We beginnen de tour bij de beroemde kathedraal van Palma, waar we onze wandeling door het gebied beginnen, waarbij we alle prachtige architectuur en geschiedenis in ons opnemen die deze glorieuze stad te bieden heeft!
We passeren een van de beroemdste bouwwerken in de stad, "Estatua Es Foner" of "El Hondero", wat zich vertaalt naar "The Swinger". Dit prachtige bouwwerk werd in 1992 geschonken door de beeldhouwer Jaume Mir. Jaume Mir was een van de meest prestigieuze Mallorcaanse beeldhouwers van de 20e eeuw en zijn werk en rigoureuze techniek is internationaal bekend.
We zullen doorgaan met het ontdekken van de "oude stad" van Palma terwijl we door deze prachtige tuinen wandelen! "S´hort del Rei" die zich vertaalt naar "The Kings Gardens" onder het Almudaina-paleis. In de 14e eeuw was dit gebied beperkt toegankelijk en stond het vol met fruitbomen, planten, groenten en kleurrijke bloemen. De huidige tuin is in de jaren 60 gerenoveerd door architect Gabriel Alomar. Alomar baseerde de renovatie van deze ruimte op traditionele Andalusische tuinen. Tegenwoordig heeft de tuin cipressen, fonteinen en een grote vijver. Profiteer hier van de geweldige fotomomenten en leg enkele foto's vast die een leven lang meegaan!
Hier hebben we de gelegenheid om langs een deel van de oude Romeinse muren te lopen die al die jaren geleden zijn gebouwd om de stad te beschermen. Je hebt vanaf hier een spectaculair uitzicht op het Almudaina-paleis en op andere delen van de stad!
Zodra we van de muren afkomen, stoppen we voor foto's buiten de kathedraal van Palma (La Seu), en horen we hoe de rooms-katholieke gebedsplaats werd gebouwd op de plaats van een oude Arabische moskee. Ga vervolgens naar binnen om de ronde glas-in-loodramen en door Gaudi ontworpen kenmerken te bewonderen. De kleurrijke en vaak controversiële modernistische kunstenaar heeft zijn stempel gedrukt op de site en zijn opvallende altaarstuk wordt beschouwd als het hoogtepunt van de kathedraal. Aangezien u deelneemt aan onze privérondleiding, hoeft u niet in lange rijen te wachten die zich ophopen bij de kathedraal (erg lang!).
Zodra we de rondleiding door de prachtige kathedraal hebben voltooid, kunt u de schoonheid bewonderen van het Koninklijk Paleis van La Almudaina, dat dateert uit de 14e eeuw. Het is de officiële residentie van Hunne Majesteiten de Koning en de Koningin tijdens hun verblijf op Mallorca. Samen met de kathedraal van Palma vormen ze een herkenningspunt van de hoofdstad van de Balearen. Een paleis dat de artistieke stijlen weerspiegelt die elkaar in de geschiedenis van het eiland hebben gevolgd.
Terwijl we door de prachtige oude stad van Palma blijven wandelen, komt u de Ayuntamiento de Palma tegen, gelegen aan de Plaza de Cort van Palma. Het werd tussen 1649 en 1680 gebouwd door de architecten Pere Bauçá, Miquel Oliver en Bartomeu Calafat. Enkele van de meest opvallende elementen op de gevel zijn het balkon met zeven grote ramen, de Rellotge d'en Figuera (Figuera-klok) en de Banc del si no fos (Bank of als je het niet mist). Het gebouw zelf werd bij decreet van 3 juni 1931 uitgeroepen tot historisch-artistiek monument.
Terwijl u geniet van het adembenemende uitzicht op de oude binnenstad van Palma en de historische architectuur, moet u de olijfboom Cort in de gaten houden! Deze unieke boom, bekend als de Olivera de Cort, werd in 1999 geplant in het Tramuntana-gebergte, als een symbool van vrede en geworteldheid in het land. Midden op het plein, recht voor het gemeentehuis, staat de Cort Olive Tree. Ondanks de verhuizing en zijn leeftijd blijft hij elk jaar zijn vruchten afwerpen.
Deze is voor de kunstliefhebbers! Een gebouw dat u gezien moet hebben, vanwege zijn kenmerken. De stilistische decoratie van de façade tot aan het interieurontwerp toont een sterke invloed van het Catalaanse modernisme, vooral sommige van Gaudí's werk - neem al zijn glorie in je op en pak de camera om deze momenten voor altijd te kunnen koesteren!

