De botanische tuin, voorheen bekend als de botanische tuin Sir Seewoosagur, is een van de meest bezochte attracties op Mauritius. De tuin is gelegen in de nabijheid van Port-Louis, in de wijk Pamplemousses. De botanische tuin werd aanvankelijk bijna 300 jaar geleden geopend als een privétuin door de Franse gouverneur van Mauritius en werd later de Nationale Botanische Tuin van Mauritius. De botanische tuin strekt zich uit over eindeloze hectaren land en het kan meer dan een week duren om de hele tuin te bedekken. Het is bevolkt met meer dan 650 soorten planten waaronder de beroemde baobabs, de Palmier Bouteille, de onontkoombare reuzenwaterlelies, tientallen geneeskrachtige planten, een grote kruidentuin en nog veel meer. Een van de belangrijkste attracties van de botanische tuin zijn de 85 verschillende soorten palmbomen die uit verschillende hoeken van de wereld zijn meegebracht. Ook andere inheemse plantensoorten worden hier tentoongesteld.
Port Louis, de kosmopolitische hoofdstad van Mauritius, werd in 1735 gesticht door de Franse gouverneur en pionier Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais. Port Louis ligt aan de noordwestkust en is de administratieve en zakelijke hoofdstad van het eiland. De stad bruist van de activiteiten gedurende de dag en is vol met culturele en historische schatten die niet gemist mogen worden. Voorbij de centrale markt, die een centraal punt is voor degenen die zich dicht bij de ziel van Mauritius willen voelen, zijn veel historische bezienswaardigheden, waaronder de Champ de Mars - de oudste renbaan op het zuidelijk halfrond.
Niet beschikbaar op zaterdag na 12.00 uur, op zon- en feestdagen. Het historische citadelfort ligt ongeveer 100 meter hoog op de heuvel van Petite Montague en is een van de historische bezienswaardigheden van Mauritius geworden. Het fort, ook wel bekend als het Adelaide Fort (genoemd naar de vrouw van Willem II, toen de Britten land in Port Louis bezaten), biedt een prachtig uitzicht over de hele stad Port Louis en over de haven. Het fort werd in het begin van de 19e eeuw gebouwd door kolonel Cunningham als een poging om het Britse leger te beschermen tegen de vijand. Het is gebouwd in Moorse stijl, compleet met hoefijzerbogen. Het fort is gebouwd met grote rechthoekige blokken. Het fort is nu omgebouwd tot een nationaal monument en wordt omringd door het Caudan Water Front en de uitgestrekte Indische Oceaan.

We spent our holiday as a family of five at the Beachcomber Cannoniere Mauritius. We booked for this excursion Rajesh Seewoopaul Rajesh.991@hotmail.com Spoke a great English, very informative. Good tour , made great by our guide/driver veet , who was very new to role but took us to extra sites . Poor fella had an accident , which was not his fault , on way back , which meant we didn’t get back until much later than planned . Just hope he gets it all sorted
The Botanical Garden was a super experience, highly recommended to stay 2 hours at least. Unfortunately Fort Adelaide was closed due to a public holiday as well es the Blue Penny Museum. Our Guide, Hansley brought us to a tea museum which was not on the program and was really interesting.

This tour was OK. I would have liked a slower walk-through umbrella sq and Port Louis so I could take pictures. Markets were interesting. Recommend paying the extra to have a tour guide in the botanical gardens. Lunch was ok. 'Pin Location' means 'address' not that the tour guide used it.

Fantastic day sightseeing, our driver and guide, Vinoo, was very knowledgeable and friendly. He went above and beyond to ensure that we got the most out of the day and couldn’t recommend him highly enough! He showed us around the capital, and allowed us time to do some shopping in the local and craft markets. The views from Fort Adelaide were breathtaking across the capital towards the Indian Ocean. The Botanical Gardens were very pretty with the added bonus of giant tortoises. We also had the lunch option which was delicious.
We didn't do this full day tour but we went to the Botanical Gardens at Pamplemousses on our own. Very disappointing I'm afraid. A general down at heel feel to the place. Plants and trees either not labelled or inadequately. The fine colonial house is closed and there are no proper facilities for visitors. Even the tortoises look depressed and kept in poor conditions compared to the La Vanille reserve in the south of the island.

A morning to see a small part of the island . The Botanical gardens were good to see and worth getting a guide otherwise you would miss too much . We then went onto visit the Port Louis - the fort , local market and waterfront . Our guide was informative and friendly .
