Mustapha 35 spoke to us in Italian, making us believe that it was the only Berber market day in Marrakech. Initially he showed himself to be a good guide, but soon proved to be anything but. He took us to a so-called “women’s cooperative” shop, where there were only two women working argan. Inside the store, we were faced with an unscrupulous seller who, with a twist of phrase in Italian, made us try different cosmetics and in the end put a lot of pressure on us to buy the products. When we expressed interest only in small purchases, the seller was irritated, saying that we had wasted his time. The next day, in the same square, another guide stopped us, claiming that we were lucky to be there right “on the only day” the Berber market opened in the city. This made us realize that it was a repeated deception to convince tourists to buy cosmetics of dubious origin. In conclusion, Mustapha and the seller were clearly in agreement, claiming that they were paid by the government to show the beauties of Morocco, but in reality they turned out to be sneaky sellers.
