Vertrek vanaf en rijd langs de kustlijn tot we het Corinth-kanaal bereiken waar we een korte stop maken. Het Corinth-kanaal verbindt de Golf van Corinth met de Saronische Golf in de Egeïsche Zee. Het snijdt door de smalle landengte van Korinthe en scheidt de Peloponnesos van het Griekse vasteland, waardoor het schiereiland een eiland wordt. Het wordt beschouwd als een van de grote technische prestaties van Griekenland. Het kanaal werd op zeeniveau door de landengte gegraven en heeft geen sluizen. Het is 6,4 kilometer lang en slechts 21,4 meter breed aan de basis. Het kanaal werd gebouwd van 1880 tot 1893, maar het is iets waar reders en kapiteins al ongeveer 2000 jaar van droomden voordat het werkelijkheid werd.
Mystras is UNESCO-werelderfgoed! Mystras, het ‘wonder van de Morea’, ligt in het zuidoosten van de Peloponnesos. De stad ontwikkelde zich langs de heuvel af van het fort gebouwd in 1249 door de prins van Achaia, Willem II van Villehardouin, op de top van een 620 m hoge heuvel met uitzicht op Sparta. Als een replica in miniatuur van de majestueuze vorm van Mt. Taygetos, Mystras verheft zich boven de groene vallei van Eurotas en is het best bewaarde voorbeeld van middeleeuwse ommuurde stad in de Griekse regio, is vandaag een staande spookstad die de moderne reiziger fascineert met zijn kasteel, kerken en het paleisachtige complex van de heersende Byzantijnse dynastie, getuige van zijn vroegere grootheid

A Ohio Erie Towpath Ride North This past month (October 2024), I met a long-time friend North from St. Clairsville Ohio at the Trailhead near Ernie's' Bike Shop north of Massillon Ohio. We had planned to travel to Peninsula Ohio on our E-Bikes North and stop at several of the historical Towpath Locks on the Towpath Trail. However once we arrived at Canal Fulton Ohio on the trail, we decided to stop and tour this little 'quaint town' and its noticeable historical sites. This little town is worth the time to stop and tour. If you are visiting there, take time to stop at the Sisters Century House Restaurant. Great menu and great desserts. The small shops and many sidewalks provide a pleasing way to spend an afternoon in Canal Fulton. We visited a nice bike shop, had a great lunch and visited the historical towboat/flatboat display on the Towpath route. I plan on visiting this area again soon in warmer weather. JL ps - ha, we didn't make it to Peninsula this time ... we had too much to see and do at Canal Fulton :)

Yannis was a great guide. Picked us up promptly at our hotel. Was professional, kind and informative. You could tell he enjoyed his job. When we got to the Corinth Canel, he showed us a place which told about how the Corinth Canal came about. On to the town of Sparta. We happened to be there when the Spartathon was happening and 2 people crossed the finish line. What a treat to see them both crowned with olive branch wreaths. On to Mystras to see the city palace and churches. He showed us a statue of the Byzantine Emperor. So much history. On the way back, we stopped for lunch. The Mousaka was delicious! A great day overall!

23.04.24: This was realistically the only way to get to Mistras from Athens without hiring a car and braving the Athens traffic. Our driver, Anistes, was excellent - good company, safe and sensible driving and we felt in very good hands all day. We had a quick stop to see the Corinth Canal over 3 hours at Mistras followed by a really nice reasonable lunch at family restaurant. Mistras was excellent and lived up to our expectations - all in all an excellent day.

I had high expectations for the visit to Sparta but the general opinion is that the most interesting thing is the visit to Mystras, and we had a rainy day so we couldn't enjoy the entire tour. The driver was very communicative and informative and cared about us. Find out well what can be done before making the decision
We booked transfers to and from the airport through here, as well as the private tour. We added Ancient Corinth to our trip and the added price was incredibly reasonable. The views were second to none. All of our drivers seemed like old friends that we’d known forever, instead of strangers. Every driver we had was incredibly knowledgeable and made the drive infinitely better. A huge thank you to Dionisis for making everything stress free and seamless! We have been using Athens Limo Tours-Service for close to 18 years. Dionisis (Dennis) is incredibly professional, friendly and knowledgeable. He has a great team of drivers and the vans and cars are new or like new and impeccably cleaned and maintained. This Summer of 2021 we were in Greece and he provided all our airport transfers and organized our trip to the Westin Resort in Costa Navarino. We left Athens early and along the way we stopped at the Corinth Canal and a winery in Nemea that he had recommended.
