Besmettelijke uitbraken hebben New Orleans eeuwenlang geteisterd, en als je een beetje nieuwsgierig bent naar de vreemde geschiedenis van onze stad, wil je niet verder kijken dan onze relatie met ziekte. We nemen je mee op een historische en vreemde rondleiding door de erbarmelijke toestanden van massale ziekte die New Orleans is tegengekomen. Ook zullen we inspirerende verhalen vertellen over het omgaan met smerige en vuile omstandigheden. Loop met ons mee om te ontdekken hoe epidemieën zoals gele koorts, cholera en meer onze inwoners hebben besmet en hoe onze veerkrachtige stad zich heeft hersteld. We zullen het hebben over vreemde medische praktijken van lang geleden, inclusief hoe voodoo en religie een rol speelden bij het proberen het 'onbedwingbare' in bedwang te houden. Inbegrepen in de tour is een wandeling door de Franse wijk om te zien waar het allemaal ging.

As a public health and history nerd I was very much looking forward to this experience but after taking it I don't think you need to be a nerd to enjoy it! Dalvin is very knowledgeable and engaging. I happened to be the only person signed up that day and he was very kind about it. I learned a lot and had a great time.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Pestilence, Pandemic and Plaque tour during our recent trip to NOLA! My son has an interest in public health and epidemiology, and this was the tour he was really excited about. Dalvin was our tour guide and he was amazing! We did the Plague Tour with Dalvin. He was phenomenal! He knew so much about the history of the area. He was a great communicator that made it so informative and entertaining. I was lucky enough to end up with a 1:1 tour experience. It was perfectly paced and informative. I work in outbreak response and love medical history - and I learned a lot of new things! This is a must do tour for my fellow nerds. Mikko showed me a trash can!
Mikko is extremely knowledgeable about the topic and New Orleans in general. Be prepared for a rapier wit and wonderful humor to be a tasty side dish to the info imparted. We saw a good smattering of the French Quarter along the way. While the Pharmaceutical Museum was closed on the day of our tour, don’t pass up this gem. Of all the Viator tours I’ve been on (all over the world), Mikko was by far the best tour guide. And, of course, the view of the in-ground garbage is not to be missed!
