We gaan over de Lake Arenal Dam. Arenal Lake is een adembenemend kunstmatig meer gelegen in het noorden van Costa Rica, aan de voet van de iconische Arenal vulkaan. Met een oppervlakte van ongeveer 85 vierkante kilometer is het het grootste meer van het land en een cruciale bron van waterkracht, die bijna 70% van de hernieuwbare energie van Costa Rica levert. Was definitely a lot of fun and we had a great time. I don’t necessarily agree with the description that this tour is beginner friendly or kid friendly. These horses trekked up and down very steep areas and upstream in the river, not just across. Had my partner and I not both had experience on horses I definitely would have been intimidated. Regardless, we really enjoyed and would recommend to anyone looking for an adventure.

I'm writing review today to acknowledge the welfare conditions of the horses. Several things caught my attention and concerned me deeply. If you have any knowledge of the safety required for horses on trails then you would know that this trails here are treacherous for the horses the entire time. These trails include extremely deep mud as well as large uneven rocks. My horse struggled to find foot placement and slipped sometimes. I felt awful leaving this establishment knowing that someone has allowed this to happen. Something you should know is that Paco's horseback is located in mistico Park on private property. Therefore Paco does have the ability to maintain these trails for the safety of the horses. I will be proceeding to report these conditions to SENASA a local welfare organization that should be notified about this immediately. It broke my heart to realize that these horses have to work extremely hard and put themselves in danger for the entertainment of the riders. I regret booking this trip and hope that these horses will get the treatment that they deserve in the future. These trails risk the horses bruising their hooves and potentially spraining their ankles. It does not require an expert to see this if you are on the trail. I never been on a trail with horses with this type of terrain seeing the horses exhausted, panting and carefully trying to find their foot placement the entire time. Please do better for these animals. Additionally when I arrived I had noticed a horse had been bitten by another horse and was bleeding. I notified Paco for knowing if he should separate the horses. He smiled and said that he was a new horse and clearly didn't think much of it. Please keep all this in mind before booking the trip, these animals are not being well taken care of. Finding new activity or find out if the conditions are safe for the animals first.

The trails we use are natural rainforest trails, and the terrain changes throughout the year, especially during the rainy season. Our horses are specifically selected and trained for this environment and are experienced navigating these conditions safely. We continuously monitor and maintain the sections of the trail that can be improved while preserving the natural surroundings. Regarding the horse you mentioned, we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Small superficial bites or scratches can occasionally occur when horses establish their social hierarchy, especially when introducing a new horse to the group. Even so, every injury, no matter how minor, is cleaned, monitored, and treated appropriately by our team. We respect your perspective and understand that witnessing horses carefully navigating natural terrain can be concerning if you're unfamiliar with how they move in these environments. However, we take any feedback related to animal welfare very seriously and are always looking for ways to improve. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. Pacos horses was an amazing experience. First, the horses are well taken care of and treated with respect! That means so much to me. I was a walk in and was able to join a tour within two hours. The tour and trail far exceeding my expectations with a river trot, and multiple views of the volcano. Great tour!

Pacos horses was an incredible experience! The guide was amazing and offered to take photos for everyone while we were riding which was great. The horses were absolutely beautiful and the views were also gorgeous! Towards the end , we stopped and they gave us some water and fresh pineapple and watermelon while having a view of the volcano! Definitely recommended this experience!

Had such a great time, everyone was so helpful. I was really scared since it was my first time but they tell you what to do and how to slow down the horse.

Did this experience 3rd week of May 2026. There was suppose to be a couple during my time slot, but it turns out I was the only one who showed up so I unexpectedly got the vip solo treatment! Which was very much welcomed because I did NOT know how to handle a horse at all! The horse I was originally riding on at the start got a little bit agitated due to a fly that wouldn't leave us alone. The guide then switched my horse with his so that I can have a chill horse again, which was much appreciated. I had to watch a intro video on how to ride the horse - pretty straight forward. But that really goes out the window when you're riding the horse in real life for the first time. The guide took me on a trail that went through jungle-like environment, through a stream/river, and through plains with a fantastic view of the volcano. In the middle of all that was a fruit break with delicious pineapple, watermelon and water. It was a wonderful experience. Highly recommend you wear shoes that secure to your feet so it doesn't slip off stirrup.
