Tussen traditie en moderniteit belooft Marrakech onvergetelijke sensaties. De rode stad zorgt voor een totale verandering van omgeving terwijl je door het Jemaa El-Fna-plein en de soeks met hun glinsterende kleuren en exotische geuren slentert. De districten Gueliz en Hivernage hebben de modernste infrastructuur, luxe winkels en buitenlandse confectiewinkels en brede lanen.

Geniet vanuit je hotel in Casablanca van een pick-up in het goed uitgeruste voertuig met airconditioning. Je passeert de grootste moskee die boven het water is gebouwd met de hoogste minaret ter wereld op 210 meter. Na een totaal transport van 3 uur, de beste manier om de stad Marrakech te ontdekken
De grote oase gelegen aan de rand van de stad Marrakech, heeft een oppervlakte van 140 vierkante KM. Het staat bekend om zijn resorts en honderdduizend palmbomen. Iedereen kan genieten van het uitzicht op deze bezienswaardigheden, en ook van een kameelrit.
Na een rit van 20 minuten komen we langs bij Jardin Majorelle. Dit is een landschapstuin van één hectare, die meer dan 40 jaar door de Franse oriëntalistische kunstenaar Jaques Majorelle is aangelegd en beschikt over een kubistische villa die is ontworpen als de residentie van de kunstenaar en zijn vrouw van 1930 tot 1950. Nu zijn de tuin en de villacomplex zijn open voor het publiek.
In ongeveer 10 tot 15 minuten zijn we bij de Koutoubia-moskee. Het is een religieuze constructie gebouwd in de 12e eeuw in Marrakech met zijn architectuur en inrichting die de kunst van de Almohaden weerspiegelen. Het is ook de grootste moskee en het essentiële herkenningspunt van de stad.

Bab Agnaou is een van de bekendste poorten in de stad Marrakech, het was de hoofdingang van de Koninklijke Kasbah. Het werd gebouwd door de Almohaden kalief Yaqub Al Mansour in de 12e eeuw.
Om The Mellah in Marrakech te bereiken, duurt het 15 minuten rijden. Dit werd opgericht in 1557, het staat bekend om zijn smalle steegjes en heeft ook een essentieel herkenningspunt, de Lazama-synagoge. Kortom, het was het gebied waar Joden vroeger in hun eigen aparte wijk woonden, wat betekende dat ze werden beschermd door de Kasbah-muren.
We maken een rit van 5 minuten naar het Bahia-paleis, een 19e-eeuws gebouw, het bestaat uit vele ingerichte kamers met schilderijen, mozaïeken en ook een reeks tuinen. Het paleis was bedoeld als het grootste paleis van zijn tijd en om de essentie van de islamitische en Marokkaanse stijlen vast te leggen.
Neem nog eens 15 minuten om in de oude medina van Marrakech te zijn, die bekend staat om zijn smalle steegjes en beroemde markten met traditionele artikelen.
Na een rit van 5 minuten zijn we bij de Samarin-markt. Het is de meest bekende omdat het grenst aan het belangrijkste plein, Jemaa el Fna, en gemakkelijk toegankelijk is voor toeristen en nieuwkomers in Marrakech. Zoals de naam al aangeeft in het Arabisch, vervingen klanten hier vroeger de schoenen van hun muilezels en ezels. Het is nu een wirwar van gangen die de wonderen van Marokkaans handwerk tentoonstellen. Specerijen, parfums, pantoffels, keramiek, koper, tapijten, topartikelen, kaftans en meer zijn te zien.
En tot slot zijn we in ongeveer 15 minuten bij het ruime gebied van Gueliz. Dit is een straat in Franse stijl, omringd met uitstekende Marokkaanse en Europese restaurants, verfijnde cabaretacts en bars, kunstgalerijen en modieuze winkels. Ontworpen door de gelijknamige schilder en later aangekocht door Yves Saint Laurent.
Maak nog een rit van 10 minuten naar het plein van Jamaa El Fnaa. Het is een beroemd openbaar plein in Marrakech en Marokko, deze traditionele en populaire plek trekt jaarlijks 1 miljoen bezoekers. De plaats belichaamt de verscheidenheid aan Marokkaanse identiteiten vanwege de aanwezigheid van vertegenwoordigers van verschillende Marokkaanse culturen.
The Secret Garden is een verborgen oase in de medina, met weelderig groen, levendige bloemen en ingewikkelde architectuur. Het is een rustig toevluchtsoord met afgelegen binnenplaatsen, fonteinen en een boeiende mix van natuur en Marokkaans design, en biedt een rustig toevluchtsoord in het hart van de stad.

It is a good excursion! We were picked up from hotel in the morning. The car journey took about 3 hours. The local guide looked after us and both camel ride and carriage were of fun. Lunch was delicious and authentic. The only note is that Marrakech is significantly hotter than Casablanca. So, get yourself prepared and you will enjoy this trip.

We had a great time in Marrakesh. Our guide was very knowledgeable and great. The only issue was the transportation. Although the driver was good he drove 20km below speed limit. Our drive could have been an hour shorter 😩😩

Nice and easy 2 hour drive to and from Marachesh from Casablanca. The Marachesh guide throughout the souk walk was great. It's a very, very large souk so, probably, best to tell the guide in advance how long a walk you want in advance, eg 3 hrs or 4. Nice choice for a late lunch.

What a truly fantastic trip to Marrakech! We easily met up with our driver Hamza who spoke limited English but he was absolutely lovely and easy to communicate with through WhatsApp. Hamza was also very accommodating since we were trying to get a bite to eat before heading out on our tour so we needed a little extra time, and he offered to pick us up at the restaurant. The car was very comfortable and clean and the 2-hour drive to Marrakech flew by as we chatted, napped and relaxed. We stopped and rode camels with a lovely man who dressed us in local garb and then made camels out of plants for each of us as he led us through the desert (see picture below)! When we arrived, we met up with our guide Youssef who seamlessly led us through the history of the city, took us to the best place for lunch in the Jewish quarter, taught us how to barter, brought us to the best most authentic shops, and helped us get pictures with a snake charmer and his snakes! Youssef even volunteered to ensure that our purchases were shipped to the U.S., when we placed an order at a leather store! It seemed like everyone knew Youssef - so many people came up to say hello to him or give him a hug. Youssef ended the day for us at a delicious well-known cafe and then delivered us back to Hamza for the ride home. Youssef even helped arrange for us to be dropped at our lodging and Hamza readily agreed. We were tired but so happy we’d had such an incredible day. This was a truly Incredible and totally worthwhile tour. Me and my family truly had smiles the whole day,. Youssef was so knowledgeable and both Youssef and Hamza were so kind and trustworthy. This was truly a favorite!!
