Materuni-watervallen en koffietour in Moshi
Beschrijving
Genesteld in de lappendeken van de magnifieke Kilimanjaro ligt het mooie dorp Materuni, de thuisbasis van onze Chagga-vrienden en beroemd om zijn aromatische, rijke koffie. Op dit geurige en leuke dagje uit loop je de korte maar uitdagende route naar de Materuni-watervallen en kun je onder het water staan terwijl het in een kalm zwembad stroomt dat veilig is om in te zwemmen. En je wilt er meteen in springen - nadat je bezweet (oké, gloeiend) bent geworden van je wandeling, is er niets rustgevender dan drijven in het koele water van de Kilimanjaro-berg. Op weg naar/van de watervallen krijg je de kans om in een lokale bar te gaan om bananenwijn/bier te testen. Vervolgens krijg je de kans om je eigen kopje koffie op de juiste manier te zetten en ontdek je het geheim van het perfecte kopje koffie van de lokale Chagga-bevolking. Geniet van je lokale warme lunch, dan nemen we afscheid en gaan we terug naar de stad Moshi van deze gedenkwaardige ervaring!

U wordt 's ochtends opgehaald in Moshi of uw opgegeven locatie door onze chauffeur, die u naar Materuni Village brengt. Bij aankomst meldt u zich bij het dorpskantoor en uw reis kan beginnen. Eerst bezoekt u de watervallen, die op ongeveer 35 minuten lopen liggen. Onderweg zal je gids je informeren over de cultuur van de Chagga, het dorpsleven en uitleg geven over de omliggende fauna en flora. De uitzichten zijn werkelijk adembenemend en met een beetje geluk zie je de top van de Kilimanjaro. Het zwembad onderaan de waterval is een uitnodigende plek voor een verfrissende duik, dus vergeet je zwemkleding niet! Nadat je van het landschap hebt genoten, keer je langzaam terug met je gids naar een traditioneel huis waar je een traditionele Chagga-lunch zult ervaren. Vervolgens wacht de koffie-ervaring op u. Hier leer je hoe koffie wordt verbouwd, gedroogd, gebrand en verder verwerkt en maak je je eigen kopje koffie en drankje. Daarna beginnen we aan de rit terug naar je hotel in Moshi.

I really enjoyed the tour. The Guild were really nice and explained everything really well. We started with a nice Scenic route up the mountain. Visited a local farm and learned everything about coffee. I made my own coffee from the beans whilst the local people were singing and dancing. Witch was amazing. After this we had a nice hike to the waterfall witch was beautiful. Definitely worth it. The lunch was delicious.
An essential tour if you are in Moshi. Nick is a very professional local guide and Materuni local guides as well. You will spend an unforgettable day

Thanks Nick for a great tour. We ground and made our own coffee the way the local do it, before getting to drink it. After hiking up to the waterfront and back we were treated to a tasty lunch. This felt like an authentic experience and contributes to the local people. No pressure. Nothing was rushed. A great day.
A big thanks to Nick and guide OZ for making this tour memorable. We first stopped off at a village in the foothills where the locals grow their own coffee shrubs. The process from berry to cup was shown along with singing and dancing. Then we hiked up to the waterfall listening to Africa by Toto and Queens Bohemian Rhapsody( Freddie Mercury was of course born in Zanzibar). Then back to the village for a traditional lunch with Banana beer. Nick and his partners go the extra mile to make sure you have a special experience to remember. I started out as a customer and left Tanzania with Nick as good friend for life.
This was amazing, the walk, the views and if you love coffee, you must do this trip. We learned also a lot about the people and plants there, and lunch was great!
Excellent guide. The coffee experience was informative and engaging. The waterfall is beautiful and a nice day hike. It’s a great tour for people about to head out on the Kilimanjaro trek.
Nick is very punctual and helpful and speaks very good English. He knows and explains a lot. His tours are always well organized including lunch with the locals. Try not to lure you into shops after the tour to buy souvenirs or similar as many other guides. Highly recommended.
We chose with nick which itinerary was best suited to us. We preferred to see the Materuni waterfalls and took us there on the first day combined with the coffee tour. The second day we wanted to visit the chagga village and after relax and take a bath at the chemka hotsprings. Nick is very helpful and explains a lot of things along the way. Driving very safe also because it is in the mood of the pole pole area (slowly). Recommended

Spent a great day in Materuni and the Hotsprings! Stunning nature along the hike and a very friendly and knowledgeable guide who answered all my questions and explained a lot! Also, nice experience to discover local coffee production and and a delicious lunch. The weather wasn’t too great at first, but the gloomy atmosphere gave it a beautiful vibe and it didn’t matter at all! Asante sana!
