Deze dagelijkse excursie is gemaakt voor reizigers op zoek naar ontspanning, mooie uitzichten, lekker eten en wijn. U verkent de charme van twee kleine middeleeuwse steden in de regio Umbrië en Lazio, met hun kastelen, torens, kerken en paleizen, waar het leven in een zacht tempo beweegt. De rit van Rome naar deze steden en tussen de dorpen, door weelderig groen, is werkelijk charmant, rustgevend en vredig. Het is een kans om te genieten van authentieke Italiaanse vleeswaren, wijn, olijfolie en gegrild brood bekend als "bruschetta"! Op verzoek kunnen we ook een wijnproeverij organiseren om de dagtocht nog memorabeler te maken.

Dit charmante stadje werd ongeveer 2500 jaar geleden door Etrusken gesticht op de top van een heuvel gevormd door "tufah"-steen. Het gebied moet er in die tijd echt anders uitgezien hebben. De natuurlijke erosie en aardbevingen hebben de stad echt veel minder ruimte op de heuveltop veranderd dan het oorspronkelijk had. In 1695 verwoestte een van die aardbevingen het soort natuurlijke brug die Civita verbond met de klootzak nabij de stad Bagnoregio. De natuurlijke erosie is niet gestopt en de hellingen van de heuvel brokkelen steeds af, daarom noemen ze Civita “de stervende stad”. Civita is als een eiland door een smalle loopbrug verbonden met de werkelijkheid en met het omliggende platteland; het voert ons weg, niet zozeer in afstand als wel in tijd...
Opgericht door de Etrusken rond de VIIe eeuw. v.C. heette de stad VELZNA, maar bij de Romeinen bekend onder de naam Volsinii. Het werd veroverd door de laatste in 264 voor Christus. Verrezen tijdens het begin van de middeleeuwen werd een vrije en rijke stad tijdens de XII en XIII eeuw tot de catastrofe van de pest in 1348. Werd een deel van het Vaticaan en werd versterkt door de kardinaal Albornoz die het fort in 1364 bouwde en veranderde weinig van uiterlijk in de eeuwen die volgden. Er zijn veel bezienswaardigheden om te bezoeken, zoals de Duomo met zijn opmerkelijke façade en wonderen binnenin, de Toren van de Moor, vanwaar het uitzicht adembenemend is, en de metro's!

Andrea came to pick us up at the time agreed upon in a very comfortable Mercedes Benz van. The ride was very comfortable. Civita de Bagnoregio is a must see! Andrea told us that we could take as much time as we liked so he never rushed us. We loved exploring this little charming city! Then we went to Orvieto and Andrea took us to a restaurant where we enjoyed the best meal we’ve had in all the time we’ve been in Rome. Orvieto is a very developed but yet charming city with many stores and if you like ceramics, Umbria is known for ceramics and they have several stores in Orvieto that sell them. Again, Andrea told us to take as much time as we needed. He never rushed us. I recommend this trip. Well worth it!
The two towns were a great place to visit. The church was spectacular. The restaurant that Alessandro recommended was one of the best places we went on vacation

Our tour with Alessandro was exceptional! It was my favorite tour of our trip. It was paced well ... never feeling too rushed and giving us a little time to explore on our own too. Alessandro customized the tour for us, depending on what interested us and our schedule. The restaurant he recommended was excellent. Alessandro was kind and patient and made us feel at ease. I loved everything we did/saw on the tour and would highly recommend it.
Alessandro is amazing. We met on a previous trip to Rome and I was thoroughly impressed with his knowledge about ancient Rome and Italy in general. We had wonderful conversations on the ride to Orvieto and back, and I learned a lot. In Orvieto we saw the beautiful Duomo and underground Etruscan and medieval tunnels, as well as the beautiful city itself. He also took us to the disappearing town of Bagnoregio and the bizarre monster park of Bomarzo. It was a wonderful day.

A PERFECT day, thanks to Alessandro! We are a family of six and were planning to come to Rome at the beginning of July. We found Rome-Limousines on Trip Advisor, and began discussing plans with Alessandro. His quick response and helpful information was just the beginning of a perfect vacation! Alessandro recommended getting OUT OF Rome on the first Sunday of the month as that is when many of the attractions are open for Romans at no charge, so the city is even more full (and crazy) than usual. So, he recommended a day trip to Orvieto, Civita de Bagnoregio with a wine tasting at a family-owned and operated vineyard. Not only were we treated to an amazing Sunday that was a little slower paced and relaxed, we had the BEST day. Alessandro took us to the Duomo di Orvieto, which I will never forget, led us through the streets when we wanted to find an awesome iced coffee. He always had “a plan” in mind, it was happy to pivot to honor our special requests and changes. After a time, we proceeded to Cantine Neri where we saw how they make their wines, went deep down into their storage cave and then had the most delightful wine and olive oil tasting imaginable. After a busy day, he returned us to our hotel with plenty of time to rest up for the evening. THANK YOU, Alessandro! You made our trip fantastic!
We enjoyed a nice day trip outside of Rome to Lake Bolsena and Civita. Alessandro customized the trip for us, we skipped Orvieto since we had visited before, and decided on Lake Bolsena instead. Alessandro was well-prepared, he picked us up at our hotel in Rome on time, and provided brochures on the towns we were going to visit which I appreciated. Civita di Bagnoregio was amazing and we visited in winter! I’m sure in summer it’s hopping! We had a nice lunch there with Alessandro, it was a joy getting to know him, his life, his family. A delightful guide. He was super helpful in Bolsena with our COVID testing (we forgot to bring our passports as proof of ID) but he was persistent, and worked it out on our behalf with the pharmacist. We ended the day with a wine tasting nearby and shipped a case home. Skip the big tours and book yourself a private guide to customize a trip to meet your needs, you won’t regret booking with Alessandro.

Wonderful trip to Orvieto and the spectacular Civita di Bagnoregio in the company of Alessandro and his comfortable Mercedes. Recommended for any person, couple or family who wants to spend a day in peace and serenity in the Umbrian countryside.
The personal attention Alessandro gave us throughout the day, including a fantastic lunch, the many great landmarks we visited and toured, ending with him personally delivering us and our luggage to the train station, personally making sure we got the right tickets and got on the right train.
