De Gids ontmoet u bij de VVV-balie op de begane grond van Terminal 1 of Terminal 2. Nadat we zijn opgehaald bij uw hotel in het centrum van Tokio, nemen we een beperkte express trein naar Sakura Station, waarna we overstappen op een lokale trein naar Narita. Laten we genieten van een aangename treinrit van 1 uur! (Als u Narita Airport als uw opstapplaats kiest, brengt de Gids u met de lokale trein naar Narita Station. De rit duurt ongeveer 10 minuten.)
Narita is een stad in de prefectuur Chiba, ongeveer 70 kilometer ten oosten van Tokio. De stad is beroemd om zijn historische en uitgestrekte boeddhistische tempel, Naritasan Shinshoji Tempel. Nadat we uit de trein zijn gestapt, genieten we van een aangename wandeling van 15 minuten naar de tempel. Het smalle pad dat er naartoe leidt is omzoomd met vele traditionele gebouwen in Japanse stijl, en biedt een charmant kijkje in het oude Japan.
De boeddhistische tempel heeft een geschiedenis van meer dan 1000 jaar en trekt jaarlijks meer dan 10 miljoen aanbidders uit heel Japan. De belangrijkste godheid die hier verankerd is, is Fudō Myōō, waarvan gezegd wordt dat hij gecreëerd is door Kūkai, de beroemde boeddhistische monnik die de Shingon-sekte in Japan oprichtte. Het tempelterrein is voorzien van vele prachtige houten structuren, rijk aan traditionele architectuur. U kunt ook getuige zijn van het Goma-daki ritueel, een heilige vuurceremonie waarbij monniken houten stokken verbranden als offer terwijl ze krachtige sutra's chanten, waardoor een diep spirituele sfeer ontstaat.
Een uitgestrekt park ligt op de heuvel achter de Naritasan Shinshoji Tempel. Met zijn prachtige beken en vijvers genesteld in het bos, het creëert een zeer serene en rustige sfeer.
Na het verkennen van de tempel en het park, laten we genieten van wat lokale gerechten in een restaurant langs de hoofdstraat. Met name unagi (zoetwaterpaling) is een lokale specialiteit in dit gebied. De paling wordt gesudderd en vervolgens gegrild, geglazuurd met een speciale zoete saus op basis van sojasaus en geserveerd over gestoomde rijst — het is absoluut heerlijk! (lunch is optioneel)
De Gids begeleidt u terug naar de luchthaven vanaf Narita Station.

Pickup and drop off at the Narita Airport. We used lockers at airport for luggage. Quick trip on metro into Narita. Tour of Buddhist Temple and surrounding gardens. Walkthrough town with ability to purchase souvenirs (high quality shops) and we opted to stop and eat. Eel is a local specialty and did not disappoint. Yuki, our tour guide, was so wonderful. Perfect way to spend a few hours prior to evening takeoff.

Hiromi not only showed me the sites of Narita, she helped me experience them. Through sake tasting, presenting offerings at the Shinto Temple, participating in the Buddhist Ceremony and finding a great place to eat eel all gave me a taste and feel of Japan. Our tour of the temple was truly amazing. Walking the streets of Narita to get to the temple took us back in time and once entering the temple the beauty of the temples and the grounds were inspiring. The buddhist ceremony at the main temple was moving and sharing it with all of the other parishoners and tourists moved us. And beyond all of this, our tour guide, Yoshi, was magnificent. He is down to earth, professional and personable and extremely knowledgeable. He even helped guide me to some shops to pick out gifts for family and friends on the way back to the train station. This tour and having Yoshi as a guide is not to be missed. We would absolutely recommend! We hope to visit again and do another tour with Yoshi.
