Ontmoet je Gids voor het Rudolfinum, een prachtig neorenaissancegebouw aan de oevers van de rivier de Moldau, voltooid in 1884 en vernoemd naar kroonprins Rudolf van Oostenrijk. Vandaag de dag heeft het een tweeledig cultureel doel als thuisbasis van de Dvořák Hall van het Tsjechisch Filharmonisch Orkest en de Galerie Rudolfinum, een tentoonstellingsruimte voor hedendaagse kunst, waardoor het een van de belangrijkste locaties voor zowel muziek als beeldende kunst van de stad is. Voor het Rudolfinum ontmoeten we elkaar op het Jan Palachplein, genoemd naar de Tsjechische student die zichzelf in 1969 in brand stak uit protest tegen de door de Sovjets geleide invasie van Tsjecho-Slowakije. Het is een rustige, aangrijpende ruimte in het centrum van de stad die ook grenst aan de Faculteit der Letteren van de Karelsuniversiteit, een mix van herinnering aan het alledaagse academische leven. Vanaf hier hebben we een iconisch uitzicht op de Praagse Burcht, en zien het vanuit het perspectief dat de meeste mensen die in de oude binnenstad van Praag wonen het al honderden jaren zouden hebben gezien. Na een korte historische achtergrond gaan we op weg naar de Karelsbrug.
Steek de verbazingwekkende Karelsbrug over : Stap op de meest iconische bezienswaardigheid van Praag, een gotische stenen brug uit 1357, in opdracht van keizer Karel IV. Als je de rivier de Moldau oversteekt, word je geflankeerd door 30 barokke beelden van heiligen en beschermheren, elk met zijn eigen legende, waaronder de beroemde bronzen plaquette van St. John van Nepomuk, waarvan wordt gezegd dat deze geluk brengt als je hem aanraakt. Uw Gids zal de rijke geschiedenis van de brug delen, van de constructie met behulp van mortel op basis van eieren (volgens de legende) tot de rol als een vitale handelsroute die de oude binnenstad van Praag met de kleine binnenstad verbindt. Geniet van een prachtig uitzicht op de Praagse Burcht die boven de daken uitsteekt, en zie straatartiesten en muzikanten bijdragen aan de levendige sfeer. Dit is een perfecte kennismaking met het roemruchte verleden van Praag voordat u doorgaat naar de Burchtwijk.
Samen betreden we het grootste oude kasteelcomplex ter wereld, dat zich uitstrekt over 70.000 vierkante meter en boven de stad uittorent. Het werd gesticht in de 9e eeuw en diende als zetel van Tsjechische koningen, Heilige Roomse keizers en vandaag de dag de president van Tsjechië. We verkennen eeuwenlange geschiedenis zoals op het kasteelterrein, en nemen de gotische grandeur van de Sint-Vituskathedraal in ons op, waarvan de torenspitsen de skyline van Praag domineren en waarvan de glas-in-loodramen een prachtig Art Nouveau-stuk van Alfons Mucha bevatten. We bezoeken het oude koninklijk paleis, de basiliek van St. George en de kleurrijke, sprookjesachtige Golden Lane, ooit de thuisbasis van kasteelwachters, goudsmeden en beroemde schrijver Franz Kafka. Uw Gids brengt de turbulente en fascinerende geschiedenis van het kasteel tot leven, van koninklijke kroningen tot de beruchte verdedigingswerken die Europese oorlogen hebben helpen ontketenen. Dit is het ware hoogtepunt van elk bezoek aan Praag.
Daal van het kasteel af naar een van de meest betoverende wijken van Praag, een prachtig bewaard gebleven wijk van barokke paleizen, kasseienlanen en verborgen tuinen verscholen onder de Kasteelheuvel. Het werd gesticht in 1257 en is een van de oudste delen van de stad. Het is grotendeels ontsnapt aan de verwoestingen van de moderne ontwikkeling, waardoor het een bijna sprookjesachtige sfeer heeft. Dwaal langs grote aristocratische woningen zoals het Wallenstein Paleis, nu de thuisbasis van de Tsjechische Senaat, en bewonder de torenhoge koepel van de Sint-Nicolaaskerk, een meesterwerk van Praagse barokarchitectuur. Je Gids zal je wijzen op charmante details die je zelf gemakkelijk kunt missen, van eigenzinnige huisborden die ooit als adres dienden tot geheime binnenplaatsen en doorgangen die eeuwenlang door de lokale bevolking werden gebruikt. Met zijn rustige pleinen, met ambassades omzoomde straten en uitzicht terug naar het kasteel, biedt Malá Strana een langzamer, romantisch contrast met de drukte van de oude stad, perfect om te genieten van de legendarische charme van Praag.

