Gelegen op slechts 163 kilometer van Sofia, is Nis een fantastische optie om een Servische stempel in uw paspoort toe te voegen, zonder uit te checken bij uw hotel in Bulgarije. Nis is de derde grootste stad van Servië en de geboorteplaats van Constantijn de Grote, een van de belangrijkste keizers in de Romeinse geschiedenis. Verken de intrigerende geschiedenis van voormalig Joegoslavië, terwijl je heerlijke authentieke Servische roshtil (grill) eet, hetzij in een traditioneel restaurant waar je met een kaart kunt betalen (veel vegetarische en veganistische opties beschikbaar) of probeer het Servische straatvoedsel.

Dit Romeinse landgoed toont de overblijfselen van een graanschuur, een ambachtelijk centrum, villa's, sauna's en de overblijfselen van een oude villa met rijke mozaïeken. De meeste mozaïeken vertonen geometrische of bloemmotieven, terwijl twee mozaïeken figuren presenteren - het hoofd van de Medusa en een half uitgestrekte figuur van een riviergod (waarschijnlijk Neptunus). Het museum bevat sculpturen en portretten van Romeinse goden en godinnen, gebruiksvoorwerpen voor dagelijks gebruik (kommen, kruiken, lampen) en overblijfselen van loden pijpen die werden gebruikt om geneeskrachtig warm water uit de nabijgelegen Niska Banja (Nis Spa) te leveren.
Bij onze aankomst in Niš zullen we eerst de beroemde Cele Kula (Skull Tower NIS) bezoeken, waar je meer te weten komt over de gruweldaden van de Turken tegen de Serviërs en je een uniek monument zult zien ter ere van de opoffering van de Servische revolutionairen.
Om 15.00 uur rijden we naar het concentratiekamp Niš - een klein maar zeer authentiek concentratiekamp dat door de Duitsers is opgezet tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog om Joden, Roma's en andere minderheden gevangen te nemen en te vermoorden. We vertrekken rond 16:00 uur terug naar Sofia en verwachten rond 18:30 uur aan te komen.
Bezoek stadssites, waaronder het fort van Nis met verschillende opgegraven gebieden uit de Romeinse tijd, maak kennis met vondsten uit het gebied van Nis daterend uit 6000 v. momenteel gesloten voor restauraties).

Interesting because you learnt a litle bit about Serbia anb former Yugoeslavia, and you located the roman site of Mediana from wich I personally never have heart befote this trip. Beautiful mosaics really well explained for our guide Giorguios. We were only three people on the trip and our driver-guide did an excellent work trying to explain us the incredible mass of the Balkanik history, full of continous wars. Really good driver and also good in his advices of where to have lunch. The pity is that the city is not specially nice. .
A wonderful first glance at Serbian life. This is a great tour to learn a condensed version of the history of Serbia, our guide Georgi, was really knowledgeable and happy to answer all our questions. He had not only a great historical knowledge, but also about the language, which I really loved. Highly recommend!
It's more of a half-day visit than a full-day one. We crossed the border early enough not to wait more than an hour (with European passports, of course). We were back in Sofia by around 5 PM. There are several places to see, but since they are all very small, it goes by very quickly. This means that you can end up with extra time.
Very interesting trip to NIS. Relatively a lot of time in the car, but that is simply due to the distance and not a hidden flaw. The guide was very competent and answered all questions with great enthusiasm. NIS itself is nice, but not outstanding.
I learned about things in Serbian history that I was unaware of. The guide was knowledgeable, and the museums were worth the trip. It was a good mix of guided and free time. I think the 2 hour drive is well worth it for the experience.
Excursion from Sofia to Nis with a visit to the Constantin excavation, Skulltower, and concentration camp. Super organized. Michael was a good tour guide.
This was a well-designed tour to allow for a day trip experience to Serbia. The guide, Georgi, was knowledgeable and presented instructions and information clearly and in a timely way. With the small group size, we were able to move from place to place with ease. We were allowed ample time at Mediana, the Skull Tower, and the Red Cross Concentration Camp as well as a good amount of time for lunch and further independent exploration of the city center. I learned so much on this tour and would highly recommend it to other travelers.
It was very nice and informative, though very superficial. Of course, you can only do so much in one day.
It was great. Just long enough and just enough information. The tour was a great overview of Serbia and Niš. Michael was a great guide who gave great information and kept us informed of what to expect along the tour.
