Basilica Cistern werd ontworpen om het Grote Byzantijnse Paleis en de omliggende gebouwen te bedienen. Het kon tot 100.000 ton water opslaan dat via 20 km aan aquaducten werd aangevoerd vanuit een reservoir rond het Belgrad-bos. Basilica Cistern (ondergrondse cisterne, Yerebatan) is een van de beroemdste cisternen in Istanbul. Het werd gebouwd tijdens het Byzantijnse Rijk en later niet meer gebruikt door het Ottomaanse Rijk en lange tijd vergeten. Sinds het werd ontdekt en gerestaureerd. Het wordt sinds 1988 gebruikt als museum.

The tour guide was very helpful. My friend missed the tram, and the guide went with him on the tram.
The guide was very kind and offered us to visit the racetrack as well, it is a place with a lot of history and a wonderful architecture and ambiance. I felt like I was in the 007 movie walking along those walkways. I would have liked the tour to be available in Spanish.
