Korean Folk Village introduceert traditionele cultuur uit de late Joseon periode aan zowel lokale als internationale bezoekers door middel van culturele klassen ervaring, sjamaan geloof, seizoensgebonden gebruiken en anderen. Ook toont het dorp verschillende plaatsen met unieke kenmerken, zoals een boerendorp, privéhuis, officiële wijken, Confucianistische academie, seodang (dorpsschool), en een dorpsstraat in realistische beschrijvingen, evenals een edelmanshuis en traditionele werkplaats. Voorstellingen zoals Nongak (boerenmuziek), vechtkunst te paard, traditionele huwelijksceremonie en andere speciale evenementen zijn beschikbaar per seizoen. Met name ‘Welcome to Joseon’, dat elk jaar in mei wordt gehouden, is een voorstelling met tijdreizen terug naar vroeger.
Suwon Hwaseong is een UNESCO-werelderfgoed in Suwon, Zuid-Korea. Het werd gebouwd in de late 18e eeuw door koning Jeongjo als een fort en paleis complex. De vestingmuren overspannen bijna 6 kilometer en zijn bezaaid met vier poorten en een aantal uitkijktorens. U kunt langs de muren wandelen, de paleisgebouwen verkennen en genieten van culturele voorstellingen en evenementen die op de site worden gehouden.
Suwon Nammun Market is een traditionele markt in Suwon, Zuid-Korea. De markt heeft een geschiedenis die teruggaat tot de Joseon-dynastie, en het is een van de grootste en oudste markten van het land. De markt ligt in de buurt van het beroemde Hwaseong Fort, dat op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO staat. (Deze plek wordt elke woensdag vanaf jun~aug overgeslagen)

The summer tours start in the afternoon to avoid the heat of the day - and that is an absolute necessity! Even with the shift in the schedule, I had a hard time dealing with the heat at times - so come prepared (water, a fan, umbrella for the sun etc)! Harry was a great guide. He went out of his way to minimize the impact of the heat. At each of the three stops, he gave us an introduction to the area and then allowed us to explore on our own if we wanted to at the fortress and the following village, we also had the option of staying with him for additional guided touring. The option was greatly appreciated - I was able to see what I wanted of the fortress at my own pace before buying an ice cream and drink and finding some shade. The folk village does involve a lot of walking - most of it shaded - if you want to take advantage of it. There are some great food options - traditional Korean items - that are perfect for a quick dinner (the sweet rice drink was delicious!). And the night time music and dance performance was outstanding - the seats (on stone steps and a few logs) fill up early, so I recommend getting there ahead of time for the best view (so you can see the stage from the front). A great way to see some things outside of Seoul! Highly recommend.
Enjoyable day. Harry was passionate in showing and describing our featured stops. Wonderful performance at the folk village! Performance alone was worth the tour. Suggest you eat in town, not the folk village.
The tour was great, especially the Folk Village! Harry was the BEST guide!! He was very welcoming, organized and went out of his way to make sure we were having a good time. He shared so much interesting information along the tour and we learned so much!
Exceptional tour. As i was the only English speaker in the group, I had my own guide who gave me a lot of insight and information about the tour destinations. It was a good combination of guided and individual time to explore. Plenty of opportunities to eat throughout the day as well. I loved the folk village - it is so big you definitely don't have time to explore it in full during the tour, but now i know i want to head back there on my next Korea trip.
This was a great history of Josun full day tour. Although it was a little difficult to fully understand our guide, she did an amazing job of sharing her knowledge of the dynasty and current culture. The Folk village was great for our family (think EPCOT). The highlight of the trip was the visit to the music culture hall (Wednesdays only). After visiting the Fortress, we visited the market in Suwon, which was meh, but interesting to see an authentic market. Plan for a long day. Definitely recommend if you have the time.
This was a great day out. Our guide was very informative about Korea’s history and he looked after us well. I can’t believe I actually sang Arirang with Gugak musicians. Well worth the tour fee.
Be sure to wear your walking shoes and bring a hat & sunscreen if it’s a sunny day. Our tour guide (Laura) was very knowledgeable.
The Folk Village was my favorite part. Nice to see a broader range of history than just palaces. The Fortress was also interesting, if a bit of a hike. I wasn’t expecting a trip to a traditional market in Suwon, and having already been to one in Seoul, it was not the best use of time. I would rather have had more time at the Folk Village.
If you only have one day, this tour is the one to choose! Be sure to wear your comfy shoes for walking. :) Gina was knowledgeable and organized which made everything run smoothly. There’s no way we could have fit so much in if we tried touring alone. Thank you for a great day!