- Onze gidsen hebben het beste met je voor; terwijl de tour meestal de genoemde sites en verhalen bevat en ongeveer 2 uur duurt, kan je tour variëren, afhankelijk van wat je Gids en je groep doen; we vinden het geweldig dat elke tour zijn eigen ervaring is.
- Helaas raden wij deze tour niet aan voor rolstoelgebruikers. Ze hebben de Castle ADA niet toegankelijk gemaakt.

I took this tour with a few friends, and it was the absolute highlight of our trip to Prague. Prague Castle is truly magnificent and our guide, Pavel, made the experience unforgettable. Pavel was outstanding—friendly, kind, and an incredible storyteller. He brought centuries of history to life with fascinating stories and made every stop engaging and easy to follow. The tour was informative without ever feeling overwhelming, and we had plenty of time to explore the castle and its beautiful interiors while learning about the people and events that shaped this incredible place. Even after taking a city tour of Prague, this was the perfect addition and gave us a much deeper appreciation of the city's history and culture. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. If you're visiting Prague, this is an absolute must-do. It was, without a doubt, the best part of our trip.

I’ve joined over 20 sandemans walking tours in the past and almost always enjoyed them. Unfortunately this wasn’t one of them. A) Wrong info - Wrong instructions on Sandemans website to pre-purchase transport ticket (the website also listed the old price making it confusing to ensure I did buy the right one). Considering I rushed to pre-purchase the ticket right before the tour, it was annoying to immediately be told it’s included. B) Tour guide approach to wrong info - When I raised the info on the website, I was dismissed by the guide Lyle who simply complained about how the website is wrong and how he paid marketing fee to Sandemans. Nothing mentioned about reaching out to sandemans to ensure this is fixed for future tours. When I also tried to raise that the price listed on the website was wrong and confusing, he cut me off. I tried to explain 4 times and each time he simply cut me off and refused to let me finish a single sentence. Mind you, the tour hasn’t even begun yet so I wasn’t disrupting the tour. C) Tour guide style - The tour wasn’t the most interesting, the guide had a tendency to simply throw facts at you talking quickly as his guiding style (similar with the free walking tour with the same guide) as if quoting 1000 facts in 5 mins alone was all it took to engage a crowd and impress. I’ve attended many sandemans tours whereby the guide is able to engage, tie themes and main takeaway points and key events together in a cohesive and easy to understand manner. Unfortunately this wasn’t one of them. While the guide was helpful after the tour in directing us out of the castle area, ultimately the tour wasn’t of the standard I have come to expect from Sandemans.

It does not actually include an interior tour. Otherwise, it was interesting and fun. Our guide was helpful and knowledgeable.
We had Brandon as our tour guide and he was amazing! We learned so much about Prague's history and he was extremely knowledgeable and engaging! Highly recommended this tour to anyone that is visiting!
Disappointed in the guide. While he was very nice, he lacked energy and we found him very difficult to understand, he was Engligh speaking but with very strong accent that made it hard to understand much of what was said. Additionally beginning of the tour was stopped in close proximity to nearby fast driving traffic which also contributed to difficulty hearing/understanding. Would have liked to been able to engage and understand more.

Jan was very knowledgeable and super friendly. He made the tour a great experience. Our only disappointment was that when we booked, entry fee to the church was included but when we got there, were told it was an error and should not have been included so we did not get to enter the church. Very disappointed in the tour company but NOT Jan’s fault.
David a total freak! It took us to the Castle being a very large group, with a lot of order and attention, but above all giving us a lot of information, with luxury of details and stories that really made the experience very valuable. Thank you David!!!
