Dit is de beste manier om centraal Kreta te verkennen met plateaus, oude Minoïsche paden en dieren in het wild. Bezoek het bekkenreservoir van Aposelemis en een oud Romeins aquaduct, Kastamonitsa, het Mitato van de herders, het plateau van Lassithi, de Diction-grot, de geboorteplaats van Zeus. Bezoek het Lassinthos Eco-park waar traditionele ambachten en de lokale manier van leven kunnen worden ervaren en Krassi met de beroemde voor een 2000 jaar oude plataan en heeft ook een natuurlijke bron met bronwater.

Dit is de beste manier om centraal Kreta te verkennen met plateaus, oude paden en dieren in het wild. Onze reis begint vanuit uw hotel dat ons een weg baant door de spectaculaire bergen van Kreta die we bezoeken Aposelemis bassinreservoir en een oud Romeins aquaduct. Vanaf hier zullen we het dorp Kastamonitsa bezoeken, genesteld in de uitlopers van het Afendi-gebergte, waar u het ontbijt in Kretenzische stijl zult ervaren en kennis kunt maken met een lokaal product, Raki. Zet je schrap voor onverharde paden, volg het Minoïsche pad door bergpassen, ervaar spectaculaire dieren in het wild, ongelooflijke landschappen, mythologie, geschiedenis en geniet van het zien van de lokale natuur op zijn best. Hier, hoog in de bergen, stoppen we bij een Mitato van de herders, waar we de dieren kunnen voeren terwijl we zien hoe herders kaas op de traditionele, ouderwetse manier produceren en zelfs deze frisse, rijke delicatesse proeven. De volgende stop is een panoramisch uitzicht op het plateau van Lassithi en de noordkust, een geweldige fotomoment die u niet mag missen. We vervolgen onze weg naar de Diction-grot, de geboorteplaats van Zeus. Er is een toegangsprijs van 4 € en wandelschoenen worden aanbevolen. Na het opbouwen en de eetlust gaan we voor de lunch in een lokale taverne waar je de kans krijgt om een selectie van traditionele lokale voorgerechten en hoofdgerechten te proberen (vegetarische optie beschikbaar) en geniet van een glas of twee van de onbeperkte wijn! Eenmaal opgefrist gaan we verder naar Lassithi en bezoeken het Lassinthos Eco-park waar traditionele ambachten en de lokale manier van leven kunnen worden ervaren. Vervolgens op naar het Lassithi-plateau waar de tijd vrijwel stil heeft gestaan, zijn de lokale bevolking voornamelijk boeren. U zal ook veel ezels aan het werk zien. We vervolgen onze weg naar Seli, waar we opnieuw de mogelijkheid hebben om foto's te maken van dit unieke landschap. Terwijl we doorrijden, bereiken we het dorp Krassi, dat beroemd is vanwege een 2000 jaar oude plataan en ook een natuurlijke bron met bronwater heeft. Bij het verlaten van Krassi, slingerend over de bergwegen en langs slechts enkele van de vele olijfboomboerderijen op het eiland ziet u opnieuw de spectaculaire kustlijn en diepblauwe zee. Dit is een dag vol vele verrassingen.

Bezoek het schilderachtige dorpje Kastamonitsa en sluit je aan bij de lokale bevolking om wijn en de beroemde Kretenzische olijfolie te proeven. Rijd daarna de bergen in om een lokale herder te bezoeken en de kans te krijgen om wat geiten te voeren en wat van de zelfgemaakte kaas te proberen.

A really enjoyable trip exploring off the beaten track - the scenery was amazing & would have been inaccessible without the Land Rover. Darrel our guide was an excellent driver & had an amazing knowledge of the local flora & fauna & of Cretan history so we learnt a lot through. Lunch at a traditional taverna was also delicious & an authentic way to finish the day.

A beautiful day exploring the Lasithi plateau with a Guide who loves his job. Attention the entrance to the zeus cave is extra and is not included in the Award of the excursion. It’s also a shame that we came back an hour earlier than the time indicated by the person who sold us the tour. The Award is a little high. We still loved this trip.

It was amazing to be able to see the 'middle' of Crete........amazing mountains which are hidden just touring the highways surrounding this beautiful island. Fun to see the goats so accustomed to people. Christian was an excellent guide and really had to work explaining the sites to our group, both in French & English. Lunch was an amazing treat.... thoroughly enjoyed all of the local food!
