Deze tour zal je inderdaad twee van de meest charmante hilltowns van Midden-Italië laten zien. U zult ook genieten van fresco's uit de 14e eeuw en schilderijen uit Reanaissance. Het zal zijn om terug te gaan naar het verleden!

Perugia, de regionale hoofdstad, is een oude stad in het centrale noorden van Umbrië. Het historische centrum is gebouwd op de hoge heuvels langs de rechteroever van de rivier de Tiber. We ontmoeten elkaar en beginnen aan onze wandeltocht door Perugia om de oude Romeinse ruïnes te verkennen. Tijdens onze tour ervaart u ook de sfeer van een middeleeuwse Italiaanse hilltown door plaatselijke handwerkwinkels te bezoeken en een wandeling te maken door de typische kleine steegjes. Na een lunchpauze (niet inbegrepen) gaan we naar Assisi. De focus van onze tour daar zal de basiliek van Sint Franciscus zijn met zijn prachtige fresco's van Giotto (13e - 14e eeuw), een van de belangrijkste kunstenaars van Italië in de Middeleeuwen.
Het bovenste marmeren bassin heeft twaalf zijden, verdeeld in vierentwintig gladde panelen van roze Assisi-steen. Elke kamer is gescheiden door een gelijk aantal witte Carrara-marmeren beeldjes op richels tussen de panelen. Sommige figuren vertegenwoordigen personages uit de geschiedenis van de stad en legendes, terwijl andere symbolisch zijn.
De Rocca Paolina, of het Paolina-fort, ligt in het historische centrum van Perugia en men kan via een deur in Porta Marzia of het roltrapsysteem dat Piazza Italia met Piazza Partigiani verbindt, binnengaan.
De kathedraal van St. Lawrence bevindt zich in het historische centrum van Perugia op Piazza IV Novembre, de zuidelijke gevel tegenover het plein. Een vroege kerk gewijd aan de proto-martelaar Lawrence, die stierf in Rome in 258, werd hier gebouwd in de 9e eeuw op de top van het oude Etruskisch-Romeinse forum van de stad. Er is geen spoor van het eerste gebouw.
De Etruskische monumentale boog (III B.C.), noordgericht, behoort tot de eerste stadsmuren. Met zijn 11 m. hoog en vanwege zijn uitstekende staat van preservatino, wordt het beschouwd als de meest indrukwekkende van alle oude Etruria.
De Basiliek van Sint-Clara is een kerk die is gewijd aan en bevat de overblijfselen van Sint-Clara van Assisi, een volgeling van Sint-Franciscus van Assisi en oprichter van de Orde van Arme Vrouwen, tegenwoordig bekend als de Orde van Sint-Clara.
De tempel van Minerva is een oud Romeins gebouw. Het herbergt momenteel een kerk, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, gebouwd in 1539 en gerenoveerd in barokstijl in de 17e eeuw. De tempel werd gebouwd in de 1e eeuw naar de wil van Gnaeus Caesius en Titus Caesius Priscus, die twee van de quattuorviri van de stad waren en ook de bouw financierden.

- Let op: op zondagen, grote katholieke feestdagen en nationale feestdagen zijn rondleidingen in de basiliek van St. Franciscus verboden. Je gids zal je de kerk van buiten uitleggen, en je zult alleen binnengaan in stilte.

Great day! It was ungodly hot but our tour guide kept us in the shade as much as possible. She was a great storyteller but also a master of Logistics. She arranged a lovely lunch as well as transportation which allowed us to be dropped off at the top of Assisi (which is on a very steep hill) and picked up later at the bottom. I give her my highest recommendation!
The day was cold, windy, and damp, but the warmth of our guide Barbara and our driver cut through all that and made it a truly memorable visit. Barbara’s knowledge of art and history was amazing. There is a lot of walking and steps but she made allowances and accommodated our pace. We missed nothing. At the end of the day we felt we were saying goodbye to an old friend that we hope will see again soon. She made the tour a great personal experience, so much more than just visiting historical and religious monuments.
This tour was a great way to see the best of Perugia and Assisi in a day. 1st part was a walking tour of Perugia hosted by Pepe. Great views of the city, Etruscan walls, old fort ruins as well as history of Perugia and Italy. Also some excellent tips on a sunset bar and pizza by slice. Perugia is a wonderful and underrated city. 2nd part we were collected by a driver and taken to Assisi. Met by expert guide and taken through this fascinating world heritage site. A must see if you are in the region. All up one of the best private tours you can do in Italy.

Our guide, Werner, was truly a local, with earlier European background. His knowledge of history and art was amongst the best of any guide we have used anywhere. And his love of Assisi and St. Francis was very obvious. We also liked that he was flexible in scheduling, and open to expanding discussions.

Francesca made our two city day tour very memorable. She brilliantly covered a huge amount of artistic social and cultural history across all of the ages of Etruscan, Roman, medieval and Renaissance history. She kept us in the shade when it got too hot and went at my slower pace when it was needed, and very kindly organised for us to take the tour of Basilica of San Francesco D’assisi from the top down so I didn’t need to walk the many steps going up!
