Naast de natuurlijke schoonheden biedt Rio verschillende toeristische plekken, evenementen, feesten, nachtclubs, bars en shows die het hele jaar door toeristen trekken. Al deze diversiteit en opwinding heeft uiteindelijk de aandacht en genegenheid van het LHBTI+-publiek getrokken. Niets is fijner dan goed ontvangen te worden op de bestemming. Veel beter als het door een deskundige lokale homovriendelijke gids is die ervoor zorgt dat je een spannende en veilige ervaring hebt. Je wordt in je hotel opgewacht door je privégids en gaat met de auto naar de voet van de Corcovado-berg, onderweg langs de stranden van Rio en de Rodrigo de Freitas-lagune.
Als je de wijk Cosme Velho bereikt, neem je een unieke Zwitserse tandradtrein die de berg beklimt van de basis tot bijna de top. De top wordt bereikt door een trap te beklimmen om bij het iconische standbeeld van Christus de Verlosser te komen. Het uitzicht, vanaf dit uitkijkpunt, met het omliggende Tijuca National Forest dat zich naar beneden uitstrekt en een cirkel van bergen die de horizon helemaal achter in de baai van Guanabara sluiten, is werkelijk spectaculair. Na een tijdje rondgelopen te hebben en foto's te maken, gaan we terug naar beneden.
We gaan dan richting de Boheemse wijk Santa Teresa, de thuisbasis van een verzameling lokale boetieks en galerieën. De charmante omgeving van Santa Teresa beschikt ook over vele trendy bars en restaurants die verschillende snacks en gerechten aanbieden, en niet te vergeten het adembenemende uitzicht. Mis het niet!
Van Santa Teresa tot Lapa zijn er de beroemde Selaron-trappen, een trap versierd met kleurrijke tegels. "Lapa" staat bekend om zijn energieke Boheemse sfeer en is het meest bruisende gebied in de stad, zowel overdag als 's nachts.
We lopen dan door het centrum van Rio door enkele van de coolste toeristische gebieden die bezienswaardigheden en cultuur vangen tot het Mauá-plein. De wandeling gaat langs historische bezienswaardigheden, veel bars en restaurants en komt aan op het Mauá-plein waar alle stammen en mensen samenkomen.
Het Mauá-plein combineert schoonheid, veiligheid, stijl en veel cultuur om te ademen terwijl u de pracht van het "Morgenmuseum" bewondert. Krijg historische informatie, maar op een leuke manier die je nog nooit ergens anders hebt meegemaakt!
We gaan dan de Suikerbroodberg op. Een reeks van twee kabelbanen brengt je naar de top van Sugar Loaf. Op de top weer een van de meest adembenemende uitzichten van Rio, dit keer vanuit een ander uitkijkpunt dan bij Corcovado. Daarna kunnen toeristen genieten van een lunch in een heel leuk steakhouse-restaurant met onbeperkt buffet (niet inbegrepen).
De belangrijkste Braziliaanse voetbaltempel. Stadium van belangrijke Braziliaanse voetbalfeiten en -evenementen zoals het WK voetbal in 1950 en 2014 en het duizendste doelpunt van koningsvoetbal Pelé, in 1969. Daarna kunnen toeristen genieten van een lunch in een heel leuk steakhouse-restaurant met onbeperkt buffet (niet inbegrepen).
Strand dat de inspiratie vormde voor de compositie van het beroemde lied "Ipanema Girl". Prachtig strand dat alle roem en bewondering verdient.
We komen onderweg ook langs verschillende bezienswaardigheden, waaronder de stranden van Copacabana en Ipanema, het Maracanã-stadion (buiten) en andere bezienswaardigheden. Na je excursie word je teruggebracht naar je hotel en afgezet, waar je de middag vrij hebt.

Our guide Sergio was more than fantastic. He was punctual, attentive, spoke very good English and very personable. He texted us via WhatsApp the day before the tour to confirm the time and pick-up. Along the tour he kept us informed of the history behind the sights we were about to visit and various other nuggets of information about the city. It was our first time in Rio and we wanted a good understanding of the local culture beyond the fun beaches. The private tour was well organized and gave us a great opportunity to customize for things we wanted to see. Take a look at what's included and work with the guide to make it your own! We found we needed 6 hours to cover our favorites. I also suggest starting a little after rush hour to make it easier to get around town. (10 am for example). Our guide, Sergio, was very knowledgeable of the history, cool neighborhoods, food and art of the area. He gave us his experience of the local gay culture as well. We had a great time and really high recommend Sergio and the tour!
