PCF 816 is een tastbare herinnering aan de service en toewijding van zoveel Swift Boat-zeilers en stelt bezoekers in staat om beter te begrijpen wat ze hebben opgeofferd. De Swift Boat Sailors Association bracht de PCF 816 Swift Boat naar het Maritiem Museum van San Diego om te worden gerestaureerd en geëxploiteerd in de Baai van San Diego. Museumbezoekers kunnen nu het geluid en de kloppende trillingen ervaren van twee V12-diesels die 980 pk leveren voor snelle runs door de baai, terwijl gepensioneerde Swift Boat Sailors en docenten vertellen hoe het was om een bemanningslid in Vietnam te zijn, dienend als kwartiermeester, Gunner's Mate, Engineman, Radarman, Bootsman of Skipper. De marine gebruikte ze voor het eerst op kustpatrouilles als onderdeel van Operatie Market Time om zeevoorraden op weg naar de Vietcong en het Noord-Vietnamese leger in Zuid-Vietnam te verbieden. Later voeren de boten de rivieren en kanalen van de Mekong Delta en het schiereiland Ca Mau in om speciale operaties uit te voeren.

Couldn’t hear the guide. Due to the noise of the boat there should be some type of headset to hear the history and facts presented on the tour. Otherwise it was an expensive boat ride.

The San Diego Maritime Museum conducts a tour around the San Diego Harbor listening to historical commentary on the Vietnam War river patrol boat. The shallow draft allows you to approach relatively close compared to a large pleasure boat, and on the sea surface where there are no other ships or obstacles around, you can increase the speed to 25 knots and experience the combat speed of bygone days. I wanted to get on the day before I left, but it was full and I wanted to give up, and the museum staff said, "I'll leave your stuff here."

We were going to catch a ferry as a way of seeing the bay, but are so glad that we went on the Swift Boat tour instead. We saw an awesome array of US Naval Boats- but best of all was the narration from the Veteran Swift Boat guides. Incredibly informative. A wonderful 2 hours on the water.

We went for a "few hours" and ended up spending all day! These ships were incredibly well preserved. It was neat to be able to see them all up close. We booked the harbor cruise with our ticket, and enjoyed that, as well.

This was the most amazing thing we did on our fantastic trip. Great value, totally run by volunteers who are passionate about their job and the US Navy. You not only get a history tour, but a spectacular harbour cruise with a little speed boat riding thrown in. Honesty, don't miss it :)
