Local Flavor cooking was great for the family. My 13 year old is very interested in cooking so he loved it. Farmers Markets were closed, but we gathered herbs and veggies from the garden. Really enjoyable, delicious lunch, and met cool people!
Thank you for sharing this! We are so happy your family joined us for the Local Flavor Cooking Experience. It is absolutely awesome that your 13-year-old got to dive in. We love seeing young cooks get hands-on | and honestly | harvesting herbs and veggies straight from the garden is the ultimate "farm-to-table" lesson (even if the market was closed!). We are glad the food was delicious and that the company was good. Food always tastes better when you make it with cool new friends. Pura Vida, The Tucanes Tours Team
We had so much fun with guide Cesar and bus driver Jorge visiting the market in Quepos and the finca in Londres.where we cooked a delicious meal under the guidance of Cristal. The visit was extra special because two young interns at Toucanes Tours joined us so we got to interact with them, had them practice their English and peppered tfhem with questions about life in Costa Rica.
Thank you for sharing such a heartwarming review! We are so glad you enjoyed the Local Flavor Cooking Experience with Cesar and Jorge. We are especially touched that you embraced the time with our interns. That kind of genuine cultural exchange | sharing stories and helping them practice their English | is exactly what we hope for on this tour. It turns a cooking class into a real connection with the community. We will make sure to tell Cristal that the meal was a hit (and the interns will be buzzing to know they made it into the review!). Thanks for being such open and engaging guests.
We have just had a truly wonderful morning as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teenagers) - Cooking and exploring and learning about the local vegetables, fruits, herbs and spices! Plus some birdwatching as an added bonus! Our guide, Brenda Vindas, was EXCELLENT! Incredibly knowledgeable and a genuinely lovely person to have spent the morning with. We had our menu adjusted for the fact that we have one coeliac and one vegetarian in the family and nothing was too much trouble in that respect. Crystal our chef/teacher was kind (and patient!) and showed us how to prepare a traditional Costa Rican dish with relative ease and it tasted amazing. A brilliant experience had by all and more fabulous memories made in this wonderful country! Thank you Toucanes Tours, and Brenda (and Albero our driver too!) We would highly recommend to anyone looking for something a little different (and delicious!)
Thank you for the delicious review! We are so happy your family of 4 enjoyed the Local Flavor Cooking Experience. It is always a win when we can get teenagers and parents learning (and eating!) together. We are especially glad we could accommodate the coeliac and vegetarian needs seamlessly. We believe everyone deserves to taste the real Costa Rica | regardless of dietary restrictions | so we will pass your thanks on to Crystal. She takes great pride in ensuring every dish is safe and tasty. Brenda will be thrilled to hear she made the morning special with her botanical knowledge (and the bonus birdwatching!). And we won't forget Albero | he loves keeping the team safe on the road. Thanks for cooking with us! Pura Vida, The Tucanes Tours Team
Karla, Stephanie and George made this a truly special afternoon/ evening. We had an informative drive to Londres where we picked fresh produce, learned how to cook several.dishes; met the farm.animals. the added bonus was Karla's knowledge and passion for birds, of which there were many..
Thank you for the 5-star rating! We are thrilled to know that you enjoyed our Local Flavor Experience. Your feedback motivates us to continue providing exceptional service to all our customers.
Our family of five (3 kids ages 6, 8, 10) went on the local flavor tour and absolutely enjoyed ourselves. The kids were just as engaged as we were and said multiple times "this is way more fun than we thought it would be." Alan, our tour guide made the experience so educational and fun as he playfully interacted with the kids. The farm and garden were highlights, and the personal cooking class was amazing. The chef individualized each child's role and worked with them one on one. Ending in a delicious typical meal that we cooked was truly the cherry on top!! Thank you Alan for an unforgettable experience!
My husband and I took a cooking class through Tucanestours to learn how to prepare Costa Rican foods. We made our own tortillas, plantains ceviche, rice and beans and chicken. Our host Stephanie helped guides us through the process. Our guide Jeremy was fabulous in helping us with the translation and preparation of the food. Lunch was delicious and so was the farm/garden that we visited.
The farm where we got produce was so well tended. The cooking experience wasn’t very satisfying but the food was good when served. The drive there was interesting. Our guide was nice.
Carla was a great tour guide and the food was amazing. I loved how we picked our food right out a garden and how much we learned about Costa Rican cuisine !
My husband and I took our two kids (ages 10 and 7) on the Local Flavor Experience tour. We had a fabulous time! Our tour guide, Alberto Beto, was great with our kids, and we learned a lot from him – from the history of the area to fun facts about local critters to the different ingredients used in our cooking class. The ranch where our experience was held was beautiful, complete with a garden where we harvested fresh ingredients and animals (sheep, lambs, goats, horses, a pony, chickens, peacocks) that we were able to visit and pet. Stephanie, the master chef, did a great job working with our kiddos. We made Plantain Ceviche and Chicken Casado, all of which was very tasty! We had SO many amazing experiences during our time in Costa Rica, and this was one of my favorite. I highly recommend it for people of all ages. It was fun for the whole family!
Amazing food and company! Loved picking our own ingredients at the farm and hiking the grounds to see all the cool spices and medicinal herbs. My youngest son loved making the tortillas. He was so proud!
