Ervaar uw eigen 'mars van de pinguïns' op het eiland Magdalena tijdens een ochtendtour per boot vanuit Punta Arenas. Na een rondvaart door de Straat Magellaan komt u aan in dit beschermde natuurgebied, waar u de duizenden Magellaanse pinguïns kunt aanschouwen die druk bezig zijn op het kiezelterrein dat dient als hun broedplaats. Volg uw gids over een omheind pad naar een vuurtoren, waar u meer leert over het ecosysteem van het eiland. Indien het weer het toelaat, vaart u langs Isla Marta om zeeleeuwen en zeeolifanten te observeren.

Kleed je warm aan en bereid je voor op deze tour, die begint op een ontmoetingspunt in Punta Arenas en vervolgens met de rest van de groep naar de pier reist. Vergeet niet dat je om 06:30 uur op het ontmoetingspunt in José Nogueira # 1255, Punta Arenas moet zijn. Klim aan boord van een grote motorboot en ga ongeveer 40 minuten naar het noorden in de Straat van Magellan. Als je geluk hebt, kun je een glimp opvangen van pandadolfijnen die uit het woelige grijze water springen.
Kom aan op het kleine en rotsachtige eiland Magdalena, ook wel Los Pinguinos Natural Monument genoemd, een beschermd natuurreservaat en park sinds 1982 en een broedplaats voor Magelhaense pinguïns. Zelfs voordat de boot aanmeert, zie je duizenden pinguïns de oevers verdringen en hun gekrijs horen. In de zomer bezetten ongeveer 120.000 pinguïns het eiland. Stap uit en breng hier ongeveer een uur door met uw gids, terwijl u het aangewezen pad volgt dat is afgeboord voor bezoekers. Deze nieuwsgierige vogels, ongeveer 61 cm lang, kruisen je pad en kunnen je naderen, maar je wordt geïnstrueerd om ze niet aan te raken of te voeren. Aan weerszijden van het pad, zie honderden holen in de grond, ongeveer een voet (30 cm) in diameter, elk bevolkt door een paar pinguïns. Kijk hoe pinguïns in en uit de gaten springen, waar eieren worden gelegd, en anderen nieuwe holen uitgraven door met hun voeten met zwemvliezen hopen aarde opzij te gooien. Je gids kan ook wijzen op aalscholvers en Andes-meeuwen op het eiland. Bereik het hoogste punt van het eiland en betreed een vuurtoren, met huizen die de habitat van de pinguïns en broedcycli, de geschiedenis van de Straat en de rijke ecosystemen van nabijgelegen eilanden toelichten.
Warm vervolgens op met koffie en snack op koekjes (meegeleverd) voordat u het eiland verlaat. Op de terugweg, als het weer het toelaat, kan uw kapitein Isla Marta passeren, waar u foto's van zeeleeuwen en zeeolifanten kunt maken die op de rotspartij loungen.
Na een prachtige ochtend met pinguïns, eindigt uw tour in Punta Arenas op hetzelfde ontmoetingspunt in de ochtend (José Nogueira # 1255, Punta Arenas).

Great tour from start to finish. Boat ride out to the island was smooth, guide was very informative. After we reached the island we had plenty of time to observe the penguins and other native birds.

We are on a Holland America cruise but this trip was not available from the ship tour offers. Booked thru aviator but run thru Solo Expeditions in Punta Arenas. They were aware of our time in port and easily got us back to the ship in time. Checking process was chaotic- they wouldn’t check k anyone in until start time of tour and then it was a bit unorganized. Once that was figured out, we were on buses and on our way to the boat that took us out to the island. Weather was perfect. Team on the boat were wonderful - took good care of us. Walk thru the island was wonderful - penguins were ready to show up for us! On the ride back we stopped to see the sea lions. Worth the trip, be patient with the check in process…

Watch penguins up close. The walk on the island is a walking tour including a lighthouse. We could observe penguins, seagull geese and an ibis up close. The guide of Joselin was super bilingual, the crew on the catamaran very nice and attentive. We drove even further to a sea lion colony. We had enough time to watch the animals.

We really enjoyed this tour! It was very organized and punctual. They were accommodating and allowed us to leave our luggage at the office meeting point. We took a bus from the office to the dock, and then a 35 minute boat ride to Isla Magdalena (we did stop along the way to watch a whale!). We then got off the boat and spent an hour walking on the island. Be prepared for cold, very windy conditions. The boat cabin is warm and comfortable, but prepared to get wet if you want to stand outside on the boat (life jacket required). They gave us hot drinks and cookies on the ride back which was a nice touch to warm up our hands! Great for individuals, groups of friends, and families. FYI there are no stops for souvenir shopping, but there are multiple shops near the office meeting point in Punta Arenas that you can go to after.

Spectacular and unmissable, I liked that there are many rules to protect animals. There are many penguins and other birds, these super close to them. The guides are very friendly and know the subject well. The boat is small and very safe, they know the deck ready to admire the landscape of the Magellanic canal
