Nairobi is de thuisbasis van tientallen ongelooflijke sites en deze dagtour toont een aantal van de beste van deze Oost-Afrikaanse stad. Je geniet van een lunch in een lokaal restaurant en stopt dan in het Karen Bixen Museum of Bomas of Kenya, waar je meer te weten komt over de geschiedenis, cultuur en tradities van Kenia's diverse mensen. De tour eindigt met een bezoek aan het Giraffe Centre, waar je de kans krijgt om meer te weten te komen over de bedreigde Rothschild-giraf en te zien hoe er grote inspanningen worden gedaan om dit sierlijke dier te beschermen.

Het Giraffe Centre bevindt zich in Lang'ata, ongeveer 20 kilometer van het centrum van Nairobi, Kenia. Het werd opgericht om de bedreigde giraf te beschermen, die alleen voorkomt in de graslanden van Oost-Afrika. In 1979 werd het Giraffe Centre, een natuurreservaat voor het bezoeken en inclusief onderwijs voor natuurbehoud voor stedelijke schoolkinderen, opgericht door Jock Leslie Melville, de Keniaanse kleinzoon van een Schotse graaf, toen hij en zijn vrouw Betty twee babygiraf gevangen namen om een programma van het fokken van giraffen op hun eigendom in Langata, site van het huidige centrum. Sindsdien heeft het programma een enorm succes gehad, wat heeft geleid tot de introductie van verschillende fokparen Rothschild Giraffe in Keniaanse nationale parken. Tegen 1983 was voldoende geld ingezameld om het Giraffe Visitor's Centre als een toeristische bestemming net buiten Nairobi te vestigen. De belangrijkste attractie voor zowel schoolkinderen als bezoekers is het voeden van giraffen vanaf een verhoogd observatieplatform. Het giraffencentrum is ook de thuisbasis van verschillende wrattenzwijnen die vrij rondlopen in het gebied samen met de giraffen.
Dit is de prachtige boerderij waar Karen Blixen, auteur van Out of Africa, tussen 1914 en 1931 woonde, totdat ze Kenia verliet na een reeks persoonlijke tragedies.

Exellent trip, car was ok. And driver/guide wery skilled and eager to please the customers. I was quite happy with the animals in Nairobi National park, exceeding my expectations. Being danish means that a trip to the Karen Blixen museum is a must. I Will definately recommend this trip😁

The tour with Alex my guide was the one to remember I did a lot of game drives in my life but never in my life have I spotted so many lions in my life… this is a trip to remember for the rest of my life. Feeding Giraffes was a very pleasant experience and I would recommend this company for any future tour you wish to do.

Very much enjoyed this tour, especially the bead-making workshop. This is a wonderful initiative to help women earn an income and support their families. We bought several items of jewellery. The giraffe centre and feeding the giraffes was great but our visit was very short. Visiting Karen Blixen's home and museum was very special for me and the young intern who guided us was the source of excellent information, friendly with a very happy nature.

The sights on this tour are amazing and worthwhile. This tour however is poorly emrun and expensive. The high price does not include the entry fees at each site. I was also required to pay these before the tour started using the Kenyan Government portal. This was not advised to me or any other members of the tour. I also had to insist on going to the Karen Blixen House, even though it’s in the tour title!

George was such a fantastic guide! He made sure we had a good breakfast and took us to Nairobi National Park early. He took care of all the park fees and advised us of the price so we could pay him later on. He seemed to know exactly where to go to find the animals and knew a lot of interesting facts! He showed us very close experiences of giraffe, zebra, lions (male and female), rhinos, impala, and several other creatures. We got tons of great pictures, and George was extremely kind and patient. I loved it and felt very comfortable as a lone female traveler. The only thing that was mildly confusing was George was not the first person to pick me up. Another gentleman came to get me before the tour with George and took me there. So, I would just advise asking specifically how they are going to pick a person up when you book it so it's clear and one can feel confident. I absolutely loved it, and it is 10,000% worth it!
