Full Day Adventure : Kulen Mountain, Beng Mealea en Tonle Sap : We halen je op bij je hotel tussen 7 : 30 - 8 : 00 uur – wacht alsjeblieft om 7 : 30 stipt in de lobby. Dit wordt een drukke dag, maar geloof me, elke minuut is het waard.
Eerst gaan we rechtstreeks het echte Cambodja in. Je ziet de lokale bevolking hun ochtendroutine doen, eindeloze stukken smaragdgroene rijstvelden en die klassieke houten huizen op palen. Onze eerste stop? Het Palm Sugar Village, waar families al generaties lang traditionele Cambodjaanse suiker op dezelfde manier maken. Bekijk het hele proces van palmboom tot zoete, gouden kristallen.
Dit is groot spul – de eigenlijke geboorteplaats van het Angkor rijk. We klimmen naar de top van de Kulen berg voor die adembenemende uitzichten, en bezoeken dan de enorme liggende Boeddha uitgehouwen in de rots. De rivier van de duizend lingas is de volgende – deze eeuwenoude inkervingen in de rivierbedding zijn absoluut verbluffend. Dit standpunt is precies hoe het klinkt. De panoramische uitzichten strekken zich uit over canyons en bossen zover je ogen kunnen zien. Slechts een korte wandeling van de parkeerplaats, maar de payoff is ongelooflijk.
Stel je een 8 meter liggende Boeddha voor, uitgehouwen in de berghelling – we hebben het over 1000 jaar pelgrims die deze exacte klim maken die je gaat maken. Lokale families steken wierook aan, monniken bidden rustig en op de een of andere manier lijkt dat oude stenen gezicht de expressie te verschuiven met het veranderende licht. Spiritueel of niet, hier staan raakt gewoon anders.
Duizenden heilige vruchtbaarheidssymbolen uitgehouwen in de eigenlijke rivierbedding door 11e-eeuwse priesters – waardoor stromend water veranderde in wijwater voor het hele Angkor koninkrijk.
Dit is waar je dag serieus goed wordt. Kristalheldere zwembaden gevoed door kalksteen gefilterd bergwater, picknick verspreid op gladde rotsen met watervallen als uw soundtrack. Dan komt dat zwemmen – koud water (het soort dat je meteen wakker maakt) in poelen die zo puur zijn dat je elke kiezel ziet.
Na de lunch gaan we naar iets heel bijzonders. Beng Mealea Tempel is hoe Angkor Wat eruit zou kunnen zien als de natuur was overgelaten om het uiteindelijk terug te winnen. Gebouwd in de 12e eeuw, is deze tempel absoluut gehuld in jungle wijnstokken en massieve boomwortels. Het is rauw, authentiek en voelt alsof je de eerste persoon bent die het vindt.
Onze laatste stop brengt ons naar een van Cambodja's meest fascinerende drijvende dorpen. Deze families wonen hun hele leven op het water, omringd door torenhoge paalwoningen en dichte mangrovebossen. We bezoeken een boeddhistisch klooster gebouwd op een kunstmatig eiland – het is anders dan wat je eerder hebt gezien.
We hebben je terug in de stad om 18:30 uur. Wil je meteen naar je hotel om die vermoeide voeten uit te rusten? Of wil je liever dat we je afzetten op de Oude Markt voor een avondje winkelen en dineren? Jij beslist.

I had a great day on this trip with Mr Sam our guide and the driver Mr Sothea. Both were extremely professional and personable. Mr Sam was extremely knowledgeable about the places we visited and had a great personality and his english was very good and easy to understand. He liked telling bad dad jokes!

The day trip was fantastic. Mr. Sam was an excellent guide - very knowledgeable and fun! I’m glad I got to see these sites, as they were some of my favorite on my trip to Siem Reap. Mr. Sothea was a great driver as well. The lunch was delicious and the cold waters and cold towels they gave us after after returning to the bus after being out in the heat were so refreshing. What a wonderful day with Mr August learning about Cambodian culture beyond Angkor Wat. The AC ride started with a stop learning about making- and sampling delicious Palm Cake. Visiting Kulen to eat and then swim in the waterfall with the locals was my favorite part of the day. Exploring Beng Mealea, Thousand Lingas, and learning about Cambodia was a wonderful experience. I loved seeing the Reclining Buddha - but walking the area to see the offerings of lotus flowers and prayer was truly beautiful. Seeing Tonle Sap in dry season was neat- the kids playing throughout the unfolded street was my fav part and the boat ride was fun too. Mr August is kind, knowledgeable, and hospitable. He and our driver provided us with plenty of water, some snacks, and a special souvenir. I highly recommend booking this tour with Mr August!
