Your Guide, Johnny zal je laten genieten van oude verhalen terwijl hij je meeneemt naar een aantal verbazingwekkende historische bezienswaardigheden, zoals de Oude Priorij (die dateert uit de 13e eeuw) in het mooie dorp Beauly. Je zult ook de geschiedenis en cultuur achter de dorpen en steden van het Zwarte Eiland zien en horen. De thuisbasis van de Valliscauliaanse monniken die hier sinds ongeveer 1230 tot 1510 gelukkig leefden. Het werd in 1564 bezocht door Mary Queen of Scots en bij aankomst zei ze wat een BEAU LEU of prachtige plek. Na de reformatie raakte de priorij in onbruik en werd de leiding in 1582 verwijderd. In 1652 nam Oliver Cromwell wat materiaal om een fort in Inverness te bouwen. Hier verliet Jamie Schotland naar Frankrijk in de Outlander TV-serie
De Ord-distilleerderij dateert uit 1838 en is de enige distilleerderij met enkelvoudige mout op Black Isle. Het water voor het stampen werd uit de Koekoekput gehaald en had in het begin 18 mensen in dienst. Nu heeft het 7 stills en is het eigendom van Diageo nu komt het water uit de White Burn.
De Black Isle Brewery biedt een korte gratis rondleiding en het Black Isle is een andere plek die ik sterk kan aanbevelen. Niet veel van de tours eindigen op het Black Isle, wat echt jammer is, want het is absoluut mooi en heeft een aantal geweldige wandelingen en een interessante geschiedenis.
Chanonry Point is een van de beste plekken in het Verenigd Koninkrijk om tuimelaars vanaf de kust te bekijken. De dolfijnen zijn vaak zichtbaar buiten het punt van Chanonry, vooral bij een vloed als ze spelen en vissen in de sterke stroming. Andere dieren in het wild, waaronder bruinvissen en grijze zeehonden, kunnen ook regelmatig worden gezien. Europese otters zijn ook incidentele bezoekers.
Hugh Miller was een lange (bijna 6ft) man met een grote massa vlammend rood haar en "saffier" blauwe ogen (volgens zijn vrouw, Lydia). Hij bezat een enorme fysieke kracht, en vooral een zoekend intellect met een buitengewoon bereik. Hij was een autodidact geoloog en schreef over de geschiedenis van de aarde met een welsprekendheid, breedte van verbeelding en beschrijvende kracht zoals niemand anders dan of sindsdien heeft. Zijn fossiele verzameling van meer dan 6000 exemplaren werd de basis van de hedendaagse Schotse nationale collectie in het Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh. Zijn boeken, zoals The Old Red Sandstone, The Cruise of the Betsey, Footprints of the Creator, Testimony of the Rocks, Scenes and Legends of the North of Scotland en My Schools and Schoolmasters (autobiography) werden in vele edities bestsellers. Hugh Miller was een evangelische christen. Hij kon woest agressief zijn in debat met zijn religieuze tegenstanders, via de kolommen van zijn krant, The Witness. Hij hielp een nieuwe Presbyteriaanse kerk op te richten en gaf deze de naam, de vrije kerk van Schotland. Ondanks al zijn wreedheid in druk was hij intens verlegen, introvert, nederig, vatbaar voor melacholie en werd hij zijn hele leven geteisterd door silicose vanwege zijn zwoegen in zijn jeugd als steenhouwer. Uiteindelijk zou hij door zijn eigen hand sterven - een enkel schot in de borst - in de vroege uren van kerstavond, in zijn huis in Shrub Mount, Portobello, net buiten Edinburgh. Tegen die tijd waren zijn hersenen 'aan het branden', gekweld door nachtmerries en angst om krankzinnigheid te naderen. Hij liet een weduwe achter, Lydia, zelf een schrijver, die postume publicatie van sommige van zijn boeken bewerkte en veiligstelde, en vier kinderen, Harriet, William, Bessie en Hugh Junior, die een geoloog werd zoals zijn vader. MILLER HOUSE opende op 8 april 2004 veel lof.
Dit elegante monumentale voormalige gerechtsgebouw, gebouwd in 1773, herbergt nu fascinerende tentoonstellingen over de historische stad Cromarty en de naburige parochie Resolis, die GRATIS te bezoeken zijn.

We had an incredible day with Johnny showing us the Black Isle! He tailored the day to activities we were interested in, beginning with a hike up Knock Farril for sweeping views of the land and firth. Beauly Priory has a fascinating history as does the Clootie Well. We stopped to see some highland ‘coos’ and saw dolphins frolicking at Chanory Point. There were too many charming towns to keep track of! We finished up in Inverness before heading back to the town of Invergorden. The whole time, Johnny kept us entertained with stories and tales of the region.
Johnny was an excellent guide around the Black Isle. We made numerous stops along the way to see little hamlets. Saw some Scottish highland cows up close, tasted a wee dram of whiskey, saw some dolphins and walked the rocky shores. We learned more about Johnny’s town and the economy of the region. All in all it was time and money well spent.

Our tour was off the beaten track and very pleasant. There were only 3 of us and our guide - Trevor. He was excellent. We had a relaxing and educational day. Trevor was clearly attentive to our desires and we had a flexible and interesting day. It was a great day!
We were picked up on time as agreed directly at the Invergordon Cruise Port and then got an impression of the Black Island with a great landscape in almost 6 hours and drove to beautiful spots for photography. In between there was also the opportunity to test and buy Glen Ord whisky on site at the distillery.
Our cruise had an impromptu stop in Invergordon, which left few options for us for excursions. As we had already visited both Invergordon (Dornoch, Dunrobin Castle) and Inverness (Culloden), we wanted to explore the Black Isle but found only one tour - Highland Premium Tours. We couldn't be more pleased with our choice as our driver, John "Johnnie" Mackay Bremner, delivered beyond our expectations. We climbed the Knockfarrel Vitrified Fort (aka The Cat's Back) for fantastic 360 views; took in the magnifience of Rogie Falls; tasted whiskey at Singleton's Glen Ord Distillery; explored both the Beuly Priory and Fortrose Cathedral; fun at Robertson's Larder & Highland Cows; attempted to count all the clooties left at Clootie Well; looked for dolphins at Chanonry Point; toured Hugh Miller's Birthplace Cottage in Cromarty - doing and seeing more with Johnnie today than any three cruiseship excursion we've ever taken. Do we recommend Highland Premium Tours and John Mackay Bremner? - ABSOLUTELY.

It was an amazing day trip. Jonny offered this unique tour to black isle which had yet been discovered by tourist. We saw Highlands great nature. The spring, the forest, the waterfall. Even caught a glimpse of salmon swam again the stream. Highly recommended for everyone enjoys nature and fresh air

Our Black Isle trip was guided by Johnny Bremner and we enjoyed to travel under his guidance. Johnny was on time to pick us from our hotel in Inverness, was extremely polite and a happy-go man and enjoyed our day with him thoroughly. He never rushed , was caring for our kids and was well versed with places we went. I would highly recommend his service to anyone travelling to highlands and definitely visit the black isle without fail.
Johnny looked after us and accommodated my mobility needs. Only 4 stars as we didn't get to see any dolphins or seals.
The whole trip was excellent, Johny was a skilled guide who knew a lot of history about the area. He took us to all the places mentioned and more, and was concerned about our comfort and safety throughout the trip.
