The Night Tour Refuge is een lichte wandeling van 2 uur op zoek naar de wezens van de nacht, aanbevolen voor iedereen die dieren in het wild wil zien, zoals luiaards, gordeldieren, stekelvarkens, opossums, neusbeertjes, olingo's en kinkajous, evenals slapende vogels en een grote verscheidenheid aan insecten, onder andere. El Refugio is een bevoorrechte plek om vogelsoorten te zien, zoals slapende toekans, motten en zwarte guans; boomtopdieren zoals apen, neusberen, olingo's, luiaards, kikkers, slangen en een grote verscheidenheid aan insecten. Tijdens een typische tour zie je 3-5 soorten zoogdieren, 5-10 soorten vogels, een paar slangen of kikkers en vele soorten insecten. Dit is de grootste verscheidenheid aan dieren die je tijdens een andere nachtelijke tour in het gebied zult zien. Je sluit je aan bij een groep van vier tot zes personen met een lokale gids, die je een introductie en zaklampen geeft voordat je aan de wandeling door de paden van El Refugio begint. De plaatsen zijn beperkt, dus je moet van tevoren reserveren.

Jairo was a great guide! We saw snakes, scorpions, spiders, owls, frogs, golden beetles, etc. He knew exactly how to find all of the different critters in the forest. I would have to say that doing a Night Tour was the tour that stood out to me the most and I would highly recommend it!
Deyber was an outstanding tour guide and truly made the experience unforgettable. His knowledge of wildlife—everything from animals and insects to plants—was incredibly impressive. What really set him apart was his ability to spot birds and other creatures that most tourists would completely miss. Our guide, Eliar, seemed to have a sixth sense about where all the critters and tree dwellers would be. Experience mixed with communication amongst fellow guides, but still, we found and got great pictures of many animals. A scorpion (RIP) that shows up very bright under a UV light, tiny frogs and green vipers, a two-toed sloth, a couple beautiful toucans, a kinkajou, a cappucin monkey, and a few other spiders and beetles. My family and I had a great time, and Eliar was good-natured, funny, and very knowledgeable.

Deyber was the best! Not only was he knowledgeable about all the flora and fauna, he helped us find transportation and accommodated our group of 9. Made our Monteverde experience! He provided us a luxury van for transport. At the reserve, he gave us flashlights and with his telescope, he pointed out hummingbirds, frogs, insects, two!! toucans, and a sloth mama and baby! And more!! The tarantula was so cool! There were so many animals - we felt so lucky to see them and Deyber knew all about their lives and stories! Our group loved the night walk - must do in Costa Rica!

Our guide, Enar, was extremely knowledgeable. It was a really cool experience being in the forest at night surrounded by animals that you would never see without the help of the guide.

Guide was knowledgeable and group was limited to 8. But the location has lots of tours going on and the beginning of the tour was crowded with several groups in the same area. Need better coordination between the guides.

I absolutely loved this tour! Rafael gave us a generous amount of time and found: green vipers, a tarantula, a wolf spider, a leaf insect and a moss insect, blue morpho eggs, a scorpion, a kinkajou, a paca, several frogs, and some sleeping birds (mot-mots, a bellbird, a brown jay, and a hummingbird). He was friendly, patient, and knowledgeable, concerned for our safety, and he made sure everyone had seen and photographed each find before we moved on. The refuge is large and varied enough to accommodate many small groups without bumping into one another or seeing their lights all the time. Note that in addition to the tour you will also have to pay admission to the refuge.
