Pompeii is onmiskenbaar de belangrijkste archeologische vindplaats ter wereld. Een hele stad perfect bewaard gebleven, net zoals het was in 79 na Christus, toen een enorme uitbarsting van de nabijgelegen vulkaan de Vesuvius het begroef onder een diepe laag as en lapilli. Pompeii is heel anders dan elke andere archeologische vindplaats ter wereld. Er zijn oude ruïnes in Rome, Griekenland, Egypte, Midden-Amerika en andere prachtige plekken op de planeet, maar in geen van deze behalve Pompeii kun je nog door de originele oude straten lopen en ze zo levendig vinden als toen. Je kunt in dezelfde huizen lopen waar mensen woonden, in dezelfde tempels waar ze baden en op dezelfde plaatsen zijn waar ze werkten en waar ze plezier hadden. Je kunt zelfs nog de sporen van hun rijtuigen zien achtergelaten op het wegdek; de leidingen waar het drinkwater in liep; en last but not least, de "versteende" lichamen van de slachtoffers van de uitbarsting.

We bezoeken de belangrijkste openbare gebouwen (theaters, tempels, thermale baden en meer) en vestigen uw aandacht op enkele van de meest traditionele Romeinse winkels zoals de thermopolia - voorouder van de moderne fastfoodrestaurants - en de pistrinum - het Romeinse equivalent van een bakkerij. De stad Pompeii staat ook bekend om de pracht van haar woningen, waarvan de namen in de hele wereld bekend zijn: het Huis van Menander, het Huis van de Faun, het Huis van de Vettii, het Huis van Caecilius Iucundus en vele meer. We zullen in een aantal van die fantastische woningen zijn en ook door de "Via dell'Abbondanza" (de hoofdstraat), het Forum (het belangrijkste stadsplein) en de beroemde "rosse buurt" en zijn suggestieve muurschilderingen lopen. Ten slotte zal speciale aandacht worden besteed aan de arme slachtoffers van de uitbarsting, die eruitzien als versteende lichamen.

Having booked previously we booked the POMPEII trip and once again received a fantastic tour with Francesco, a different tour guide, but again a fantastic overview of the POMPEII site and the Vesuvius eruption. Personally for me the small group tour or in this case we were lucky to have a private tour is essential, the knowledge and more importantly where to go is a must have - the site is massive and technically you could wander around looking at a load of "old bricks" and get lost - the guided tour therefore a must IMO and with this tour company you will get an excellent tour of the sites.

It was a bit disappointed that the tour operator texted me 2 days before the tour predict no other participants for our tour and advised us to switch to a private tour with another additional payment of $60. Including requirement to buy our own entry truckers, it costed us much more than planned to visited the attraction “Pompeii Ruins”.
Dear visitor, it’s specified in the tour description that the tour is canceled if the minimum number of participants has not been met as well as it specified that the entry tickets are not included. We texted you only 2 days before the tour to wait as much as possible for new bookings, and we believe that 2 days are long enough to let you arrange the tour with a different tour operator if our tour is canceled. Moreover, we proposed a solution and you accepted, a full refund would have been much easier and cheaper for us and, honestly, it's now sad to hear that this solution didn't make you happy. We apologize if you don't consider your experience with us worthy of a 5-star review, but we are sure it’s due to misunderstanding.
Francesco did a wonderful job. He made an amazing place even more interesting with his explanations of the sights. He had an informed answer for every question we had. Not to mention, he gave us great advice about other places to visit in the area. I will choose his services every time I bring a group to the area.
