De teerputten fascineren wetenschappers en bezoekers al meer dan een eeuw, en tegenwoordig is dit gebied de enige actief opgegraven fossielensite uit de ijstijd die op een stedelijke locatie ter wereld is gevonden! In de afgelopen 50.000 jaar zaten dieren, planten en insecten uit de ijstijd gevangen in plakkerig asfalt, waardoor ze voor ons bewaard zijn gebleven. Sinds het begin van de 20e eeuw zijn er meer dan 100 opgravingen gedaan in de teerputten en de meeste fossielen die hier zijn ontdekt, zijn ondergebracht in het museum in La Brea Tar Pits, in het centrum van de teerputten! De ontdekkingen variëren in grootte van enorme, uitgestorven mammoeten en luiaards tot 'microfossielen' of kleine overblijfselen van planten en dieren die ons aanwijzingen geven over hoe oude ecosystemen en klimaten veranderden.

It was like having a friend showing you around Mircle Mile. Good conversations with good insight from our guide, Luce. We felt very safe, comfortable. Our tour guide and driver Ben was punctual, and had the perfect routes worked out to maximize all the allotted scheduled time. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining. It was the best tour ever!

We had Harvey as our guide, and bless him, he did his best to make the tour entertaining and interesting. He is an interesting and knowledgeable guy but LA is neither an interesting nor a cultural city... unless you like celebrities and want to try peek a glimpse of them like a safari. We had hoped that this tour would show a little bit of the history and culture of the city... there isn't any outside the studios. Even the tar pits, although interesting is so small, 10 minutes and you are done. So despite Harvey's best efforts, there really wasn't much to see on this particular tour. The only place in the city we really enjoyed was the beach, so maybe the Santa Monica tour would be better suited for the less interested in celebrities. Wouldn't recommend this particular one, because there is very little to see. The office and the staff however were lovely, they just didn't have much to work with.
<p>A wonderful experience! Our Segway trainer/guide, in the cowboy hat, made sure we could handle the machines well before we went out to tour. For us first-timers, this tour was long enough. We three highly recommend this great activity and this company!</p>
<p>3 of us had a brilliant time. It only took about 20 minutes to get used to the segways.</p>
