Our journey to Gansbaai began with packing Monkee, Dino, and many other little toys in anticipation of our overnight adventure to Marine Dynamics to encounter the spectacular Marine Big Five. Arriving as the last guests at Marine House, we were immediately met with the warmest of welcomes. After a long drive from Cape Town, the kindness, genuine care, and thoughtful attention shown to both us and little Blakey were incredibly reassuring and set the tone for what would be a memorable stay. With excitement building, we got togged up and made our way down to the harbour, ready to board our boat and embark on an unforgettable Marine Big Five experience. Janet, this is far more than a review; it's a story we'll treasure. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for capturing the heart of what we do so beautifully. It was a pleasure welcoming you, and we look forward to sharing another ocean adventure with you soon.
The whole experience was fantastic from start to finish, starting from a warm welcome at the Marine Dynamics office, where you get a quick assistance with the check in. Complimentary coffee and muffins before the briefing are a lovely touch, and the soup served afterwards is delicious and is very much needed after being out in the sea. The boat is well set up to ensure everyone has a good view of the ocean and the opportunity to spot wildlife. It feels expeditionary, yet very comfortable, safe and extremely educational, as guides are sharing lots of information during the tour. I also liked that every member of the team take the time to check in with guests individually, answer questions and make sure that everyone is comfortable and enjoying the tour. What really stands out is the company's commitment to conservation and the amount of work they do to protect the local marine environment and the community. We saw lots of sea life, including several humpback whales, penguins swimming, sharks, stingrays and the whole island of seals which is an incredible highlight. We bought a couple of penguin houses to support one of the conservation projects, and also poped in to the Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary after the tour, where you can meet rescue penguins and do some nice curio shopping. Overall - amazing experience, super professional team and amazing conservation efforts! Loved it all! Huge thank you to Marine Dynamics team
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. It means a lot to know you enjoyed every part of the experience, from the warm welcome ashore to the incredible wildlife encounters at sea. We're especially grateful for your kind words about our team and our conservation work, and thank you for supporting the penguin nest project too. We hope to welcome you back to Gansbaai for another adventure soon!
We did the Marine Big 5 Tour and it was an incredible experience! First, I must emphasize that the entire communication, organization, safety, and conservation efforts of this provider are outstanding. They really pay attention to everything. And then, on May 8th, 2026, we had the unbelievable luck to see penguins, sharks, seals, a humpback whale, and sunfish. We were already thrilled with the boat tour alone, but this surpassed everything. We are grateful and wish Marine Dynamics every success.
Dear 941almutr, Thank you so much for your incredible 5-star review! “The day of our life” is something truly special for our team to hear, and we are delighted that your Marine Big 5 Safari became such a memorable experience. Seeing penguins, sharks, seals, a humpback whale, and even a sunfish all on one trip is incredibly rare and a wonderful reminder of how extraordinary the Dyer Island ecosystem can be. Thank you as well for recognising our team’s efforts in communication, organisation, safety, and conservation. It was a truly memorable experience, I have never seen so many (types of) dolphins in my life! The staff on and off the boat were exceptional. Everyone was very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate every guest. The information provided from the guides on the boat was really good and informative. I can highly recommend this tour to everyone.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us and for the wonderful 5-star review. We’re delighted to hear that your Marine Big 5 Safari was such a memorable experience and that you were able to witness so many different dolphin sightings along the way. Moments like these are exactly why we love what we do along the coast here in Gansbaai. It’s also very rewarding to know that both our onshore and onboard teams made you feel welcomed and well looked after. Our guides will be especially pleased to hear that their interpretation added value to your journey out at sea. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back on board again in the future for more incredible encounters with the Marine Big 5. Warm regards, The Marine Dynamics Team
Amazing tour! Staff and crew are so informative and helpful. The boat is comfortable for any age (my 3 year old moved it!) and there is enough room to move around. From the meeting spot and safety briefing to the ending with warm soup, the entire trip is well thought out. Safety is a priority but spotting wildlife is what it's all about and boy did we get lucky with the marine big 5! The fact that it was a beautiful day and Marine Dynamics does research and conservation is a huge plus! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We had a great day out searching for the Marine Big 5 and found them all! The weather was perfect, so we are aware we were very luck in this respect - bright sunshine, clear skies and calm seas... although I would recommend preparing yourselves with sea-sickness meds as even in calm waters, you still bounce around a little. The whole set up is great, clear safety instructions, life vests and waterproof coats provided, commentary along the way with information on what we could see and a bowl of delicious soup on our return. if you're looking to tick the animals from the ocean off your list it's a great way to do it.
Thank you so much for your wonderful 5-star review! We’re thrilled to hear that you had such a fantastic day out on your Marine Big 5 Safari and even more excited that you were able to spot all five species — what an incredible experience! You were certainly treated to beautiful weather, and we’re glad it made your trip even more special. It’s great to know that you felt comfortable and well looked after onboard, from the safety briefing to the gear provided and the informative commentary from our team. And of course, we’re happy you enjoyed the warm soup out at sea — it’s always a guest favourite! Thank you as well for the helpful tip about sea-sickness medication, very valuable advice for future travellers. We truly appreciate you choosing Marine Dynamics and hope to welcome you back again for another ocean adventure in the future!
Great weather and an experience to talk about. Just a pitty we did not see dolphins.
Dear Christa, Thank you so much for your kind review and for joining us on the Marine Big 5 Safari. We’re delighted to hear that you had a great experience and enjoyed the beautiful weather out on the water. We completely understand your disappointment in not seeing dolphins on the day. As this is a true wildlife experience, sightings can never be guaranteed. Interestingly, just the day before your trip, we were fortunate to encounter two different species of dolphins along with large pods, which shows how quickly nature can change from one day to the next. We truly appreciate your understanding and hope to welcome you back again for another adventure — hopefully with even more incredible sightings next time. Kind regards, The Marine Dynamics Team
A great experience! The crew was very nice and attentive all around and also well prepared for seasickness and supportive in dealing with it (if you get seasick quickly, you should prepare in advance). The trip was worth it, we were able to watch dolphins joining the boat for a long time and then watch penguins and sea lions on their rock island. A clear recommendation, especially since the provider works ethically responsible and conducts a lot of research and educational work.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and kind recommendation! We are thrilled to hear that you had such a memorable experience with us and that our crew made you feel comfortable and well looked after throughout the trip. Ensuring our guests are supported — especially when it comes to seasickness — is very important to us, so we truly appreciate you mentioning this. It’s always special when dolphins choose to join the boat, and we’re delighted you also enjoyed seeing the penguins and seals on their island. Moments like these are what make each trip unique. Your recognition of our commitment to ethical practices, research, and education means a great deal to our entire team. Thank you for your support, and we hope to welcome you back again for another unforgettable Marine Big 5 adventure!
