Gelegen langs National Road 6 tussen het stadscentrum van Siem Reap en de internationale luchthaven, beslaat het Oorlogsmuseum Cambodja (voorheen het Siem Reap Oorlogsmuseum) meer dan 2 hectare. IT werd in 2001 opgericht en in 2013 omgedoopt met ingrijpende renovaties die in 2015 begonnen om tentoonstellingen te behouden en te restaureren
Wat Thmei is een kleine, maar belangrijke herdenkingsplek in Siem Reap, gebouwd ter ere van de slachtoffers van het tragische verleden van Cambodja onder het Rode Khmer-regime. Gelegen op het terrein van een functionerende boeddhistische pagode, bevat het een glazen stoepa gevuld met de schedels en botten van degenen die hun leven verloren. Bezoekers kunnen displays zien die de donkere geschiedenis van Cambodja uitleggen, terwijl ze ook de rustige sfeer van het tempelterrein ervaren waar monniken hun dagelijks leven voortzetten. In tegenstelling tot de grotere Killing Fields in de buurt van Phnom Penh, is Wat Thmei een intiemere plaats van herinnering, die zowel reflectie als cultureel inzicht biedt
Het APOPO Visitor Center biedt een inspirerende en leerzame ervaring waar bezoekers leren hoe speciaal getrainde Afrikaanse reuzenbuidelratten, bekend als HeroRATs, landmijnen detecteren en levens redden in Cambodja. De rondleiding omvat een introductie in de landmijngeschiedenis van Cambodja, een live demonstratie van de ratten aan het werk en verhalen over hoe APOPO heeft geholpen om uitgestrekte stukken land vrij te maken voor lokale gemeenschappen. Het is een oogverblindend bezoek dat geschiedenis, humanitair werk en hoop voor de toekomst combineert — en laat zien hoe innovatie en compassie Cambodja veiliger maken, landmijn voor land.
Satcha werd gelanceerd in maart 2023 en bevindt zich op #256 BBU Road. Het dient als Cambodja’s eerste broedplaats voor handwerk. IT versterkt en traint lokale ambachtslieden door middel van intensieve meerjarige programma's die traditionele Khmer-technieken combineren met eigentijds design. Het terrein beslaat ongeveer een hectare en omvat werkplaatsen, aangelegde tuinen, een showroom en een café – allemaal gebouwd met duurzame, milieuvriendelijke materialen zoals bamboe.
De koninklijke residentie (Preăh Réachôdâmnăk) is een koninklijke villa gebouwd in 1904, die dient als de officiële residentie van de koning van Cambodja wanneer hij Siem Reap bezoekt IT heeft een historische betekenis vanaf het Franse protectoraat tijdperk, toen koning Norodom Sihanouk in de jaren 1950 zijn onafhankelijkheidscampagne van daaruit zou hebben gepland Alleen Siem Reap Een grote brand in maart 2023 beschadigde een van de gebouwen in het complex, hoewel de hoofdwoning gespaard bleef; restauratiewerkzaamheden zijn aan de gang

We were looking for something to do in Seim Reap that did not involve a temple or ancient ruin. That is exactly what we found we in this highly educational tour about the killing fields and what Cambodia has gone through as a country. It also highlighted the importance of the Appoca organization and their training of rats to find land mines in the country. And some of the artillery that is laying around in Cambodia at the war museum. Make sure to visit the royal palace and gardens to see the tree bats and release a bird to bring good karma for the rest of your trip
