De meeste reizigers denken Montevideo gezien te hebben na een wandeling langs de Rambla en een bezoek aan de belangrijkste pleinen. Maar wat als ik je zou vertellen dat de ware ziel van de stad zich verschuilt in zijn rustige straten, kleurrijke buurten en verhalen die alleen een local kan delen? Op verkenning alleen al mis je gemakkelijk de lagen van de geschiedenis en de kleine details die Montevideo zijn unieke karakter geven. Je zou kunnen denken dat je het allemaal hebt gezien, terwijl de beste geheimen van de stad verborgen blijven. Onze wandeltocht in Montevideo onthult het allemaal. Bezoek de plek waar je Uruguay’s heerlijke gerechten kunt vinden, waar de lokale bevolking samenkomt voor gegrild vlees en zeevruchten.
Bezoek het historische plein waar Uruguay in 1825 zijn onafhankelijkheid uitriep, omringd door belangrijke overheidsgebouwen.
Ga staan op de plek waar Uruguay zijn nationale held Jose Artigas eert met een mausoleum onder zijn ruiterstandbeeld.
Er zijn nog een paar stops onderweg, maar die houden we als verrassing om je ervaring nog specialer te maken.
Wandel over het plein dat in 1890 werd gecreëerd op de plaats van het voormalige Spaanse fort, waar een standbeeld van Bruno Mauricio de Zabala in het midden staat en de lay-out een geometrisch Frans geïnspireerd ontwerp volgt.
Sta op het oudste openbare plein van de stad, aangelegd in 1726, waar een centrale fontein uit 1871 drinkwater leverde en waar de eerste kathedraal van Montevideo in de buurt werd gebouwd.
Observeer het uitvoerend hoofdkwartier dat in 2009 werd ingehuldigd naast Plaza Independencia, waar de kantoren van de president van Uruguay en de Raad van Ministers zijn gevestigd.
Zie de overgebleven poort die in 1742 werd gebouwd als onderdeel van de Spaanse vestingwerken, die overeind bleef nadat de stadsmuren in 1829 werden afgebroken en nu de ingang van de oude stad markeert.

This was a warm, friendly, informative - fabulous way to learn about Montevideo … yesterday I did the board brush Touriste bus…. Today felt like a personal guided tour-to my taste of this city: old and new. Thank you Oscar for your sharing and stories, you made this a very special memory.
Very good informative tour - Oscar was an excellent guide
Oscar was my guide and he was very informative and passionate about Uruguaian history. It was only me so I got a private tour. We walked through the old city and then walked down the big city avenue and up a tall govt building for a panoramic view. Not sure I’d call this tour “hidden gems”, but it was nice to see Montevideo in this quick tour. It was also Sunday so pretty much everything was closed and less to see so be aware if you book a weekend. This is something nice to do if you’re looking to fill some time or are short on time.

This was one of the best walking tours I’ve done. Oscar is an amazing guide, truly knowledgeable, having a genuine love for the city and its history. It didn’t feel like a conventional, commercial tourist tour at all, but rather like walking around the city with a very knowledgeable friend. Our tour guy Oscar showed a genuine love for Montevideo. He demonstrated a great knowledge of the history and the architecture of the city, pointing out places of interest. His pace was good as we moved through the city. He was very professional and would highly recommend it.
I had 24 hours in Montevideo and wanted to find a way to learn about the city in my limited time. This is a great tour if you want a quick but still detailed way to learn about Montevideo and its history. The walking was also nice. Oscar was a great tour guide and very knowledgeable. Most importantly, he’s just a good person with a good heart. I would definitely recommend him and the tour.
Oscar my Cuban tour guide was especially knowlegeable of Montevideo and its history. We spoke in both English and Spanish. He has stories about Uruguay and his departure from Cuba and the authoritarian rule. I was impressed by his astute understanding of the culture.
A good little walking tour through the heart of the city by Oscar who was approachable and knowledgeable. I'm not sure we saw that many "hidden gems" but it was a nice way to see a bit more of the city.
