Deze waardevolle reis met een door de overheid erkende en ervaren meertalige gids is een fantastische en efficiënte manier om Otaru te verkennen! Otaru is een beroemde historische stad en een populaire vakantieplek in Hokkaido. Maar als je er nog nooit eerder bent geweest, kan het moeilijk zijn om te weten waar je heen moet en wat je moet zien. In deze gids introduceren we enkele van de beste bezienswaardigheden, restaurants en snoepwinkels voor degenen die voor het eerst naar Otaru gaan. Laat ons weten wat je zou willen ervaren en we zullen een tour van vier uur op maat maken die het beste bij je past! Het Otaru-kanaal is een klassiek hoofdbestanddeel als het gaat om beroemde bezienswaardigheden van Hokkaido. Ooit het distributiecentrum van Hokkaido, had het een bevolking die zelfs die van Sapporo overtrof. In die tijd werd het kanaal gebruikt om schepen via binnenvaartschepen te lossen en werd het aangelegd om de afstand dat goederen konden worden gedistribueerd te vergroten. Uiteindelijk was het kanaal niet langer nodig om zijn functie te vervullen toen de dokken eenmaal waren aangelegd en moest het worden gestort. Het is momenteel echter een plek voor zowel burgers als toeristen om te ontspannen en te genieten met zijn promenades en gaslampen die de rivieroevers verlichten.
De historische gebouwen van Otaru City uit het begin van de 20e eeuw worden nu gebruikt als verschillende bronnen voor toerisme. De Otaru Art Base tegenover het Otaru-kanaal aan de overkant van Rinkosen Street is zo'n faciliteit. Er zijn vier historische gebouwen waar 20 van de grootste banken in Hokkaido waren verzameld, voorheen het centrum van de economie van Hokkaido, bekend als 'North Wall Street'. Wat was de voormalige Hokkaido Takushoku Bank Otaru Branch zoals te zien op de foto, is nu de thuisbasis van het Nitori Museum of Art, en bevat displays zoals Japanse en buitenlandse schilderijen, houtsnijwerk en meer. In het souterrain vind je de Art Nouveau Art Déco Glasgalerij.
Als u voor uw plezier reist, dan wilt u genieten van lekker eten en winkelen. Beide kunnen in Otaru's Sakaimachi Dori Shopping Street, gelegen aan de binnenzijde van Rinkosen Street, parallel aan het Otaru Canal. Het is een eenrichtingsstraat die zich ongeveer 900 meter uitstrekt van North Wall Street naar de Marchen Crossroads waar u de Bank of Japan Otaru Branch vindt. Aan beide zijden van de straat staan oude koopmanswinkels en gebouwen in westerse stijl. In de buurt van het Otaru-kanaal is het een andere zeer populaire toeristische plek.
Otaru staat misschien bekend om zijn nostalgische invloed van historische westerse gebouwen en glasambachten, maar er is ook een plek die de geschiedenis van Japan van lang geleden weergeeft. Een van deze plaatsen is de Tanaka Sake-brouwerij, opgericht in 1899. Hier worden veel soorten alcoholische dranken vervaardigd, waaronder pruimenwijn, zoete sake en natuurlijk de geliefde lokale sake van Otaru, Takaragawa. Omdat het koele klimaat van Otaru het hele jaar door de productie van sake mogelijk maakt, is de Tanaka Sake Brewery Kikkougura een geweldige plek om op elk moment van het jaar te bezoeken.
Iedereen kan genieten van een wandeling door de verschillende prachtige landschappen van het historische Otaru. Met uitzicht op deze prachtige stad aan zee en de Japanse Zee ligt de berg Tengu, op ongeveer 15 minuten rijden van het Otaru IC. De Mt Tengu Ropeway brengt je in ongeveer 4 minuten van de voet van de berg naar de top, een totale afstand van 735 meter. Vanaf de bergtop heb je zelfs een geweldig uitzicht op het schiereiland Shakotan.

Deze privétour is een wandeldagtocht. Een privévoertuig is niet inbegrepen. Openbaar vervoer of lokale taxi's kunnen worden gebruikt om van locatie te wisselen. De exacte transportkosten kunnen met de gids worden besproken nadat een reservering is afgerond. Houd Japanse Yen bij de hand voor uw transportkosten. Als u een privévoertuig wilt regelen, neem dan rechtstreeks contact met ons op. Alle privévoertuigen moeten 5 dagen van tevoren worden gereserveerd. Maximaal aantal passagiers: 7.

This was our first day in Japan and our guide was wonderful! She had beautiful English and had a lot of little tidbits of knowledge about Otaru and navigating around Japan in general. She was a delight! We saw so much and learned a little as well. It was a wonderful day.

Our guide, Fumiko Yoshizawa was delightful. It was a particularly cold day and she brought us hand warmers which was so very thoughtful. Clearly Fumiko loves her city and loves sharing it with visitors. She contacted us several times before the tour to ensure when and where to meet her. She took us to a local restaurant that we would not have found on our own and guided us to try dishes we probably would not have tried without her encouragement. The food was delicious. She took us to several places and gave us rest periods as needed. She is a great tour guide.

It was disappointing to learn that the museum we had originally planned to close was closed, but he quickly suggested the Otaru General Museum. There, we learned about the history of Otaru while listening to the guide. We met our guide, Mr. Yakuwa, for the first time in the lobby of the hotel where we were going to stay, and he was a dandy man about the same age as us, so we were able to ask him to guide us with peace of mind. At a sushi restaurant that Mr. Hakkuwa had booked in advance for lunch, we had a good meal. After that, the half day was full of shopping in Sakaimachi street, exploring the canal, and enjoying delicious sweets as a break. Thank you very much. As a side note, our dinner was undecided, but the beer restaurant that our guide told us about just before we parted was great in terms of atmosphere and taste.
