Mylapore verkennen: Een culturele & historische wandeltocht
Beschrijving
Tijdens deze wandeling bezoekt u de tempel in het gezelschap van onze deskundige gids. We zullen ook door de omliggende gebieden lopen, waar je Mylapore in al zijn drukke chaos kunt zien. De juweliers, zijdehandelaren, fruit- en groenteverkopers en de bloemenverkopers in de bazaars zorgen voor een kleurrijk decor voor de tempel. De wandeling voert ons door kleine straatjes met huizen in oude stijl, langs zijdewinkels, winkels die muziek en religieuze memorablia verkopen, ‘kutcheri’-auditoriums, enz. Bezoek de Kapaleeshwara-tempel, de Santhome-kerk en loop door de zijstraten van Mylapore tijdens deze 3-uur durende tour. De tour is grotendeels te voet met een kort stuk in een auto-riksja (lokale tuk-tuk) die is geregeld en inbegrepen in de tour en eindigt met Zuid-Indiase versnaperingen.

De Chennai wandeling vindt plaats in Mylapore, een oud gebied met verslagen die teruggaan tot de 1e eeuw na Christus. Het is een land van vele goden! Onze wandeling begint bij de Kapaaleswar Tempel, de meest gerenommeerde tempel in Mylapore. Deze tempel dient als het hart van Mylapore, en onze gids zal de fascinerende rituelen ontrafelen die er plaatsvinden.
We bezoeken het Ramakrishna-klooster en de Universele Tempel, gewijd aan een van India's meest invloedrijke filosofen. Onze culturele gids zal dieper ingaan op zijn belangrijke bijdragen aan de Indiase filosofie en zijn geloof in de eenheid van religies. Hij speelde een sleutelrol in het overbruggen van de oude en moderne wereld.
De wandeltocht in Chennai brengt ons naar de hoofdkerk van het rooms-katholieke aartsbisdom Madras & Mylapore. Binnen in de prachtige neogotische basiliek zult u betoverd zijn door zijn schoonheid. Het heiligdom herbergt een klein reliek van bot en de lans die in het jaar 52 door Saint Thomas heen stak, wat echt het hoogtepunt van deze Chennai-wandeling is.

Great tour of Mylapore with a friendly and knowledgeable guide! I would not have understood most of what I was seeing in the temple without him, and the coffee and snacks we got at a local spot were a good chance to talk and for me to ask questions about local life. Great value for the cost!

We booked this tour for our first day in India to find out more about history, culture and religion. Rajesh met us on time and gave us an excellent tour of the Mylapore area. He was very knowledgeable about all of the sights we visited and we learnt a lot from him, especially about Hinduism. He took us to a cafe for delicious coffee and snacks and this was also a great opportunity to chat to him and he was very happy to answer all of our questions. Following the tour Rajesh was also really helpful in organising a driver for us to visit Mahibalipuram and go on to our next stop in Pondicherry at a very reasonable price.