Really good trip to get an insight into the old town of Palma and a really good understanding of the cathedral. We had Luis as our guide and he was very good with explanations, pace and keeping us in the shade where he could. Would really recommend.

arrived in plenty of time , tour was only 1 hour instead of the 1.30 as described. you can learn what we were told on the web. disappointed. on the other hand guide was very nice . though some time hard to understand though it was in English

It lasted almost the full 90 minutes as advertised. In fact, while the guide was still with your group at 15:08, sharing additional recommendations for restaurants and places to visit in Palma after the official tour had finished, your partner was so tired that he almost fell asleep twice inside the Cathedral. We have records confirming these timings. We also find it surprising that you state there was "nothing you couldn't learn on the web." Our licensed local guides provide historical context, stories, explanations and local recommendations that go far beyond what can be found by reading online. Finally, we would like to point out that before publishing this review you requested a full refund through Viator. After reviewing the case, Viator rejected your request because the tour was delivered as described. We could not find the location to meet. In hindsight in reading reviews, others had the same difficulty. Yet the tour operator has not made it easier despite this issue. Tried communicating with the tour guide via Viator messaging (only option available) Got one message and no response to meeting at another location as the tour was 1.5 hours long and we were messaging 7 minutes into the tour. Viator refuses to refund our money. Will never use them again. Tours by Local going forward. We have always heard directly from the tour guide and had a way to communicate directly with the tour guide.
Thank you for your review, although it does not accurately reflect what happened. On the day of your tour there were 62 participants in total, including your party of four. The other 58 guests found the meeting point, arrived on time and joined the tour without any difficulty. Your group was the only one that did not. If 58 guests successfully locate the meeting point and only one party misses the tour, it is difficult to argue that the problem was the meeting point itself. The meeting point information was updated this year and includes detailed directions, a map, written instructions and contact options. You also had the possibility to contact us before the tour if you had any doubts, which you did not do. Arriving 10-15 minutes early, as clearly requested on the voucher, would have provided plenty of time to resolve any uncertainty. What is also surprising is that your own messages show that you were not entirely clear about the product you had booked. You wrote to us: "Ok. Requesting a refund as we had no way to communicate. And we were under the impression this tour was just for four." This was never advertised as a private tour. It is clearly described as a shared group tour. The timeline also contradicts your account. Your first message arrived at 11:37, after the tour had already started. We replied to you, and at 11:51 you wrote: "We are trying a different direction to see if we find you. Give us a few minutes." This shows that more than 20 minutes after departure you were still looking for the meeting point and were not close to the group. You mention Tours by Locals as an alternative, but omit the fact that comparable private tours there cost much more. They are completely different products. Finally, Viator reviewed all the information and rejected your refund request because the facts were clear: the tour operated normally, the meeting point instructions were provided, and 58 guests plus your own party's four places were accounted for, with only your group failing to arrive at the designated location on time. We understand that missing the tour was frustrating. However, it is unfair to blame the guide, the company or the tour itself for a situation that resulted from your group not reaching the meeting point as instructed. — The Nofrills Excursions Team

Fairly good tour. But probably could have done most of it on our own. Not a lot of historical content

Some visitors are looking for a deeper historical experience, while others prefer a lighter introduction to the city. Don’t book through Viator. Stood in a lineup for 1 1/2 hours for a taxi. Should have a shuttle or a better way to get people to the location.
