De historische Liwa-oase ligt aan de noordelijke rand van Rub' Al Khali (het Lege Kwartier), 's werelds grootste ononderbroken woestijn. Liwa Oasis profiteert van een grondwaterpeil dat dicht bij de oppervlakte ligt en dat al generaties lang landbouw en veeteelt ondersteunt. Dit zorgt voor een dramatisch contrast in het landschap tussen groene dadelpalmbossen en hoge oranjerode zandduinen. De Liwa-oase strekt zich uit in een oost-westboog over meer dan 100 kilometer en heeft enkele van 's werelds grootste zandduinen, waarvan vele meer dan 150 meter hoog zijn. Reizigers kunnen midden in de Oase picknicken.
Gelegen in de majestueuze Al Dhafra-regio van Abu Dhabi, wordt Tel Moreeb door velen beschouwd als 's werelds hoogste zandduin, met een hoogte van meer dan 300 meter en een helling van 50 graden, waardoor het een uitstekende bestemming is voor motorsportliefhebbers.

The Liwa desert was amazing – endless dunes and really peaceful. The 4x4 dune bashing was fun, and the stops for photos and the oasis made it feel like a proper escape from the city. It’s a long day, but worth it if you want to see the real desert.
Once the dunes appeared, especially Moreeb dune that golden light, rolling sand, quiet sky...it felt like stepping into another world. Just plan for a long day, travel prepared, and let yourself slow down when you can.

The dune bashing experience was wild and thrilling! Our driver was skilled and made the whole ride feel like a rollercoaster — up and down the towering dunes with the sand spraying across the windows. I couldn’t stop laughing (and screaming a little!). It was the perfect balance of adrenaline and awe. One of the best parts of the day was stopping at the top of one of the highest dunes and just… being silent. No cars, no noise, just the wind and the sheer vastness of the desert.
