De Orang-oetantrektocht van EcoTravel is de meest populaire optie om de Sumatraanse jungle te ontdekken. Tijdens een tweedaagse jungletrektocht heb je een grote kans om Sumatraanse orang-oetans en andere wilde dieren van dichtbij in hun natuurlijke habitat te zien. 's Avonds genieten van een heerlijk "jungle dinner" op uw camping, daarna wegdromen bij de melodieën van het regenwoud en 's ochtends wakker worden met de geluiden van vogels en apen. Na je jungletrektocht brengt je "jungletaxi" je terug naar je accommodatie in Bukit Lawang met een traditionele tuberafting over de Bohorok-rivier. In tegenstelling tot andere aanbieders in Bukit Lawang, zijn onze duurzame jungletochten en geselecteerde Sumatra-tours gericht op kwaliteit en veiligheid in plaats van kwantiteit. - Er is een ontmoeting met uw gidsteam ÉÉN DAG VOOR HET BEGIN VAN DE TOUR bij ons EcoTravel Tour Office tussen 16:00 uur en 19:00 uur, waar u essentiële informatie krijgt en een introductie over uw jungletocht die de volgende ochtend begint. Zorg ervoor dat je op tijd in Bukit Lawang bent! Houd er rekening mee dat de transfer naar de jungle vanaf Medan Airport ongeveer 4,5 uur duurt, dus hoe later u aankomt, hoe later u in Bukit Lawang aankomt. Wij raden u aan om voor deze nacht uw accommodatie te kiezen in onze EcoTravel Cottages, in The Hangout@ EcoTravel of in een andere accommodatie in de buurt van ons EcoTravel-kantoor. Je EcoTravel-jungletrektocht begint om 08:30 uur vanaf onze basis in Bukit Lawang. In een kleine groep van maximaal 8 personen ga je de jungle verkennen. Je tour is beperkt in omvang en aantal vanwege milieuproblemen.
- In Bukit Lawang zijn er geen geldautomaten! Zorg ervoor dat je genoeg contant geld bij je hebt! Als exclusieve service voor onze gasten wisselen we ook euro's en bieden we creditcardbetaling (Mastercard en Visa / 3%) aan in ons EcoTravel-kantoor.
- We zijn blij om vegetarische, veganistische of niet-allergische maaltijden te bieden tijdens jungle trektochten, indien nodig. Informeer ons team uiterlijk 1 dag voor aanvang van de trekking over het dieet van uw voorkeur.
- Niet geschikt voor kleine kinderen jonger dan 6 jaar en reizigers met hoge bloeddruk, allergieën, zwangerschap, operaties, angst voor speciale insecten, hoogtes of duisternis.
- Reisverzekeringen vallen onder de verantwoordelijkheid van elke reiziger en moeten ongevallen, letsel of verlies van persoonlijke eigendommen dekken!
- Je moet fit genoeg zijn voor sterke oefeningen als je van plan bent om een paar dagen te gaan wandelen. Een gezondheidscontrole met uw arts is een absolute noodzaak voordat u naar de Sumatraanse jungle reist en ligt binnen de verantwoordelijkheid van elke gast!
- Wat mee te nemen: comfortabele wandelschoenen of goede sportschoenen, 25-30 liter rugzak, lange broek en T-shirt in felle kleuren, lange sokken, een verandering van kleding, trui met lange mouwen, slippers of sandalen, handdoek, zaklamp, mug repellent, zonnebrandcrème, zwemkleding en toiletpapier. Aarzel niet om contact met ons op te nemen als u nog vragen heeft.
- BELANGRIJKE INFORMATIE: Meestal zie je orang-oetans op trektochten in de jungle, maar er is geen garantie! Deze dieren leven in het wild en het is moeilijk om op elk moment van de dag te bepalen waar ze zullen zijn. Maar alle EcoTravel-gidsen hebben jarenlange ervaring en ons team heeft een zeer goede reputatie in Bukit Lawang. We huren geen extra, externe gidsen vanwege veiligheidsredenen voor onze gasten. Onze handvol goed bedreven en enthousiaste EcoTravel-gidsen zijn inwoners uit deze regio, spreken Engels, hebben uitstekende kennis van planten en dieren - en zijn allemaal gecertificeerd door de lokale ITGA-HPI (Vereniging voor Toeristische Gidsen van Indonesië - Himpunan Pramuwisata Indonesië).

