Guide: I really enjoyed Borey is a guide. He is very professional, thoughtful, and kind. He also has very clear and strong English, and excellent examples with maps, diagrams, and analogies that I really enjoyed. He explained Hinduism and Buddhism in ways that were very clear and concise to someone unfamiliar with those things, and told great stories from those two major world religions. Borey is extremely educated and was so kind also to help me get some paintings I was looking for. I think he is a great guide, and I do reccomend asking for him. On this tour, there are also several other people that help as well--the elephant guide (the guide for the tour does not come on that part, the nature professional working there does), the car driver and boat driver. I reccomend bringing a tip for the guide, but also a small one for the other people too. Preparation: I would bring bug spray, sunscreen, hat, comfortable walking shoes. Depending on the season, a rain jacket may be appropriate. A water proof phone case is something to consider because during the elephant tour, you get to shower the elephants. You can get wet for sure! Tour: I really liked this tour! We got up in the morning and went to the area around Tonle Sap, which showed a dynamic, water-based way of life different from Siem Reap. The houses are built very high on stilts to protect from floods, and they look very beautiful with their bright blues and other colors. We walked around the village and then took a boat to the lake and crocodile museum. The crocodiles I thought were not anything too special. As an American, I see plenty at our zoos and they have more extensive habitats there. I really liked being on the lake though and seeing the culture. Borey provided a lot of information about Cambodian daily life, including a walk through an active market where he explained many cultural things, such as the funeral bundle Cambodian families buy for the monk when a family member died. He also talked about the nut uses by Cambodian women prior to dentists that keep their teeth strong and many other examples. His explanations were very good, thorough, and clear. After that, we went to the lunch space, which was good, then the Kulen Reserve. You get to make food for the elephants and feed them, which is very fun, and go see as many of them as you can. People are not able to get close to the male elephant for safety, but you can get very close to the female elephants. You also get to help them take a bath which is a lot of fun! Overall, amazing tour and a great day. I am very thankful for Borey and the many Cambodian people who gave me such a great experience in Siem Reap.
Kulen elephant sanctuary was the highlight of our trip. We prepared snacks for the elephants and got to feed them up close and personal. We walked through the forest a bit and continued to interact with other elephants on the property. Our guide Kia was fantastic! We felt very safe and got lots of photos taken by our guide. Highly, highly recommend. Tonle Sap was enjoyable as well. The water was low but still a great time.
Very worthwhile activity, would recommend. Tour was roughly half day with elephants and the rest on the lake boat tour through the gloating city with ample opportunity to eat and no rush.
Transport, communication and our guide 10 out of 10! Started the day with walk through and information on the various foods and cooking used in the local markets! So much knowledge by our guide..River cruise along the floating villages, so interesting to see that way of life. Boat driver was lovely! Elephants the highlight!! Amazing to see this beautiful creatures up so close!! Feed them!Walk with them! Afternoon snack and then we got to feed them. Have been to a few elephant camps this is the best yet!
Dara was an exceptional tour guide—friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. From pick-up to drop-off, every detail of our tour was flawlessly organized, allowing us to relax and fully enjoy the experience. His insights and enthusiasm made the journey even more memorable. We had an incredible time and would highly recommend him!
Negotiate a tuk tuk from Siem Reap and get to Tonle Sap through the busy rural landscape along back tracks. The flooded forest is a unique and special place to see.
Fantastic trip !!! It’s such an experience both at the Kulen elephant forest and the Tonle Sap. Getting up close to the elephants was such a great experience that we will never forget, learning about them, preparing a treat snack for them and feeding them and then going for a walk with them in the forest. All I can say is wow ! The boat trip then on the Tonle Sap and visiting the floating village was again an experience not to be missed. A special shout out to our personal guide for the day - Meak Borey ! He was very knowledgeable, spoke very good English and was very accommodating and made the day even more special. Can’t recommend the trip enough !
We had a wonderful day at the elephant sanctuary, and boating to floating town and the lake Tonle Sap. We were in the off season, but weather was fine and crowds were very light. Seila was our guide for the day and he was fantastic. Full of knowledge and great fun. He kept us on time and made sure we were going to the right spots. Would happily recommend this to anyone.
We are a couple with our senior mother from Hong Kong. We are so pleased with our guide Mr. Wanna. He is very nice, patient and knowledgable for history. He was very flexible with timing and our needs because we were traveling during the hottest time in Cambodia, we needed to take some breaks for our 70 yrs old mother. Mr. Wanna was so patient and Kulen was such a wonderful experience for us. We love animals and would never ride on them, Kulen was such a sanctuary for the retired elephants, the elephants are so happy there. I highly recommended this activity for children/couple/family/ animal lovers.
To all elephant enthusiasts who think they will see elephants in their natural environment and unfortunately that is not the case!!! So yes we don't ride the elephants but you can touch them, they pose so you can photograph them, they are in single file waiting for you and walking at your disappointing pace!!!! Regarding the boat visit on the lake "A FLUE" the agency does not tell you that in this season very little water, that you navigate between the waste rarely seen such a dirty site, may involve the sinners by paying them a little money so that they clean their environment which without the waste could be magnificent. on the lake restaurant boats are there with a pledge placed in the lake so that you can photograph crocodiles which when you see the size of the cage easy to imagine these poor crocodiles piled on top of each other deplorable!!! Obviously I refused to go on this boat.
