Late Night London spookwandeling

Welkom bij de Londense spookwandeling. Er wordt gezegd dat Engeland het meest spookachtige land op aarde is, en inderdaad, er zijn meer spookverhalen en vreemde verhalen, mijl voor mijl, dan waar ook ter wereld. Met zo’n rijke en gevarieerde geschiedenis mag dit geen echte verrassing zijn. Daarom lijkt het niet meer dan passend dat het ook de meest spookachtige hoofdstad op aarde heeft. Tijdens deze spookwandeling komen we van alles tegen, van moorddadige koninginnen tot demonenhonden, en een paar zachtere zielen. En hoewel deze wandeling in de eerste plaats een spookwandeling is, zal ik ook enkele plaatsen van historisch belang aanwijzen. Je wordt niet alleen geleid door een volledig ervaren City of London gids, maar ook door een ervaren spokenjager. Die persoonlijk heeft deelgenomen aan meer dan 15 nachtelijke spookjachten in heel Engeland. De gids is ook een horrorauteur, die van alles houdt wat met het bovennatuurlijke te maken heeft. Terwijl de meeste andere spookwandelingen ten einde lopen, zullen we nog maar net beginnen.

ChVoor onze eerste stop van de nacht bezoeken we Christ Church Greyfriars. U hoort het verhaal van zowel de geschiedenis van de locatie, als dat van de beroemdste geest, koningin Isabella, vrouw van koning Edward de II van Engeland, of zoals de geschiedenis haar meer beroemd herinnert als de She Wolf van Frankrijk.
Voor de 2e stop van de avond bezoeken we de grootste parochiekerk van de stad Londen. Waar we zullen ontdekken over de zeer gruwelijke praktijk van grafroof, een misdaad die epidemische proporties aannam in de late 18e en vroege 19e eeuw.
De wandeling stopt buiten de Old Bailey, waar ooit de gevreesde Newgate gevangenis stond. Eenmaal daar krijg je een korte geschiedenis van de locatie, evenals het horen over een aantal van de geesten die er zouden spoken.
Hier betreden we het hol van de gevreesde Zwarte Hond van Newgate. Waar we zullen horen over deze demonische entiteit, evenals de verschrikkelijke misdaad die werd gezegd dat het is geboren.
We stoppen bij Temple Bar, de laatste van de London Gateways. Hier wordt u verteld over de geschiedenis van de poort, waaronder een echt angstaanjagend spookverhaal dat aan de gids werd verteld door de persoon die het evenement heeft meegemaakt.
De wandeling brengt ons langs St. Paul's Cathedral, waar we buiten stoppen, en dan een beetje horen over de geschiedenis, evenals de geest die er zou rondspoken.
Nog steeds in de schaduw van St Paul’s Cathedral zullen we hier stoppen en meer te weten komen over de openlucht preekstoel die men op de locatie heeft gestaan, en de connecties met zowel necromantie als hekserij.
De wandeling brengt ons langs St Mary Le Bow, een van de beroemdste kerken van de stad Londen. Eenmaal daar stoppen we, waar u een korte geschiedenis van het gebouw hoort, en dan wordt verteld over enkele van de griezelige gebeurtenissen die daar zouden hebben plaatsgevonden tijdens zijn lange geschiedenis.
We bezoeken de Bank of England waar we meer te weten komen over de geschiedenis van dit grootse oude gebouw en zijn functie. We zullen ook horen over zijn tragische geest, Sarah Whitehead, van wie gezegd wordt dat geest de locatie sinds het begin van de 19e eeuw heeft achtervolgd.
Op deze locatie zullen we meer te weten komen over de geesten van de Londense underground, evenals de vele mysterieuze gebeurtenissen die het station tot op de dag van vandaag hebben geteisterd.
Logeren bij de Londense metro komen we bij een van de beroemdste spookstations van de stad. Eenmaal op de locatie horen we over de kortstondige geschiedenis van het station, evenals de bovennatuurlijke gebeurtenissen die er zouden plaatsvinden.
De wandeling stopt naast het Monument voor de Grote Brand van Londen, waar u wordt verteld over de geschiedenis ervan, evenals over de Grote brand zelf.
De laatste stop op de wandeling brengt ons naar de oevers van de rivier de Theems, waar we in het zicht van London Bridge zullen zijn. Eenmaal daar hoor je over de geschiedenis van de brug, en het spookverhaal dat ermee verbonden is.

A good mix of history and lore. A nice walk a little away from the usual smithfields, tower and east end., this one included underground, St Pauls and early London. Guide had a great knowledge of the area and chatted to everyone

Really fun walking tour and a great way to learn the history of London. The walk is not too taxing with lots of sit down breaks whilst Alan tells his ghost stories and gives a great oral history to the ancient city of London

This was a wonderful tour by Alan showcasing some incredible London landmarks as well as some lesser known spots. Alan had amazing knowledge and is a very skilled storyteller. This tour wasn’t only great for ghost stories but also for understanding more about London’s rich history. All in all this tour was truly fantastic value for money and well worth doing. Don’t be put off by the 9pm start time, London looks beautiful at night and feels very atmospheric. Thank you so much Alan, I’ll definitely be recommending this tour to friends and family! :)

But the two of u were also amazing guest, you really got in to the stories. And like I said at the end, I hope I didn't scare you to much lol

We had a great time on Alan's ghost tour. Didn't meet up with any ghouls this time but got so much information and amazing stories that were well presented and easy to follow even as a non native english speaker. It was also interesting to walk in areas that weren't familiar with us before this and we loved the late night version, since it indeed was much more quiet and gave a more eerie feeling to it all. It was a bit of a walk but a durable one (if one hadn't already walked over 16 000 steps on the same day....). Would recommend, thanks again Alan!

I've been on quite a few ghosts tours for quite a while now, but this one was slightly different, for quite a few reasons. The first reason is that it actually started later than other tours, at 9pm to be precise. The second reason is that Alan the tour guide claims to be a ghost hunter, that is no understatement, he definitely is. I should know because I am also a paranormal enthusiast who has studied this subject for a very long time and I was able to confirm to the other guests that the stories he was telling them and me was 100% correct. The third reason is that he also tells the guests information, which some tour guides who do similar ghost walks, do in fact miss out on. An example of this is when he mentions that Newham Prison has (according to legend) a ghostly hound haunting part of that location. Some of the ghost tours I've been on, don't even mention this. Despite the fact that this tour starts late, if you have the time. It's still worth going to. There was one ironic addition to this tour which was slightly unexpected and also quite amusing, you had the ghost tour bus going past us while Alan was telling us a story near St Bartholomew's Hospital. (Years ago I went on this bus and if you want my advise, stick to the tour guides especially Alan, it's much better) During the visit there was one place, which I was surprised was closed and that is The Viaduct Tavern. This is one of the most haunted pubs in London. All in all, it was a very good tour of London but don't let the 9pm start time put you off from going on to it. Because, you will find that London is a lot quieter including the traffic on the road. So do still consider attending it.