Magnificent 2-day trek in the jungle to meet the orangutans with 1 night in a jungle camp. Excellent guides, very professional (Pipitto and his group). Very good organization and delicious meals throughout the trip. We highly recommend it.

Our family of 6 joined a jungle trekking tour and were absolutely thrilled. From the very beginning everything was perfectly organized, well prepared, clearly coordinated, and punctual. Our guides Mahendra, Wanwan, Awi, Anton were fantastic, warm-hearted, attentive, and always looking out for everyone (specially ‘mama’ and ‘papa’ who needed some help while walking,-). They all took excellent care of us (our son injured his foot, they treated him and took care of him with so much care), guided us safely with lots of information on animals and vegetation. They created an unforgettable time in the jungle through their positive and family like spirit. The delicious food (thanks Herman, Ari, Agus), the campsite by the river and the whole experience in the jungle were breathtaking. We saw orangutans, different species of monkeys, elephants despite some heavy rain. It was an unforgettable experience with amazing people, perfect organization, delicious food, and indescribable moments in nature. We highly recommend this tour. A big thank you to the whole team – Mahendra, Wanwan, Awi, Anton – for making this adventure so special to us (promise Wanwan, next time we’ll bring some belgian chocolates with us,-))
A unique experience for me and my family. Guides Beng Beng and One One were very kind and helpful. Though I had a handicap with asthma on exercise they took care of me. Fantastic food even in the camp! Great atmosphere!
We had an absolutely amazing experience with EcoTravel and would highly recommend them to anyone visiting Sumatra. Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming, especially our jungle guide Pipito, who made us feel safe and well looked after throughout the trip. We were lucky enough to see several orangutans, and all the guides were fantastic at spotting wildlife and helping us find the best viewpoints. Camping in the jungle was much more comfortable than we expected, the surroundings were beautiful, and the food was excellent. We also loved washing the elephants and joining the local village tour, where we learned about everyday life, local culture, and traditional food production. The staff at the hotel were always helpful and greeted us with big smiles. Overall, this was an unforgettable experience and one of the highlights of our trip to Indonesia!
Me and my mum did the overnight jungle trekking tour in may 2026. We could not wish for a better trip! Everything went perfectly smooth from the beginning. Our group consisted of 7 people plus our two amazing guides Hendra and Chippy. We spotted the first Orang Utan as well as Thomas leaf monkeys before even entering the national park. Throughout the hike we saw many kinds of animals such as hornbills, turtles and different kinds of monkeys. The campsite was arranged nicely next to the river and we felt comfortable from the second we stepped out of the jungle. I can't find words to describe the wonderful and tasty dinner we got at the campsite. One of the many highlights was the Rafting back to Bukit Lawang the next day. Thank everyone for making our journey an unforgettable experience and I hope we will see us again (:
The 2d1n Orangutang trek with Ecotravel was truly amazing. The guides were great with good English proficiency. The food brought and cooked on the trip was fresh and the guides made sure there was no waste left behind. They ensured we were able to spot some (semi-)wild orangutangs in a sustainable and eco-friendly way, and gave us a lot of useful information. The campsite was also comfortable for an overnight stay. Would definitely recommend booking a trek with Ecotravel when visiting Bukit Lawang in Sumatra!
Wow what an incredible experience we had on our 2 day 1 night Jungle Trek. We were with a group of 8 of various ages, we are in our 50’s and reasonably fit. The trekking itself is challenging, the heat and humidity was so intense. You really do need to make sure you hydrate and prepare to sweat like you have never sweated before! Bring and use Hydra lites as well as water. Trekking to camp took around 9 hours we saw many wild and semi wild Orangutans, Gibbons, Monkeys along the way. Camping in tents were hot and very basic, camp food was delicious and the guides are so kind, friendly and helpful. A very special thanks to our amazing guide Wan Wan who really helped us get through the last part of the trek when the heat and humidity got the best of us. Wan Wan was patient, caring and so knowledgable about the trek, how to navigate the terrain and kept us safe! We would highly recommend Eco Travel for all your tours in North Sumatra. Great communication, very professional and well run business who genuinely care about their visitors and ensuring that ethical and eco friendly practices are maintained.
We did a 2-day jungle trek with Eco Travel. It was one of the most beautiful experiences so far. This organization has very good guides and they are very respectful towards nature. They are also extremely helpful and know what they’re doing. Special thanks to our guides, they truly made this trip an adventure.
The best! Excellent guides (Anton and Antonio), really looked after us with the trek, saw the Orangutans and all types of wildlife (7 species of monkey). Magical!
