Deze privé begeleide ervaring is uniek voor de bezoekers van het noorden van Griekenland, die geïnteresseerd zijn om te zien en te horen waar het christendom allemaal begon in Europa en de rest van de wereld. Het is een must-see attractie wanneer u reist in de Trappen van St. Paul. Philippi site is ook opgenomen in de UNESCO Werelderfgoedlijst en opgravingen zijn nog steeds aan de gang in deze uitgestrekte site. Het oude theater van Philippi wordt in de zomer gebruikt voor de zomer Philippi festival toneelstukken en concerten vandaag. De doopkapel van St. Lydia & St. Paul bij dezelfde waterstroom waar Lydia, de eerste Christen van Europa werd gedoopt, is een fantastische kapel bedekt met mozaïeken en muurschilderingen die ons het verhaal vertellen, zoals het wordt gevonden in de Apostelen 'Act 16 van de Bijbel. Na een korte lunchpauze bij Philippi, is er een add-on optie om vooraf te boeken op aanvraag: Rijd naar een bekroonde wijnmakerij voor een rondleiding & proeverij tegen een meerprijs voor 1,5 uur extra.

Je wordt rondgeleid door de oude stad Philippi, met overblijfselen uit alle periodes van zijn geschiedenis, incl. oude Griekse, Romeinse en vroeg-christelijke periode. Philippi is een van de grootste opgravingen van Griekenland en een van de belangrijkste voor christenen over de hele wereld vanwege zijn religieuze band met St. Paul, die hier in het jaar 49 AD predikte.
Deze prachtige kapel gewijd aan St. Lydia - de eerste christen gedoopt door St. Paul in heel Europa - en aan St. Paul zelf bevindt zich direct naast de stroom Angitis, bekend om St. Paul's doopingen uit de Romeinse tijd Filippenzen. Het wordt tegenwoordig gebruikt voor de doop van baby's en heeft een unieke mozaïek- en marmerdecoratie.

Ophaallocaties en -tijden
Houd er rekening mee dat privévervoer van Thessaloniki stad of ergens anders waar we het eens zijn met een professionele chauffeur en voertuig niet is inbegrepen in de getoonde gidsprijs. Het wordt extra betaald en het hangt af van het aantal deelnemers en de grootte van het voertuig dat nodig is voor deze privétour. Verder contact met de gids over het opstappunt en extra transportkosten is vereist voordat de boeking wordt bevestigd. De voorgestelde starttijd van de tour is tussen 8.30 en 9.30 uur vanaf Thessaloniki, maar kan altijd later zijn als u dat wenst. Houd er rekening mee dat de tourduur van 7 uur van / naar Thessaloniki is. In geval van ontscheping van een cruiseschip van/naar de haven van Kavala duurt de tour inclusief bezoeken aan dezelfde locaties 4,5 uur. De openingstijden van de Philippi-site en St. Lydia's Baptistery zijn de hele dag tot 20.00 uur tijdens het seizoen van april tot oktober, behalve op dinsdag.

Ms. Efi was fantastic. She commanded the historical knowledge, and was extremely insightful, not only from Thessaloniki (urban history and culture within the city), but also across the drive from Thess to Kavala, Lydia, and Philippi. Highly recommend this tour. Although Philippi is not as sprawling (excavated as much) as Ephesus, I would imagine it is only 10% uncovered. St. Paul's prison is reachable and well marked, preserved, and maintained. We had lunch there, at a small eatery on the adjacent driveway to the UNESCO Philippi site. A wonderful breeze, lush grassy (shaded) restful location, after slow stroll thru the compound for about an hour (take water on your walk !!). Ensure you visit "Lydia" only 4 mins from Philippi - Lydia is the first person (a woman) baptized in the Western Hemisphere by St. Paul. A beautify Cathedral (St. Lydia), and a beautiful stream in the rear, where she was baptized - a great fascinating place to see. Kavala is a cool town, with a beautiful waterfront - an important strategic and historical port city in many historical contexts... Thank you Ms. Efi for a fantastic journey to the Eastern Edge of Macedonia, walking in St. Paul's footsteps. Highly recommend!! Thank you Ms. Efi. We will be back!

Our trip was incredible! Efi was our tour guide and our driver was Dimitris. Efi made our day with her knowledge, insider/local info and her friendliness. We were able to see everything that we wanted to and shared a dinner at the best local seaside. We tried new foods too. Our emphasis was Paul's time in Philippi and we had the BEST guide to fulfil our dream. We are thankful for the extra attention we received! Efi. was our tour guide and she did a fantastic job explaining where we were going and what we were seeing! We went from Thessaloniki to Philippi and the countryside was beautiful! Our cruise line wasn’t clear how long we would be there until we boarded the boat but she kept in contact with us and was very helpful to insure we could see what we wanted to while there! She also took us to Kavala where we experienced local food near the ocean! I would highly recommend!
