Olive Oil Tasting & Ancient Epidavros

Onze tour begint vanuit Nafplion en we rijden door het Argolische vliegtuig richting Epidaurus. Onze eerste stop is een olijfolieproductie-installatie waar we door het pand slenteren, veel leren over het verhaal, het productieproces en een proeverij maken van Griekse olijfolie, olijven en lekkernijen die daarop gebaseerd zijn. We vervolgen onze rondreis door het oude Epidaurus, waar we het oude theater van een van de beroemdste archeologische monumenten in Griekenland verkennen. We zullen ook de Asclepieion van Epidaurus bezoeken, die het centrum was van genezende ernstige ziekten voor het hele oude Griekenland. Rondom zijn veel monumenten gebouwd, met name de tempel van Asklepios, Tholos en anderen. De tour eindigt met onze terugkeer naar Nafplion.

We bezoeken een olijfoliefabriek waar we meer te weten komen over het belang van de olijfboom sinds de prehistorie en de zegening van olijven in het oude Griekenland. Ze zullen ons dan stap voor stap laten zien, de olijfolieproductieprocedure en ze zullen ons leren hoe we de olijfolie moeten proeven. Tijdens de proeverij zullen we genieten van een aantal zoete en zoute lekkernijen op basis van olijfolie.
We vervolgen de reis naar het oude Epidaurus, waar we het oude theater verkennen, een van de beroemdste en best bewaarde archeologische monumenten in Griekenland en het monumentale monument van de Unesco. Het staat bekend als de geboorteplaats van Apollo's zoon Asklepios de genezer. We zullen zijn tempel bezoeken en de Asclepieion, het centrum van genezing voor het hele oude Griekenland.

We had a great time on this tour! Unique Greek Tours was very easy to work with. Gina, our tour guide, was THE BEST! The Melas Oil tour was our first stop, and the tour provided great information about how they make their product and olive oil production in general And the visit to the theatre/ruins was very interesting. What a great way to spend the morning!
This is an awesome experience! The tour advertises that it includes a visit to the theater of Epidaurus, but really you get full access to the entire site of the Sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidaurus, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tour guide picks you up in Nafplion and drives you to the site. You are allowed as much time as you want to tour the site, and we were able to view the ancient temple and hospital complex, as well as the theater. The theater alone is worth flying to Greece to see. It's absolutely incredible! After touring Epidaurus, you are driven to the Melas olive farm where you are provided with an overview of olive growing from one of the Melas employees while sitting in the olive groves. Then you watch a short informational video that covers the company's certifications and processes. Then you are taken through the factory. When we visited the factory was not running because they only have two olive presses, which only run during harvest season (November to February). After the tour, you get to participate in an olive tasting of two varieties of extra virgin olive oil. Both were absolutely delicious! Finally, you are provided with what the tour guide described as a "snack," but was more of a light meal. It was also delicious! You get fresh extra virgin olive oil drizzled over fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, bread, olives, and chesses, accompanied by carbonated water. Once you are finished, you can purchase products from the company, which are significantly cheaper than you'll find in the grocery store. They have olives, honey olives, olive oil chocolate, olive oil, olive oil soap, and various olive oil skin care products. This is an incredible tour and well worth the price. The tour guide also provided us with her personal contact information and said we could contact her throughout the day if we had any questions or needed anything while we toured Nafplion. I 100% recommend this tour.
