De vulkaan Pacaya is een van de vele (actieve) plaatsen rond Antigua, de voormalige hoofdstad van Guatemala, en misschien wel de meest toegankelijke. De laatste grote uitbarsting van de Pacaya-vulkaan was in 2010. Tot 2016 was het eigenlijk mogelijk om lava van dichtbij te zien tijdens de wandeling - verschillende reisorganisaties namen verschillende routes. Tijdens zonsondergangwandelingen kon de vulkaan, zodra het een beetje donker werd, rook en lava gooien.

Reizigers worden opgehaald bij hun hotel en per minibus naar het Pacaya Volcano National Park vervoerd. De paden zijn in goede staat, maar het is steil totdat je Pacaya bereikt op een baan van 3,7 kilometer. Terwijl het stijgt, zal het door bossen, landbouwgrond en lava gaan. Je loopt over vuil en losse assen, dus draag stevige schoenen. Op de top kunt u genieten van een prachtig uitzicht op de fumarolen, die mogelijk as, rotsen of lava gooien. Houd uw camera gereed om de uitbarstingen vast te leggen, om de veiligheid te handhaven bevindt u zich op een veilige afstand en zonder gevaar. Tijdens deze tour heb je ook een prachtig uitzicht op de omgeving.

This was a great hike....not too difficult and too time consuming but still very rewarding. David was a great guide....the vistas and the satisfaction are totally worth it

Get ready to hike. I do not think this is a beginner’s friendly hike, more moderate- advanced. They have gourdes that you can ride up the mountain but they are pretty overpriced so be sure to carry extra cash if you cannot complete the hike. (Mind you I actually work out and it was difficult). Great experience overall, but beware of physicality required.
We greatly appreciate your opinion, although you mention things that ARE NOT UNDER OUR CONTROL, such as the price charged for the horses (as they are not ours). As for the level of difficulty you experienced when hiking up the volcano, even children climb this volcano. We always appreciate your comments, Hector
Be prepared to hike up or take a horse. I decided to hike. Amazing experience and seeing the volcano up and being able to sit on volcano rock and admire the scene down below was a amazing. The small group I was with and or your guide was absolutely amazing. The volcano hike turned strangers friends.

This was a perfect hike for me the altitude got to me and was able to get on a horse and get to the top. Did the hike down it was amazing. It was a great way to celebrate turning 50

I had a great time at Volcan Pacaya. The guide Mynor Peralta was very knowledgeable and our hike up to the top was nice and fun. He even practiced speaking Spanish with me. There were horses available to rent, but I didn’t feel the need for it and just walked up. The view at the top is amazing. Oh, and he volunteered to take some Instagram worthy pictures, total win.

What a wonderful experience it was! Wow! It was so magical to do a horseback riding all the way to the top of the volcano and enjoying breathtaking views of the mountains and volcanoes!! This trip is a must!!
