Zodra iedereen aan boord is, beginnen we aan de schilderachtige reis door de adembenemende landschappen rondom Arequipa.
Stop bij Pampa de Arrieros. We nemen een pauze bij dit historische treinstation, dat ooit een belangrijk knooppunt was voor regionale handel.
We betreden dit beschermde natuurgebied, bekend om zijn ongerepte Andeslandschappen en diverse wilde dieren. Een van de hoogtepunten is het spotten van vicuñas, sierlijke wilde kameelachtigen die vrij rondlopen in hun habitat.
Om te helpen bij de acclimatisatie van de hoogte stoppen we bij Patahuasi, waar reizigers kunnen genieten van een traditionele Inca kruidenthee, bekend om zijn gunstige eigenschappen in omgevingen op grote hoogte.
Aangekomen bij dit fascinerende geologische wonder, ontdekken we surrealistische rotsformaties gebeeldhouwd door eeuwen van vulkanische activiteit en erosie.
Op een hoogte van 4.600 meter boven zeeniveau dalen we af naar de voet van deze adembenemende watervallen. Het stromende water omgeven door ruige landschappen zorgt voor een betoverend gezicht, perfect voor fotografie en ontspanning
Terug naar Arequipa. Na een dag vol verkenning en natuurschoon beginnen we aan onze terugreis.

This was a really good day trip to tick off the Pillones waterfall and Puruna rock forest. The guide Christian was nice and ensured everyone was having a good time. Pick up was decent at 6:30am compared to some of the other early tour times. First stop was the option to buy coffee, coca candy, snacks and use the toilet. Then we went to the abandoned train tracks. Interesting site. Then breakfast at a tourist stop. Though humble in decor, the queso sandwich and mate de inka tea was really satisfying. The waterfall and rock forests were incredible sights. Lunch was at the same place. The home made quinoa omelette was so good with pickles, rice and hot chips. I was happy with the choice. The shuttle bus was a ride in itself. Very bumpy, off road driving but our driver was very cautious and safe. This is what travelling is. It takes you out of your comfort zone to try and see new things. I would do this day trip again!
Really cool. If you like hiking down a canyon and seeing a lot of interesting places at high altitudes and understand what one is experiencing in English and Spanish, in our case we needed English. However, the guide that we had , we had hoped to be able to speak English and Spanish well. I think that if you advertise the activity and pay for an English speaking guide because they tell you it is so, then that is what one should expect to get, but we didn't. The tour urself, the people, the food and hiking were great!

A very pleasant day trip from Arequipa with out tour guide Jose Jose who did everything and walked extra mile for us to feel welcomed and to enjoy out day and managed perfectly spanish and english explanation understandable and interesting. Took care of us as we have vegan and vegetarian diet. Highly recomended.

The tour was fun and definitely worth the price. A few things to keep in mind: Breakfast: “Breakfast included” means a simple meal — a piece of bread with your choice of ham or cheese, or egg, (singular), and a cup of tea from a preset menu. If you want anything more substantial, you’ll need to pay extra. Lunch: Before boarding the bus, you’ll need to prepay for lunch, since the group will all eat at the same restaurant later. Cash: Be sure to bring cash. There are no ATMs along the way, and the only chance to get some MIGHT be at the convenience store that allows cashback at 5% charge. I recommend not waiting until that day as the ATM is in the plaza did not work and it was very stressful. Scrambling to try to get cash. Pickup: The tour meets in the main plaza, then picks up additional guests from nearby hotels. Guide: The guide, Shirl spoke some English, however, a lot of the details were left out as I am bilingual I could hear a lot more of the stories in Spanish than what was provided to the folks in English. The Sites: The waterfall requires descending into a canyon and climbing back up, so good mobility is important. The winds at the Stone Forest can get quite chilly — bring a jacket! Also keep in mind unless you are at or around the plaza de Armas, even though you will select a pick up, it is likely that you will need to get a ride down to that area. They will text you around 7 or 8 o’clock the night before to be there for 6 AM. We were staying at the Mirador de Carmen Alto and had to catch a ride early in the morning. It’s a long day, but overall a good tour with beautiful scenery.

Let’s start with the good: Our driver was excellent & we felt very safe. Our guide, Roberto, went above & beyond taking care of everyone on the tour. We were the only English speakers on the bus & he took great care to explain everything to us. Now the bad: We paid extra for what was listed on the Viator site as a small group (max 9 people). Instead we were picked up 20 minutes late on a large bus that ended up with a total of 28 people. So we spent 40 minutes after pickup of driving around Arequipa to pick up all the tourists. With such a large group of people, at each stop we got further & further behind schedule as some could not do the small hikes easily or ignored our guides instructions on what time to return to the bus. It made for a much longer day than planned & when we requested a partial refund based on not getting the experience we paid for, it was denied. I would not recommend this specific tour or Viator as they do not stand behind their listings either.
