Deze tour wordt geleid door een lokale kunstenaar die ook een muzikant en architect is, wonend in het hart van Mostar's street art scene. Met diepe wortels in de creatieve gemeenschap biedt hij meer dan alleen inzicht - hij deelt geleefde ervaringen. Tijdens de muurschilderingen in zijn eigen buurt bracht hij tijd door met collega-kunstenaars, waarbij hij tussen schildersessies door verhalen en ideeën uitwisselde. Gasten zien niet alleen muurschilderingen — ze horen ook de verhalen erachter. Dit is niet zomaar een rondleiding — het is een uitnodiging voor Mostar's levende, ademende straatcultuur.

Echo's van elegantie en verval Hotel Neretva is een van de architectonische pareltjes van Mostar en is onlangs gerestaureerd om de oorspronkelijke Oostenrijks-Hongaarse elegantie te weerspiegelen. Eens achtergelaten in ruïnes na de oorlog, stond het jarenlang als een symbool van vernietiging — vaak omringd door rauwe graffiti en informele street art.
Als je voor deze gevels staat, hoor je verhalen over de kunstenaars erachter, het creatieve proces en wat het betekent om elke dag tussen deze kunst te leven — inclusief persoonlijke herinneringen van toen deze muurschilderingen werden gemaakt en de tijd die we met de kunstenaars doorbrachten tijdens hun pauzes.
OKC Abrašević is niet zomaar een locatie — het is een levend cultureel centrum. Omgeven door rauwe stedelijke texturen en experimentele muurschilderingen, is deze ruimte lange tijd een ontmoetingsplaats geweest voor jonge creatievelingen, activisten en kunstenaars.
Het elegante Oostenrijks-Hongaarse Mostar Gymnasium weerspiegelt het multiculturele verleden van de stad, terwijl nabijgelegen graffiti en stencils laten zien hoe jonge kunstenaars de ruimte vandaag terugwinnen. Je ziet ook het Monument voor de Spaanse Strijders en hoort hoe dit gebied evolueerde — van verdeeldheid in oorlogstijd tot een ruimte van expressie, protest en stille reflectie.

I had booked this street art tour, and an old town private walking tour for the same day. When I met my guide, Mak, turns out it was only me on both tours, and so we set off for several hours of fascinating insight into local history, culture, street art, and so much more. As he lives in the neighborhood where many of the street art pieces are located, Mak has met several of the artists and clearly has a deep appreciation for this style of art. I also gained more context and nuance around the war, as well as the lived experience in post-Communist Herzegovina, and we veered into discussion around politics, education, cost of living and so much more about our two countries. Truly, this tour and my experience talking to Mak was the highlight of my time in BiH, and I can't recommend it highly enough. Thank you, Mak!!
Wow highlight of my Mostar trip. I would super highly recommend. You will learn the history behind each piece of art. Feel like you are in the artist mind and the soul of Bosnia. Just a super worthwhile tour. If you only do one thing in Mostar besides old town. Don’t miss this.
