Tijdens onze eendaagse tour naar Oban vanuit Glasgow ervaar je een beetje van alles wat de spectaculaire natuurlijke schoonheid van Schotland te bieden heeft. Dit zijn de ruige Westelijke Hooglanden waar majestueuze bergen naar beneden tuimelen tot glorieuze meren. Kastelen en valleien verbergen tragische verhalen van eeuwen geleden, en bruisende havens serveren lekker eten en bekroonde attracties. Je vriendelijke chauffeur-gids zal Schotse legendes tot leven brengen terwijl we ons land delen, van de mooie oevers van Loch Lomond tot het spookachtige Glencoe.

U ziet Loch Lomond door uw panoramisch raam terwijl we de westelijke oevers meanderen. Als u naar rechts kijkt ziet u Ben Lomond, Schotlands meest zuidelijke Munro (een berg boven 3000 voet) en uw eerste van de tour. We houden ook een korte verfrissing stop in de buurt van het meer.
We pauzeren voor foto's bij de 'Rest and Be Thankful', een iconisch Schots gezichtspunt zo genoemd dankzij de woorden die in steen zijn gehouwen door vermoeide soldaten die de oorspronkelijke militaire weg in 1753 hebben aangelegd.
Inveraray is een van de meest gefotografeerde steden van Schotland. Opgericht in 1745 door de 3e hertog van Argyll, opperhoofd van de machtige Clan Campbell. Inveraray is een klassiek voorbeeld van een 18e-eeuwse geplande stad met zijn kenmerkende witgekalkte Georgische architectuur. Passagiers kunnen de stad en de winkels verkennen of een van de onderstaande attracties bezoeken. (Houd er rekening mee dat deze stop in de winter kan worden teruggebracht tot 60 minuten om de impact van de vroege zonsondergang later in de tour te minimaliseren.)
Passagiers hebben de mogelijkheid om Inveraray Castle te verkennen, waar de hertog van Argyll en zijn familie vandaag de dag wonen (tickets kunnen op de dag zelf worden gekocht). Adem de heldere Highland-lucht in tijdens een wandeling door het park, bos en de tuinen, die schitterend zijn met regenbogen van azalea's en rododendrons die in de zomer in Argyll bloeien. (Let op: het kasteel is alleen geopend van april tot oktober, van donderdag tot maandag. Het is elke dinsdag en woensdag gesloten.
In plaats van het kasteel te bezoeken, kunnen passagiers er ook voor kiezen om een van de topattracties van Schotland te bezoeken, de 19e-eeuwse Inveraray Jail, een levend museum waar je kunt ervaren hoe het was om achter de tralies opgesloten te zitten (tickets kunnen op de dag worden gekocht) .
We stoppen voor foto's van het imposante Kilchurn Castle, trots aan het hoofd van Loch Awe.
Oban, oorspronkelijk een klein vissersdorpje, is nu de 'Poort naar de eilanden' en staat bekend als de 'zeevruchtenhoofdstad' van Schotland. Tegenwoordig is de haven het belangrijkste vertrekpunt voor de veerboot naar het eiland Mull en de Binnen- en Buiten-Hebriden. Liefhebbers van zeevruchten reizen van mijlenver om de verse, dagelijkse vangsten te proeven in de restaurants van de stad en u kunt hiervan ook genieten, of kiezen voor klassieke Schotse gerechten of meer internationale smaken.
Castle Stalker is een van de meest gefotografeerde bolwerken van Schotland. Het ligt op zijn eigen getijdeneilandje in Loch Laich. Uw chauffeur-gids wijst u naar het uitkijkpunt om foto's te maken.
De donkere bergen van Glencoe vallen op je af terwijl je wordt afgeleverd in een vallei van geweldige natuurlijke schoonheid. Het is gemakkelijk om je een van Schotlands meest beschamende tijden voor te stellen, het bloedbad van Glencoe in 1692, toen door Campbell geleide regeringssoldaten de clan MacDonald 's nachts afslachtten. We stoppen hier om van het uitzicht te genieten en hebben tijd om wat foto's te maken.
Onze laatste stop van de avond is in het Loch Lomond en Trossachs National Park, waar u kunt genieten van een vroege avond verfrissing voor onze terugkeer naar Glasgow.

Such a great trip with Kieran. Loch Lomond was fab as was Glencoe. Really enjoyed the stops at Inveraray and Oban. Well paced day. Saw plenty and coach was comfortable. Kieran’s explanation of the sites and Scottish history was the icing on the cake
The highlands are filled beautiful scenery!
Lovely day, Gary, the driver was excellent, and his wife’s homemade shortbread only added to the enjoyment. Sites were as advertised, and even had a couple of bonus stops for pictures of the hairy coos! The only thing to be aware of, Invernay castle now charges buses to drop off, and this company has decided not to pay it. It is quite a distance for a person with mobility issues! By the time I walked there and needed to save time to walk back only had about 25 minutes at the actual castle. The company should either make this explicit in the tour description or do like the other buses I saw in the parking lot and either absorb the cost or charge an extra couple of dollars per person to make up for it.

We had a fantastic day exploring Oban, Glencoe, and the Scottish Highlands. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, from the dramatic landscapes of Glencoe to the stunning coastal views in Oban. Every stop offered incredible photo opportunities and a chance to experience the beauty and history of Scotland. A special mention goes to our tour guide, Stewart, who was outstanding throughout the trip. He was knowledgeable, friendly, entertaining, and made the journey even more enjoyable with his interesting stories and insights about the places we visited. A long day but you see so many things. Not at all rushed, able to spend time at all destinations. Maggie, our guide was excellent
This tour packs a lot into one day. The frequent stops (every ~30-60 minutes) are a nice way to break up the drive. The two longer stops (90 minutes) at Inveraray and Oban are enough time but feel a bit rushed: At Inveraray there is really only time for a quick tour of the castle. and at Oban there is really only time for lunch but no exploring. But overall, it was a good experience and a nice way to get a taste of the Highlands.

When we arrived and our tour guide, Scott, had a cone on his head, I knew either this was going to be the greatest tour ever or a complete nightmare. Thankfully, Scott turned out to be a highly entertaining, very personable, very high energy guide whose knowledge of history and the sights was encyclopedic. He also made it a point to celebrate the fact my wife and I were on our honeymoon, which was very sweet. We got tons of great pictures, guidance on the best places to eat and shop and he played fun music to keep our spirits up in between informative announcements.
