Het is een soort ‘stad in de stad’ en ‘eiland binnen het eiland’ waardoor het een van de meest bijzondere plekken in Zuid-Italië is.

Andrew our driver was a lovely young man. Felt very safe with his driving. The Necropolis was very interesting and Ortega is beautiful. Make sure you take a hat and lots of water as it was very hot in both places.
A great trip. Costa was friendly, professional and informative. It was a very comfortable drive and then we got to explore ourselves and make the most of our time.
