Pune is een stad met een zeer rijk cultureel erfgoed dat je het beste kunt ervaren tijdens een wandeltocht. Tijdens deze wandeltocht bezoeken we Shaniwarwada, het spookfort en de zetel van de macht van de Peshwas, de prachtige Lal Mahal gebouwd door de vader van Shivaji Maharaj, de Dagdu Sheth-tempel van Lord Ganesh gebouwd door een zoete meetmaker, Kasba Ganpati wiens idool werd geïnstalleerd door Shivaji Maharaj en Laxmi brengen de populaire bazaar op de markt voor koopjes.

We starten de wandeltocht op Shaniwar Wada, de zetel van de macht van de Peshwas of premiers van het machtige Maratha-rijk dat tussen de 17e en 19e eeuw een dominante macht in India was. Dit paleis werd in 1730 gebouwd ter ere van Peshwa Bajirao Ballal Balaji Bhat voor diensten bewezen aan het Maratha-rijk. Shaniwarwada wordt beschouwd als de meest spookachtige plaats in Pune! Dagdu Sheth, is een tempel gewijd aan Lord Ganesh en misschien wel de meest bekende in Pune. Een zoete maker die zijn zoon verloor van de pest bouwde deze tempel in 1892. De tempel speelde een cruciale rol bij het inspireren van Lokmanya Tilaorganizeanize het jaarlijkse Ganesh-festival om Indianen te verenigen om voor de vrijheid van de Britten te vechten.
We lopen door Laxmi Market, de haven voor shoppers! We bezoeken leuke winkeltjes in de beroemdste bazaar en rommelmarkt van Pune. Het is toepasselijk vernoemd naar de Hindoeïstische godin van rijkdom. 130PM- Drop off op de Laxmi-markt.
De geschiedenis komt tot leven in deze iconische tempel. Het idool van Ganesh werd in 1630 door niemand minder dan Shivaji Maharaj en zijn moeder Jija bai geïnstalleerd. De tempel is de presiderende godheid van de stad Pune en heeft het voorrecht van de eerste onderdompeling tijdens het Ganpati-festival.
Lal Mahal of het Rode Paleis werd in 1630 opgericht door Shahaji Bhosle, de vader van Shivaji Maharaj. Het staat bekend om de ontmoeting tussen Shivaji Maharaj en Shaista Khan. Terwijl het oorspronkelijke gebouw in verval raakte, is het huidige gebouw een reconstructie en heeft het olieverfschilderijen die belangrijke gebeurtenissen in het leven van Shivaji Maharaj weergeven.

Dhruv was such a great teacher. He tied in the geography of Pune with the history of its people, religion, architecture, food and so much more. He tailored the tour to my interests and was a master of dates and places. I had an amazing day and would 100% recommend this tour.

Ajit was great—he was friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed the tour and it was a great introduction to Pune. I didn’t know when I signed up that I would have my own guide (I thought it would be a group tour) so that was a surprise. It was also nice to be picked up at my hotel since I had just arrived and didn’t know my way around yet.

I enjoyed the cultural walking tour with Pankaj. He's very knowledge about the sites and history of the people and places that we are visiting. He introduced me to delicious snacks and drinks, he is communicative and on time. He even stayed behind to ensure that I got into the uber I ordered before we parted way. The forts & temples we visited are great example of the local history.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Ajit. He is a highly knowledgeable guide and we learned a great deal during our visit. Our 'three hour' tour lasted longer than that, because we were extremely interested in what he was telling us and showing us. At the end we asked him to point us in the direction of a nice south Indian restaurant: Wadeshwar was a perfect conclusion to our morning. Highly recommended

The tour was absolutely brilliant. Ajit sir was so passionate about these places in Pune that it rubbed off on us. He knew the history and told us everything from start to beginning while taking us through the tour. A genuine joy to take this tour. Made our pune trip sooo worth it.
