The operator of this tour cancelled due to me being the only participant and Mother’s Day approaching but didn’t even tell me until I reached out the night before cooking class. I understand that things happen but their communication needs improvement.
The day started with Luis picking us up in his car, and he was very helpful and considerate of our attendee with a wheelchair. (Please note that the description says the day is wheelchair accessible, and it is not - there are stairs involved and the transportation is a typical sedan car. That being said, Luis was very helpful and luckily our attendee was able to get out of his wheelchair and walk up a few steps. His participation was limited as the counter height was not appropriate for a wheelchair.) We drove about a half hour out of Mexico City to a park-like region and stopped off to buy some masa and ingredients (and ate some snacks!). Luis was wonderful at explaining ingredients and dishes to us and is lovely to chat with. He then took us to his family's restaurant in a nature park that's quite rural and rustic. The scenery is beautiful and there's some interesting history to learn about, but no restroom facilities (so make sure you go before you leave the city!). We learned to make tortillas and three salsas, which were quite unique and delicious. They keep group sizes small, so it was just our group of four that day, which allowed us to get hands-on with making everything and ask Luis millions of questions. He was so knowledgeable, and his English is excellent. We were then treated to an excellent lunch with our tortillas and salsa, but also with an assortment of stellar dishes made by his family. Luis was very flexible and generous with the timing (our day ran longer than expected), and was very accommodating. We've enjoyed trying to recreate what we learned, but without written recipes to take home, it's been.... challenging. ;-) Thanks Luis for a unique, memorable, and authentically Mexican day!
My wife and I joined this tour for our honeymoon and it was our best day in Mexico City. The opportunity for complete cultural immersion was unmatched and something that often is hard to find as a tourist. It's clear that not every tour is the same in the best of ways. We were able to meet our guides horses, shop at local stands, cook deep in the forest in a village along the river, and even celebrate the birthday of one of the cooks 8 yr old daughter. One of the best parts was Luis's intent to show us anything and everything that caught our eye. We saw a menudo cooking simmering on the stove, so he got us a bowl to try. When my wife shared she wasn't much of a beer drinker, he came out with a lavish Pina Colada for her to enjoy. At every turn he was there to make our trip special and we will be recommending this tour to everybody we meet that plans to visit Mexico City. If you're looking for a trip that strays from the norm, introduces you to beautiful people, delicious food and a gorgeous countryside stop scrolling and book.
Wow, thank you so much for your kind words! It was a true honor to be part of such a special moment in your lives — your honeymoon! 💕 We’re so happy to hear that you enjoyed the experience, the food, and the wonderful people you met along the way. Luis and the whole team send you both a big abrazo from Mexico City! We hope to see you again one day for another unforgettable adventure. 🌮🐎🌿
Luis is so passionate and knowledgeable about his culture and it is reflected in his tour. We were so engaged the entire day, and Luis made us laugh and taught us so much! We left inspired and full!
Very inspiring time with Louis cooking about 30mins out of cdmx. We communicated on whatsapp ahead of the outing and he came to pick me up in condesa. The food was amazing and the whole experience real and authentic, from picking up ingredients at the market to cooking to enjoying the food in a relaxed environment. can recommend!!
I was not met at the scheduled time and there has been no contact with the company despite texting them. The phone number no longer exists so it looks like I’ve wasted nearly $200au. Be very hesitant booking this tour. At the very least the communication is non existent.
We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and truly understand how frustrating this must have been. We’d like to clarify that our horseback experience takes place in a remote rural area, where there is no electricity or cell signal — something we always try to communicate in advance. Because of these conditions, all of our logistics and communication are managed through WhatsApp and the official cdmxexperience platform. When those channels are used, guests have no issues with coordination, and we are always there to support them. If there was a missed connection and you were unable to join the experience, the booking platform does offer refunds in cases like this. Please reach out directly to the platform to request your refund, and if there’s anything we can do to help move that forward, don’t hesitate to let us know. We truly hope to have the opportunity to welcome you another time and show you the experience as it was meant to be.
Incredible experience! Picked up from an easy to get to location in Condesa and got to spend the day at a local town market, driving through a lovely biological reserve, cooking over a flame in the mountains, and eating our food by the creek. I was the only attendee for the day so I got a personal class and lots of wonderful conversation and education about traditional Mexican cooking. Luis was so personable, funny, and entertaining and I loved that we got to be creative in choosing what to make, thinking of cooking not as following a basic recipe but understanding the full process and how to modify / play with it to make something delicious and to your personal taste. We made a roasted tomatillo salsa verde, a smoky adobo salsa roja, fried chorizo and potatoes stewed with our salsa verde and cilantro/purslane, tortillas for tacos, and roasted plantains with crema and strawberry jam. Luis' family had tequila with a scorpion that we sipped on straight and it was really sweet and delicious. We also got to try many of the locally made quesadillas, tacos, and tostadas along with huuuuge cantaritos - what a treat! Wish I could do it again!
Highly recommend this class. Luiz is a great guide. He picked us up near our place and was very knowledgable about Mexico City's History. He was very easy going and his family farm is a beautiful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. I went with two of my friends and we learned to make tortillas, tortes, and salsa. It's a great activity for family or friends. His aunt was a delight as well!
This was a 10 out of 10 experience for my wife and I on our honeymoon! I am a chef and wanted an authentic experience while in Mexico, and Luis and his family delivered! Luis picked us up from our hotel and took us to a local market to pickup fresh produce and chilis! Then drove us into the mountains to his families restaurant. We then got to grill fresh tomatillos, onions, chilis, etc to make three different type of salsa's! He walked us through selecting the right produce and why it's Soo important! We then got to use a mortal and pestle to grind our charred veggies into delicious salsa's. We then got a quick tutorial on pressing fresh tortillas and before we knew it, my wife and I had taken over the grill making tortillas for our lunch. We sat down and had a delicious Michelada and the best tacos I've ever had! They brought out additional dishes and feed us until we waved the surrender flag and said we were full! It was an amazing experience that we will cherish for a lifetime! If you are looking for an authentic experience, want to learn about salsa's, cooking techniques (I've been a professional chef for 20 years and left feeling like I learned sooooo much) then this is the experience for you!!!!!
The food was delicious, Luis taught me many things about Mexican food that faced me, the view is also super amazing
