Als we naar het stadscentrum rijden, lopen we naar onze tweede stop van de dag. Dit is 'Kyrenia Castle'. Het kasteel is gemaakt door de Byzantijnen en er zijn veel toevoegingen gedaan door Lusignans, Venetianen, Ottomanen en Engelsen. Er is een scheepswrakmuseum in het kasteel waar de amforen, amandelen, zaden en het scheepswrak worden tentoongesteld. Het scheepswrak dateert uit 300 voor Christus
Het werd gebouwd als haven tijdens de Venetiaanse periode. Een kettingtoren dateert uit dezelfde periode. De haven werd gebouwd als 'U'-vormig. Het douanekantoor is gebouwd tijdens de koloniale tijd. Tegenwoordig wordt de haven gebruikt als jachthaven voor de dagelijkse rondvaarten. Er zijn ook veel cafés waar u alcohol of frisdrank kunt drinken?
Dit is een militaire begraafplaats die dateert uit de 16e-eeuwse Ottomaanse periode. Het moseleaum in het centrum wordt verondersteld toe te behoren aan een van de commandanten van het Ottomaanse garnizoen.
De stad werd tijdens de periode van Lusignan omringd door muren. Deze toren is de enige overgebleven uit die jaren.
De oude gemeentemarkt werd in 1887 door de Britten gebouwd als gemeentehuis. Later was de gemeentemarkt tot voor kort het centrum voor verse groenten en fruit. De 'Bandabuliya' werd later gerestaureerd en is een traditionele bazaar geweest tot café, kantoor en een evenementenlocatie.
Het klooster werd gebouwd door Lusignans. Het is een van de mooiste kloosters die werd gebouwd in de middeleeuwse periode in het Midden-Oosten. Het heeft een gotische structuur. Het was in gebruik tot 16AD.

The whole trip to Kyrenia was an incredible experience! Our tour guide, Sirin, was very kind, competent, and truly passionate. We learned so much from her about Cyprus's history, which made the sightseeing even more special. The organization was perfect and stress-free. Sirin picked us up in Nicosia, crossed the border with us, and drove us around to show us the most beautiful spots in Kyrenia by car. After the tour, she dropped us back in Nicosia safely. If you are looking for the best trip in Cyprus with a comfortable, private atmosphere, you will definitely have it with her. Highly recommended! :)

Kyrenia castle in the old marina is a must to see. The shipwreck museum in the castle dates back to 300 BC - the oldest in the world. Bellapais Monastery was our second stop of the day. Located on the Kyrenia Mountain. Typical gothic style architecture. I did this tour with Sirin. She was flexible with the start time and I enjoyed the local coffee when we enjoyed outside the monastery. If you are looking for a half day tour I highly recommend this one.

Kyrenia was simply beautiful, and what made it even more special was how naturally Şirin shared her love for the place. She has this wonderful way of weaving stories into every stop, without ever overwhelming you. It felt like walking through the past with someone who not only knows the history, but genuinely enjoys sharing it. The atmosphere at the harbor, the view from Bellapais Abbey, the castle. Everything was elevated by her presence and attention to detail.

Anyone visiting Cyprus is bound to tour Girne Castle and the Bellapais Monastery. We were very pleased with this trip. Recommended for everyone.
