This was my third, final visit to the ranch and Sacsayhuaman just before flying back to the UK in August 2025. I requested the same Peruvian Paso horse for my farewell ride as I had before (an incredibly well-natured horse), and the family was happy to oblige. When it looked like I was the only person with a booking for the day, I received a message offering a solo ride for an extra cost or cancellation. I can't remember how much that was, but it was very reasonable. In the end, an additional rider was booked for the day. We were both reasonably good riders, so we could go fast. I had already seen the Temple of the Moon, so our guide and the muleteer agreed to take us to a different site. I appreciated the flexibility and opportunity to say goodbye to the national park, the family and the horses. At the time, I did not think I would be returning to Peru; it was not planned, nor was I planning to return to riding horses. It is now nine months since I took the third and final ride with the family. Due to the wonderful experiences I had at this ranch, I returned to horse riding and feel comfortable riding a variety of horses, including a 17-hand sports horse. In addition, I am flying back to Cusco in September, with 11 days assigned for horse riding, of which 6 will be spent back at the family ranch exploring their full-day rides :) :)
My first experience was excellent, therefore I came back and rode a bit more with the family. This time, we were a group of three, again accompanied by a skilled muleteer and a well-informed guide. The level of horsemanship and the horses remained first-class. I asked for a more padded saddle than the one I had on the previous ride. To my surprise, not only was I provided with a very comfortable saddle, but I was also given a wonderful Peruvian Paso horse. This time we went to the Devil's Balcony and had the opportunity to canter. In addition, we were also able to engage with the local community, which was wonderful. My first experience with the ranch was excellent, the second even better. So much so that I booked another ride after my return from Apu Ausengate couple of weeks later.
Lovely local family-run business. Excellent horsemanship displayed by the team members. Horses were well kept and excellently behaved. I was a little nervous as I had not ridden for approximately twenty years. I was assigned a lively, easily manageable horse suited to my riding skills. We were quite a large group. Well managed by the guide and the muleteer. All information shared about Sacsayhuaman was accurate. Depending on the riding skills of individual riders, we were given the opportunity for trot and canter. Overall, fantastic experience.
Lovely half day trip! Holger was a fantastic host — we spent several hours riding around the hills near Saqsayhuaman and visited a number of new excavations (Holger is from the area plus an architect so he was an excellent guide). Speed of the ride depends on your experience / comfort level, you could do the whole thing at a walk or choose to canter / gallop in certain stretches (we did the latter!). Ranch is small and quaint — only 20 mins out of the city but feels like a completely different, serene world. Also home to many super friendly dogs and the most adorable spicy kitten. Would absolutely recommend!

I booked this horseback riding trip solo, and it turned out to be one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in Cusco. Riding a horse through the Andean landscapes of Cusco felt like traveling back in time. Amid sacred mountains, ancient ruins, and an endless sky, I felt a unique connection with the nature and history of Cusco. What makes this experience even more special is that it is a family-run business, with a warm, genuine, and caring approach. From the moment of pickup, everything flows with kindness: the driver and the guide are very friendly and make you feel welcome and well taken care of at all times. The horses are very well cared for—they are calm, gentle, and clearly treated with respect and love. The commitment to their wellbeing is evident, making the ride safe, comfortable, and enjoyable. Additionally, the ranch has very affectionate dogs and cats who approach with confidence and joy. They reflect the beautiful, respectful environment they live in, and it’s clear they receive plenty of love and good care. I have ridden with other companies in Cusco, but without a doubt, this is the one I recommend most, as many claim to be family-run but really are not. Here, you truly feel the authenticity and commitment of a real family. If you are looking for an authentic, relaxing, and deeply enriching experience, this ride is a must.

I had such an amazing experience horseback riding in the beautiful Andes mountain valleys with my guide Holger and wonderful horse, Galán! I was lucky enough to have my own private tour and explore special local spots in the canyons, see a few historic Incan ruins, and learn more about the rich and spiritual culture of Cusco. We even stopped at a nice little watering hole for snacks and to relax our feet in the fresh water. I’ve ridden horses a handful of times in my life and this experience was the first time I got to experience galloping and now I’m hooked! Holger and Galán made me feel safe and secure enough to try galloping and Holger got a few awesome videos and pictures for me. 🙂 I HIGHLY recommend doing a horseback riding tour with Horseback Riding - you will not regret it! Definitely the highlight of my time in Cusco so far. Thank you Holger for your hospitality and knowledge and thank you Galán for the great ride!
I, along with 4 other friends (all women), took this tour in September of 2017. It was definitely a highlight of my trip to Peru! The tour was well organized and offered a variety of experiences. The first 3 days consisted of several hours of riding, broken up by lunch and a variety of side trips to local cultural and agricultural sites, and the 4th day was the tour of Machu Picchu. Our guide was exceptional, providing a rich history with all the sites we stopped at along the trip. The horses were calm and well cared for. While the accommodations during the riding portion of the trip were basic, the food was excellent, and the Inn keepers were welcoming. I would highly recommend this tour!!
For my wife’s 50th we decided to do something special and horseback ridding in the Andreas ticked the box. Being fairly competent riders we thought a trek might not be enough for us. How wrong we were. Holgar was a superb horseman and an even better guide his knowledge of the history of Peru was second to none you could not find a better person to spend 3 days roaming the mountains on a horse with than him. He was helpful and accommodating always wanting to please. The best day was going across country to Moray on Claire’s birthday. Our only regret was not buying more of the locally made clothing, it was not until going to the markets in Cosco after, that we realised the quality and value we had missed out on !
