Beschrijving
Rijdend over secundaire wegen en een aangename vervuilde plek, zullen we een van de meest fascinerende en typische gebieden van Salento ontdekken: de omgeving van Otranto. Als we de vallei van Idro oversteken, botsen we tegen zijn Byzantijnse crypte van Saint Angel, en we zullen de stichting "Le Costantine" bereiken, een centrum dat zich toelegt op biologische landbouw en traditioneel weven met oude weefgetouwen. We fietsen naar de megalithische tuin van Giurdignano, om zijn voorhistorische hunebed en menhir te bewonderen, dan zullen we een klein meer zien in een verlaten bauxietgroeve. Kom langs bij een bakker met een steenoven voor een heerlijke lunch met typische producten, maar ook bij Porto Badisco voor een zoete koffie met ijs en amandelmelk en voor een frisse duik.

We gaan de Idro-vallei op langs een aangename onverharde plek en we zullen de St. Angelo-crypte zien, die in de Byzantijnse tijd in de zachte rots van Salento werd uitgehouwen.
We gaan verder naar Casamassella en stoppen bij de Costantine Foundation, een centrum gewijd aan biologische landbouw en traditioneel weven met oude weefgetouwen.
Daarna bereiken we Giurdignano, het belangrijkste megalithische centrum van Salento vanwege de vele hunebedden en menhirs, het eerste bewijs van menselijke aanwezigheid in het gebied.
Kom langs bij een bakkerij met steenoven voor een heerlijke lunch verzorgd door de organisatie. Na de lunch fietsen we naar Porto Badisco voor een lange pauze, en als het weer het toelaat, om te zwemmen. Het is ook mogelijk om kano's te huren.
We gaan dan verder langs de prachtige kustweg naar Otranto. We stoppen bij de vuurtoren van Punta Palascìa, het meest oostelijke punt van Italië, en een bijzonder meer in een niet meer gebruikte bauxietgroeve. Keer terug naar Otranto in de late namiddag.

Carlo took us from start to finish in his story about Otranto area. Seen many unknown places where you can normally never get by car. This 37km bike ride takes you mainly on roads through the hinterland and sometimes even gravel paths. Eaten tasty figs along the way, freshly picked. In short, fun day in good company.
Amazing day with Carlo. He was super knowledgeable about the whoke area, history, flowers, wildlife, plants, just a fantastic day out. Easy pace and relaxed. My wife and I love our bike tours and this was one of the best.
Last Saturday we took part in a splendid bicycle ride with Salento Bici Tour. Beautiful experience among menhirs and dolmens with lots of history and nature. The stop at Porto Badisco and the visits to Punta Palascia (the easternmost point of Italy) and the bauxite quarries were the icing on a relaxing and fun experience. Carlo, like the entire Salento Bici Tour team, are highly trained people who pay attention to the experience of the participants, with good quality bikes, including electric ones. Highly recommended
A very nice day with a guide who shares his passion of his land. We drove in very beautiful small country roads, discovered some monoliths and caves as well as their stories. Beautiful landscapes at the end of the day, along the coast. Very good & new e-bikes . Enchanted

It was a joy dealing with Carlo from beginning to end. He promptly responded to all inquiries and made helpful suggestions leading up to the tour. With my 2 older sons a very informative bike ride done with Carlo. The bike is a perfect way to explore the area. Carlo gave everything a dimension by telling the back stories about this historically interesting area. The trip is certainly not hard and doable for almost everyone.
