De ruïnes van Ross Errilly Friary, gesticht in 1351, zijn naar verluidt een van de meest uitgebreide en best bewaarde Franciscaner kloosters in heel Ierland en zijn nog steeds indrukwekkend in hun omringende landschap. De prominente familie de Burgh was de belangrijkste beschermheer van het klooster en beschermde het klooster vaak om vreedzame tijden te garanderen. In 1538 vermoordden de Engelse autoriteiten echter veel broeders en zetten tweehonderd gevangen. Vanaf dit punt vond Ross Errilly zelden vrede als gevolg van de voortdurende inbeslagname door de Engelsen, totdat het ongeveer tweehonderd jaar later volledig werd verlaten.
Killary Sheep Farm in Connemara is een traditioneel werkende bergboerderij met ca. 200 ooien en lammeren lopen vrij rond in de bergen met een spectaculair landschap met uitzicht op Killary Fjord, aan de Wild Atlantic Way. Kylemore Abbey is een benedictijnenklooster en een van de meest iconische erfgoedattracties van Ierland, gelegen op een berghelling van 1000 hectare in Connemara, Co Galway, Ierland. Oorspronkelijk gebouwd in 1868 als privéwoning, werd Kylemore Castle in 1920 gekocht door een orde van benedictijnse nonnen, gesticht in België in de 16e eeuw, en werd het Kylemore Abbey. Tegenwoordig is Kylemore een plaats van spiritualiteit, erfgoed en natuurlijke schoonheid, die elk jaar duizenden bezoekers en pelgrims verwelkomt. Het is een non-profitorganisatie, waarbij toerisme en filantropie de monastieke missie ondersteunen en het rijke erfgoed van Kylemore Abbey voor de Ierse natie behouden.
Clifden is tegenwoordig een levendige en kosmopolitische stad aan de rand van Europa. Het heeft een bevolking van 2.609, maar het achterland dat dient als de administratieve en economische hoofdstad heeft bijna 10.000 inwoners. If you want to truly experience a proper tour - with legendary history and humor - look no further than this tour. We saw all the beauty of Conomera - with all the abbeys and the castles and the pubs. Bogdan was exceptional - we would hire him for every tour if we could. A true scholar and a gentleman. We know so much more about the history of this beautiful country because of this tour. The only thing better than the views and the stories was the incredible food at the restaurant that he set us up for us and that he was even kind enough to dine with our group at. From the lamb burger (life changing) to the oysters (best OF YOUR LIFE) - it was truly an awesome day. Bogdan took his time with us and tailored the tour to our liking. We had an amazing full-day tour of Connemara with our driver, DC. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and made the entire trip engaging and enjoyable. DC was fantastic with our kids, patient and fun, which made the day even more special for our family. He’s also an excellent driver, handling the narrow roads with ease and making us feel safe throughout the journey. He took us to all the must-see spots, including Kylemore Abbey, Killary Fjord, beautiful castles, and the stunning Sky Road. Each stop was breathtaking, and DC made sure we had plenty of time to explore and enjoy. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. We enjoyed so many marvelous attractions. The absolute pinnacle was the visit to the sheep farm where we watched a sheep dog move the sheep at herder commands. Then we witnessed the herder sheer a sheep. Also got to cuddle and feed a baby lamb. Wow!

Our guide, Sorin, was so knowledgeable and interesting. He really made the tour come alive by explaining everything we were seeing and making the experience so much more entertaining than a typical tour. I highly recommend this tour to see as much as possible in one day.
