Fairbanks Northern Lights Tour

Tanner was an excellent guide. He was a Fairbanks native so was very knowledgeable about the lights and tracking the weather patterns. Good conversationlist and safe driver.

Magic Under The Lights!!!

The purpose of the visit initially was to see the Northern Lights but it became so much more when our daughter’s boyfriend proposed! A truly magical evening. Mok did a great job of getting us to and from the lodge and when we got there it was a perfect place to see the lights! We could go outside and when we got cold head inside a view from the huge windows! There was also coffee, hot cocoa and cookies. Some brought their own snacks. This was PERFECTION!!!

Aurora viewing with a place to stay warm!

Paul took us up to the yurts. He was so knowledgeable about the Northern Lights. He kept us entertained all while making sure we did not miss the star of the show, Aurora. The yurts were clean, warm and provided a view from inside, if needed. There were also restroom facilities. He went out of his way to make sure we got some good photos of my husband and I. We are so thankful he shared his stories and knowledge with us. A must do!

Bizarre Torture

Our driver and guide, Paul was quite strange. He immediately shared personal stories about himself and his fiancé, which were sweet, but were inappropriate and irrelevant to our tour. He suggested to the five (three in our party, two others) of us that we stop at a gas station to pick up snacks before heading out to the yurt to wait for the aurora. Luckily no one was interested! We endured hours of his odd stories of his life. He passed out a card deck of Birds saying inappropriate negative humor. The guide for the yurt next door, Dan, who we knew because he was our Musher on an earlier dog sledding tour, came over to say that there was little chance we would see the northern lights since it had started snowing, and his group had decided they wanted to leave. We ended up staying another hour and a half! It was torture. Really a wasted night with no sleep!

Reactie van de operator

We are sorry you feel you did not have a good experience. We do tell stories about our life living in Alaska but nothing inappropriate your guide is a teacher so I'm sure of that. We are happy to hear that he offered for you all to grab some snacks on the way up that was nice of him. As we can not control the weather the other group decided that they all wanted to go back. The two others in your group decided they wanted to stay and hope for a clearing to see the lights. We will stay out for the entire time of the tour unless everyone in the group decides to go back as you all paid good money for the experience we will not go back early because a few decide they think its time to leave.

Great Aurora Viewing Experience

It was so good! Our guide Dan was dedicated and kept us engaged and entertained! We got to catch some great aurora shots. He made sure we all had our pictures taken and sacrificed few fingers to the cold😅! I recommend this activity, company, and guide. By the eay, the company workers were very helpful in having us booked and settled in a timely manner.

Exceptional Aurora Experience Even in Extreme Cold

We booked an Aurora Borealis tour with 1st Alaska Tours in Fairbanks for December, and even though we booked less than a week in advance, the experience was excellent. The day before our tour, 1st Alaska Tours contacted us to explain that daytime temperatures were already around -41°F. Since we had booked an outdoor viewing experience, they were concerned it would be uncomfortable and potentially unsafe. They upgraded us to their Yurt experience, which turned out to be ideal. We spent several hours in a warm yurt and only went outside when the aurora was active, which allowed us to fully enjoy the night. An added bonus was that the yurt next to us was hosting dog sled rides, so we were able to see a dog sled team up close. That experience was also available as an option, which made the night feel even more uniquely Alaskan. Our guide, Zach, truly made the experience memorable. He was warm, engaging, and very knowledgeable, sharing explanations about the science behind the aurora as well as Alaska’s history and geography. He was also honest when he did not know something and made an effort to find accurate information. The following night at the hot springs, we met Paul, another guide from 1st Alaska Tours who was leading a different group. He was very friendly and helpful and shared some excellent tips, which further reinforced how professional and guest-focused the entire team is. We would absolutely recommend 1st Alaska Tours to anyone visiting Fairbanks in search of the northern lights.

Yurt experience for the Northern lights

They yurts were cozy and warm. They provided snacks and drinks. We had Jake as our tour guide. He shared life in Alaska stories which was fantastic. We got some wonderful sights of the Aurora. They built a campfire to set beside and watch the sky’s as well if you could brave the cold

Outstanding Experience

Outstanding tour with Ash. If anything lacked in this tour, which it did not, Ash made up for with his knowledge and with. Highly recommend this tour and Ash as your tour guide.

Disappointing

It was a waste of time and money. The only thing even remotely worthwhile was a talk by a musher that wasn’t even part of our group. Should have had a talk about the subject matter— the northern lights.
