De grootste sloppenwijk van Azië, Dharavi, ligt op eersteklas vastgoed midden in de financiële hoofdstad van India, Mumbai (Bombay). Het is de thuisbasis van meer dan een miljoen mensen. We visited the slum today with our guide, Rahul! What a fantastic experience. We went on a private tour with our teenage children and Rahul showed us so many different aspects of the slum (industry, residential, commercial, healthcare etc). Rahul lives in the slum and gave us real insights into how it functions and operates. I think you expect to see dirt and poverty; but what you dont expect is the way people are so accepting of their circumstances, how they live so simply yet happily; how entreaupreanial they are and how much money/industry exists within the slum. Worth the visit! Make sure you use this company...they were great to deal with in terms of communicating and organisation!

Our guide, Bharti was fabulous. She had lived in this slum all of her life and her children were 5th generation. She took us on a fascinating tour which included sections where plastic was recycled, where soap was made, pottery produced and garments were dyed and created. We were fortunate enough to meet her lovely children, father and other members of her family. Bharti had perfect English and it was a tour we will never forget. I can't recommend her highly enough!

This was an excellent tour of Dharavi which was made even better by the quality of the guide, Mayur. Mayur’s in depth knowledge of the community, industry, commercial strengths and residences in addition being able to navigate in a way which built the experience and stories. Vivia was an excellent guide, very professional and personable. She gave us an excellent insight into the fascinating community lifestyle of the Dharavi dwellers, preferring to refer to it as a ‘chawl’ rather than the derogatory ‘slum’. The residents are proud of their homes and communities. The myriad of small businesses and enterprises was fascinating, especially the plastic recycling and thresher machine manufacture, as well as pottery making, leather crafting and textile dying and recycling. Definitely a ‘must do’ experience meeting these lovely friendly people.

Bharti gave me the guided tour. Shd was very good and answered all my questions. On the tour we went the the leather factries, cloth dying area, stitching factories, pottery area,plastic segregation and recycling area on the commercial front. Other than that we passed though the slum living area which is just 6*6 per residence and also the area which is marked to go for redevelopment. Overall an amazing eye opening experience

I went on a Dharavi tour with Divya. She is an excellent guide who was born, grew up and lives in Dharavi. She is a very positive, smiling person who has a great knowledge of the place. It was 2,5 hrs tour to see how the everyday life in Dharavi is and it was a great experience. If you plan to visit Dharavi, ask for Divya to be your guide.
This was the most amazing tour. We weren’t sure about being “those people” who go and look at other peoples situations based on our own, but when I looked into this one a little bit more I read that the proceeds of the tour go back into the community so we went. We had Divya as our guide who was like a local celebrity! Apparently the first female to offer this tour. She gave us the most memorable experiences in every part of the places we visited and has a good knowledge of the workings. She was even stopped by some Dutch tourists who said they had recognised her from YouTube! She also lives there and we got to see her beautiful home and meet her lovely family. If you are worried about going then don’t be! It is an experience I will remember for a lifetime and so glad I went. There is a lovely community here and seeing all of the ins and outs was amazing! I read on some forum that you should only take the kids pens and pencils etc but the reality is the kids wanted chocolate! They were very appreciative of our gifts and seeing their smiling faces was worth every penny but it’s chocolate they love! So thank you Divya for an amazing tour and hopefully see you again!
